The pretty lady

I'm getting closer to the sound. When you hear it more clearly, it doesn't sound angry. Just frustrated. They probably can't open their locker. No worries.

I'm at the corner. Once I turn this corner, I will get to see them. I will meet someone and help them, maybe be friends. I hope so.

I turn that corner. I see them. I turn back, flustered. How? How could there be someone so cute and innocent, yet their vibe sends fiery determination imbeaded into my soul. Her black hair, pale skin, slim body. Despite the fact we have school uniforms, she rocks that skirt like no tomorrow.

I'm not the type to really be social, but I want to give my new life a try. So I turn the corner. She's still there and she looks at me. I'm walking to her, but my stomach is turning in knots, I feel those butterflies.

"H-hey there. I'm Grace, you need help?" I say, mostly calm, but a little shaky.

"Hi! You must be the new student! I'm Laureen. Word gets around fast here, so don't be surprised if people know your name." her soft, gentle, smooth, and kind voice glides across the air. This it hits me.

"Wait, did you say word gets around here fast? Like rumors?" My hand are sweating, I'm getting too nervous.

"Not all are rumors. In fact, only the juicy rumors get around. New people are actually pretty rare here, it's so fun to meet them!" Her voice is so cheery and positive. I start to calm down.

"Oh, you had me a bit nervous," I say, joking and laughing it off. "Well, it's nice to meet you. You having trouble with your locker? I can help."

How much do I have to lie? I possess the unusual power to fail at stuff when I try to impress people. I'm really bad at this. I'm a nervous trainwreck. I haven't even opened my own locker.

"I would love that, thank you so much!" her words calm me a little, but I'm still nervous. "The combination is 07-23-05."

"Ok, this bad boy ought to be open in a jiffy!" lies.

Here it goes. The attempt. First number is seven, so I want to turn it to the right three times...

"Oh my god, you opened it! And you did it with such ease. Good job."

I did it. Something worked out in my favor. Wait, is this a trick? Well whatever, she's so happy.
