"Hey! Hey!!!" The man made a sorry scene as he was being dragged out of the party, and the murmurs around them grew even heavier. People began talking about how pitiful the young madame of the Fei family was right now, and how Fei Huangjin seemed like a knight in shining armor protecting his own princess.
The men who were planning to approach Ying Yue stopped in their tracks and turned around, pretending as if they had no such plans, and the young women around them began to blush in excitement at the thought of having Fei Huangjin wrapped around their own little finger.
Ying Yue, on the other hand, kept acting like a victim, clutching at Fei Huangjin's chest, and burying her amused smile on the lapels of his tuxedo. Breathe in and out, Ying Yue. Don't laugh! She bit her lip in an effort to control herself. Her shoulders shook as she began to laugh silently, but everyone who saw her fragile state thought she was breaking down into tears.
"Darling…" Fei Huangjin's deep voice cut into her thoughts like a blade, and she felt her emotions start to calm.
"Yes?" She sniffled.
He pulled back to try and get a small look at her teary, amorous eyes. "You can stop acting now."
She froze. "You knew?"
"Honey, I've seen you naked and I've seen you fully clothed." He whispered. "Don't you think I'd know when you're faking it?"
Her earlier amusement became replaced by embarrassment and her cheeks now flushed red. "Huangjin!" How does seeing someone naked even relate to telling little white lies?
"I hope you won't feel guilty reading about a well-known man waking up in the dumpster tomorrow morning."
Her lips twisted.
He chuckled, putting his arms around her and leading her to a corner of the room. His hand was warm on her waist, making her blush even more. "Why is it that each time we attend a party, something always happens?"
"I'd like to know the reason myself, hubby." She jutted her chin up, as if she had no hand in whatever had happened earlier.
They stopped at an empty table and he whirled to look at her deeply. "Stay here," he smirked. "Since you're supposed to be playing victim, rest a bit over here while I finish up my business. Don't get into trouble, and don't talk to the other men. In fact, don't even bother looking at any man other than myself. I wouldn't want to have to throw out each and everyone who so much as blinks at you."
A sly smile appeared on Ying Yue's face and she winked at Fei Huangjin, "I wouldn't mind that."
A corner of his lips pulled up before a sigh escaped his lips. "Vixen… please behave." He said before walking away. The moment he stepped into the throng of people at the hall, his new secretary, Shuyi, immediately intercepted him, and then men and women started gathering around him, hoping to get a word in and earn his favor.
Ha! You guys should be earning favor from me, since I'm the only one who could ever make a puppet out of that nasty man – not that I'd ever make him a puppet. She craned her neck to find Fei Huangjin, who was getting buried among the number of people heading his way. He looked like he was being mobbed. Needless to say, she found it funny how his face remained composed despite the annoyance he must be feeling right now.
She picked up a flute of champagne from a passing waiter and sipped on it. But then at the corner of her eye, through the glass of her drink, she spotted a familiar figure she didn't think she'd see. She choked on the beige fluid, almost dropping the flute onto the carpeted floor. One moment she felt like she was looking at Song Yinan's side profile, and the next second he wasn't there.
She stood on tiptoe and spotted a man leaving the hall. Her eyes couldn't be playing tricks on her, right?
Deciding on putting fate into her hands, she picked up her dress and went into the direction she thought he must have gone.
