"We're here." Xi Shenghui glanced at Ying Yue. He was surprised to get a call from her from out of the blue, and sensing that something was wrong, he arrived at her floor in the company in less than a minute where she asked him to drive her to Juyan. Unlike the previous times, however, she was quiet in the passenger seat, staring blankly at the sceneries they passed. She didn't seem to hear him, or even realize they had arrived, so he cleared his throat loud enough to shake her from her thoughts. "Shadow fox."
"Hmm?" She blinked.
"I said we're here."
"Oh." She unbuckled herself and seemed to be in a trance as she got out of his car.
Xi Shenghui stayed four steps behind her, following her quietly to Big Boss' office. There was a frown creasing his forehead as he observed the robotic way she walked -- from the fisted hands to the rigid lines of her shoulders.
When they got to the office, Big Boss and Mo Yiling were already there, looking at her expectantly. They all knew she would never call for a meeting if it wasn't important.
Silence filled the room for a large amount of time, and it was Mo Yiling who broke the ice first. "Sooo… why are we here?" Big Boss flashed him an exasperated look, making him feel wronged. "What?" He was only trying to get things going.
As always, Xi Shenghui didn't say a word.
"Today…" Ying Yue started, "I met a man who looks exactly like Ying Shen."
There was a short pause, as if the whole room froze. And then Mo Yiling whistled. Xi Shenghui frowned. Big Boss raised an eyebrow with a look of disbelief painted all over his face. "That's impossible. Maybe they just look similar."
"I know what my brother looks like." She declared, her voice firm and her eyes fierce and unyielding.
Big Boss and Mo Yiling looked at each other.
"His face, his… height, even his voice sounds familiar." Ying Yue looked at them with a pained look. "I wouldn't mistake Ying Shen over anyone else."
Big Boss scratched his head. Without a visual of the guy she was pertaining to, he wouldn't believe it himself. "Does Fei Huangjin know?"
She shook her head. "He's out of the country right now."
Mo Yiling pulled out a tablet, turned it on, and started swiping and typing on the screen. "Name. Give me the name."
"Song Yinan," she answered.
"Song Yinan…" he echoed. Like the genius he was, Mo Yiling only took a few minutes to pull up a few articles and records on the man, including his photo. Song Yinan's features filled his tablet screen, looking crisp in a suit and tie, and he turned it around to let the rest of the people in the room see.
Ying Yue looked away while Big Boss' mouth gaped, his eyes wide as he gazed at the man who looked exactly like the one he used to know. He glanced at Ying Yue briefly and turned back to Mo Yiling with confusion.
Xi Shenghui had never seen Ying Shen before, and was just silent and impassive in the corner.
Mo Yiling returned to work on his tablet. "Song Yinan -- the naturalized heir to the Song family of B city. Registered age: 30. Registered birthdate: December 20, 1989."
"Naturalized heir?" Big Boss stilled.
"What does that mean?" Ying Yue's lips parted. She had a small idea of what it meant, but she wasn't sure.
He glanced at her with his jaw clenched. "It means he isn't the biological heir, but they've legally recognized him as the heir to the Song family."
"The current head of the Song family is the only surviving heir, and he and his wife have no sons or daughters. For families like this, they usually find a capable man they trust to take over their business and their estate." Mo Yiling continued, "It's also stated here that his entire childhood and education is unknown. Other than working for the Song family in their agricultural business, and now at Changsu, I can't find anything else on him beyond about six years ago."
"It can't be..." she whispered.
Song Yinan. Ying Shen. Song Yinan. Ying Shen. Which one was which, really?
