Anywhere but the head

Ying Yue felt her head spin. There were loud voices around her that she could hardly discern at that moment, and for some reason, she couldn't lift her left arm properly. She staggered sideways, and then she felt hot liquid drip down her arm.

She was shot, and she was bleeding.

There were nagging voices around her, making her blink repeatedly, and slowly, her mind adjusted to the present.

"F*ck you!!!" Fei Huangjin bellowed. He struggled to get up, and caught Ying Yue with his good arm as she staggered again. She'd never been shot before. So this was how it felt like. She was slowly brought to the ground with Fei Huangjin beside her.

Song Yinan put his gun down and looked away.

Su Jianjun's laughter filled the room, and he looked like a crazed lunatic getting excited for all the wrong reasons. "That was amazing! Well done, Yinan!" And then, with a large grin, he fixed his gaze at Fei Huangjin. "So how does it feel to be useless, brother? Does it feel good to just sit there watching your wife get shot?"

Fei Huangjin clenched his teeth. A vein popped out from his forehead. Right now, he was trapped here with a measly chance of escape. He had to buy some time and make sure not to aggravate Su Jianjun, even if what he really wanted to do was spit on the man's face and bash his head on the wall. Huangjin looked away from him and focused instead on Ying Yue's disoriented look. He surveyed her from head to toe, just to check if she had anything else injured. His eyes briefly stopped at the black military boots she was wearing, and the inconspicuous handle of a knife hidden there.

Ying Yue slowly turned her head towards him and their eyes met. There were numerous emotions in her eyes -- pain, love, anger, hopelessness...

Seeing as they were looking all sweet and warm together, Su Jianjun wanted to play the game differently again. Instead of killing the girl in front of Fei Huangjin, why doesn't he just shoot them alternately until both of them die? Isn't that sweet? Very much like Romeo and Juliet, yes? He pulled out his own gun and aimed it at Fei Huangjin's leg. "Say, brother, it's time to put another bullet in you before we put another bullet on Miss Ying," he grinned. "Where do you want me to shoot you? The leg? The stomach? Anywhere but the head, brother. I wouldn't want you to die so soon."

Fei Huangjin pursed his lips and balled his fist. Trying to control his temper was such a pain in the ass. "Anywhere."

"Ooooh." Su Jianjun was impressed with his braveness and stupidity. "Shall I just shoot you between the legs? That counts for anywhere, am I right?"

The famed invincible young master of the Fei family didn't even dare to answer. How amusing. It was a shame he didn't get someone to record this event.

"Well, since it's up to me, why don't I shoot your other shoulder, too? Wouldn't it be nice to not be able to lift a finger to save your pitiful wife? He cocked his gun and pointed it at Fei Huangjin's good shoulder. "Here goes nothing, brother."

BANG!

Fei Huangjin braced himself for the impact, but instead of feeling the sharp sting of a bullet, he felt a huge weight land on him instead, forcing him backwards to the wall.

CRASH!

The scent of lemons and sunshine assaulted his senses, and it took him half a second later to realize that Ying Yue was lying on top of him, groaning. Her hair was a mess and he could feel her ragged breaths against his bare chest. "Yue?" He felt warm blood seep through his pants, and he moved away from her slightly. He could see her moving her hand to her right lower abdomen, and her hand immediately became soaked in blood. "Ying Yue, no," he whispered in disbelief.

When she was finally able to grasp what Su Jianjun was talking about earlier, she didn't have time to think and jumped over Fei Huangjin to protect him. One of them had to stay alive. And the best candidate for that was Fei Huangjin. Even with a shot to the shoulder, he was still capable of fighting his way out. She'd rather let him live than let both of them die. "I'm sorry," she whispered.

She could already feel herself become lightheaded again.
