"Sister-in-law, wait!" Fei Haocheng reached out to pull her arm back, causing her to stop.
A perfectly-shaped eyebrow was raised at him. "What can I do for you, Vice President Fei?"
The formal way she addressed him initially caught him by surprise, but he recovered by clearing his throat. "That… let me carry your things." With a knowing smile, she handed over the laptop she was clutching and started to walk at the same pace as him. His face started to redden as he struggled to figure out how to talk to her. "I heard you married my brother yesterday... Uh, do you mind if I call you 'sister-in-law'?"
"You were already calling me that." Her lips thinned. Ying Yue suppressed the urge to roll her eyes at him.
"Well, yes," he scratched his head. Secretary Ying had always been polite and helpful to him. Who knew she had a sarcastic side to her as well? Was this how she really was? If so, no wonder she was a match for his brother. "You can call me Haocheng. Or brother Haocheng. We're about the same age, you know. Well, not really. I mean, I'm only a few years older than you."
He was blabbering. She could tell that much.
There was a sly look on her face as they both stepped into the elevator. "What do you want from me?"
"Want from you?" Fei Haocheng guffawed, slapping the elevator's glass walls as if what she said sounded unbelievable and incorrigible. He laughed for a good seven to eight seconds, before it died out from his lips. Ying Yue's expectant look hadn't changed all throughout his act, and he ended up coughing to hide the awkwardness he felt. "Well… maybe there is one thing I need your help with."
She cocked her head to the side intimidatingly.
"Sister-in-law… maybe you could ask brother Huang to go easier on me at work." And maybe let me date, too, he wanted to add.
She glanced at him with a smile. "Oh? I think you're doing perfectly well. I'm sure he's just giving you a little push."
"His push is more like bulldozing me onto a wall."
His words painted a picture in her head that made her laugh. Indeed, even she found Fei Huangjin quite the bulldozer, always finding ways to have his way.
The elevator ding-ed as it stopped at the top floor, and the two marched forward towards Fei Huangjin's office.
"I'm serious, sister-in-law! You see, it's like this: I just want some time off, or have a decent lunch break, to-- you know, go out and have lunch with people…"
"You mean go on a date?" She smirked.
He patted her shoulder excitedly. "Yes! Precisely!"
"Is your one- to two-hour lunch breaks not enough for a date?"
"Of course not! I don't do dates halfway. Romantic dates don't just fit within one to two hours! The drive to the beach or the mountains would already cost an hour in itself. It would take about two hours to talk about life and love while dining with a view, and then maybe stroll around for a bit afterwards and just make the most out of the moment. You're dating my brother -- I'm sure you know what I'm talking about."
Ying Yue bit her lip and just pretended to agree. Was that really how romantic dates went? Come to think of it, other than their first date, they didn't really go out that much, except for a few lunch dates, going out for groceries, and doing errands.
But then again, she and Fei Huangjin were busy people. They couldn't afford to skip out on work to 'go to the beach or the mountains.'
"All I'm saying is that whenever I have a date, brother Huang always finds a way to sabotage it, making me stay at the company or sending me out on a business trip. It's unfair. It's very unfair! At this rate, I'm never going to get married. Sister-in-law, you have to help me! Maybe you could talk to him about it. He would listen to you!"
They stopped at the edge of her desk, and Fei Haocheng leaned over to carefully place her laptop there. Amused, Ying Yue flashed him a small smile. "I'll see what I can do, okay?"
"Really? Oh, you're the best, sister-in-law! I knew you could help me!"
"Help with what?" The deep magnetic sound of Fei Huangjin's voice cut through the air, and the two turned to the man who was standing by his office door.
Almost instantly, Fei Haocheng leapt behind Ying Yue, holding on to her shoulders and using her body to shield himself just in case Fei Huangjin threw another knife at him again.
