Song Yinan stepped out of the shadows, watching Ying Yue's retreating back from afar. She looked extremely beautiful today – all dolled-up with every strand of her hair in place. It was a far cry from the dirty, sweaty woman who saved him, pulling him out of the building that horrid day, making him feel like he was important to her, before leaving him there and forgetting about his existence.
It was ironic – especially after she'd wailed about finally finding her brother after so many years. What a joke.
His face contorted into one of pain. He watched her earlier with Fei Huangjin, and it made him furious to see how happy she was with her life – carefree and unbothered by her brother's disappearance. He'd witnessed, too, how she played around with the life of that man who tried to flirt with her. She was simply a wildcat who liked to use people as she deemed fit, and when there was no advantage to keeping them around, she'd drop them like a useless toy.
Su Jianjun had asked him to attend today's event to try and see if there was hope of "reconciling" with his so-called sister. He obliged because he knew Jianjun had his best interests at heart. But seeing Ying Yue today… it only steeled his resolve to inflict as much pain as he could to her, so she'd know how it felt to live like an idiot thrown away by his family.
He exited the garden through the hidden back gate.

Fei Huangjin's eyebrow twitched as he saw Ying Yue coming back to the event hall, her hair a bit windswept, and her cheeks and nose tinged with red from the cold. "Excuse me," he murmured to the man he was talking with, and he made his way across the room to meet her. When they met midway, he was startled to feel Ying Yue's arms snake around him. He could feel the disappointment radiating off her, and so he wrapped an arm around her, the other stroking her hair gently, as he moved to kiss her head. "Are you alright?"
She pulled away from him. And her face shifted as she smiled and nodded to a few other guests who had stared at them. "I thought I saw Yinan."
His hands stilled, and then his eyes darted to Guan Ting who was standing hidden in the corner of the room. The man shook his head. "And here I thought I told you to stay where you were."
"I'm not a trained dog who follows all your orders," she muttered under her breath.
This brought a smile to his face. "Indeed, you are not. You're more like a wildcat. A vixen – that's what you are." He murmured. Fei Huangjin bent over to plant another kiss on her forehead, and Ying Yue leaned in instinctively to feel his warmth.
"And you're an annoying bulldozer." She saw his eyes narrow slightly at her remark and she quickly added, "An annoying but sweet bulldozer -- who's only looking out for my safety."
His lips thinned, and he felt like shaking his head at the woman's sad attempt to twist her words into something that would sound like a compliment. "Yes, because my wife seems to be a magnet for trouble."
She grimaced. "It's not my fault trouble gets attracted to me."
"Mmm. Yes, you're a very attractive woman, even more so in that red dress." He tsked. The slit that came up all the way to the middle of her thigh was more dangerous to look at than he had initially thought. "I should've saved that dress for my own eyes and made you wear the curtains."
"Curtains would only look sexy on me."
Fei Huangjin's mouth opened and closed. Only this woman could be brazen enough to say that. He was speechless, not because it was ridiculous, but because it was true. She could wear curtains and make him salivate just looking at her. He growled reflexively, and with an air of possessiveness, he ended up drawing her closer to him, making sure no other man was going to approach her tonight.
"People are staring," she whispered.
"Let them." His hold on her tightened even more.
