The briefing

The room became completely still, and everyone else was furtively staring at them. Xi Shenghui seemed surprised at her outburst and uneasily put a palm on his face as he shook his head at her. "Ying Yue—"

"Why would you do something like that?" She asked pointedly.

The rest of the staff in the room now looked at Xi Shenghui at a different kind of light. The man they respected and feared was apparently an asshole to his girlfriend, whoever she may be. It was a good thing the new director confronted him about it, they thought.

Xi Shenghui glanced at the people looking at him to find them turning their heads away when he did, and he couldn't help but sigh at what these men must be thinking. He wasn't even able to defend himself with Ying Yue's continuous ranting. "Shadow fox, what are you talking about?" He sighed and tugged at her elbow gently.

This seemed to draw her back to reality. "Oh. Shenghui…"

Realizing that she must be on her right mind now, he decided once and for all to put the matter at rest before the rest of the staff start gossiping about his apparently sad and uncompromising love life. "Just so you know, shadow fox: I'm not in any relationship, and I have no plans to settle down."

The people in the room erupted into low murmurs.

"Why is Mr. Xi denying his girlfriend?"

"Sshh. He doesn't even have any plans to marry her—"

"No wonder…"

Xi Shenghui sighed again. It seemed like he did more damage than good by saying something. He glared at Ying Yue with annoyance and gestured for her to sit down. "We'll be briefing soon. Didn't you say you were going to go with someone from the Jade Circle?"

She nodded and glanced at her watch. Where was Guan Ting anyway? He should've known better than to expect that man to be on time. "Let's begin. I'll fill him in on the details later." Wherever he was, she'd take out her frustration on the man later. He was his idiot master's right hand man, after all, and birds of a feather flocked together.

He nodded, and then took his place in front of the room. "Good morning, everyone. Today we'll be having a briefing on—"

The door opened and it was like a cold gust of wind blew in from who-knows-where. Ying Yue turned to the door, expecting to see Guan Ting entering the room, but instead, Fei Huangjin walked in like he owned the place, removing his gloves as he did. Spotting her, he smiled and walked over to her.

She stood up with a frown. "What are you—"

He planted a kiss on her head and sat down at the empty seat beside her – the one that was meant for Guan Ting. He eyed the man at the front of the room. "Proceed."

Xi Shenghui's eyebrows knitted together and he glanced at Ying Yue, waiting for her instructions. He was the Vice Director of Juyan – not the Dragon Club, which meant that he would only take orders from Ying Yue and not her husband.

However, it seemed even Ying Yue was confused at what was happening.

She held up a hand to Shenghui, indicating that he should pause the briefing for now. And she sat down, leaning close to Fei Huangjin so she could talk to him in whispers. "What are you doing here?" She asked coldly. "Don't disrupt my work, Huangjin. This briefing is very important. And where's Guan Ting? He'd confirmed with me this morning, so why isn't he here yet?"

Ying Yue was leaning really close to him that Fei Huangjin could smell the unique scent of lemons and sunshine that was radiating off her from where he sat, and the subtle fragrance of her perfume that she must have put on this morning. It made him pleased, and his rod down there started to grow hard by just the thought of nibbling against her neck where the scent was strong…

"Huangjin!" She snapped.

"Hmm?"

"I asked you why you're here. And where is Guan Ting? He's not picking up." She frowned.

His lips twisted before slowly getting pulled back at the corners into a small smile. "Didn't I tell you?"

Her frown burrowed even deeper. "Tell me what?"

"I'm the one coming with you. Not Guan Ting."
