As soon as Anesu disappeared into the city's traffic Munashe hurried to his two companions and retrieved the explosives that were set on their chairs. Mr Reed had his phone in his hand and his fingers raced across the screen as he texted someone.
"Done." he said as he closed and pocketed his device.
"What is done?" Tapiwa asked as he reached behind the counter for his gear.
"I have sent someone after Anesu. And another to look for Panashe at the college."
"Wait why Panashe?"
"Because those were his memories and he is the only one who can access them."
"Hold in a minute. Munashe you actually handed the stones to Anesu?" Tapiwa looked confused.
"Yes. It's the only option he offered." Munashe replied.
"Ah crap. I thought you had done a switch on the actual stones." Tapiwa sounded disappointed.
"Nope kid. Munashe decision was the only one. House Humba is now under the leadership of a murderer and if he had suspected the stones to be fake, we wouldn't be having this conversation." Mr Reed butted in as he took a sit.
The atmosphere in the diner was already grim when the door slid open and Panashe walked in looking dirty and carrying a sack of potatoes. The occupants of the diner were mortified. Their eyes darted from each other before going back on Panashe.
"Sorry about the dirt." Panashe said as he felt uncomfortable by the stares from the group.
"Shouldn't you be at school kid." Mr Reed asked.
"Well I should be but I had no food at home so I picked a job as a delivery boy. So may a Ruvarashe Sero please sign for this." Panashe said as he withdrew a phone from his pocket and opened it. Ruvarashe felt morose as she placed her finger on the phone and couldn't look Panashe in the eyes.
"Thank you for the business." Panashe placed the phone back into the pocket and headed out of the diner leaving the small group with shocked faces.
'I feel like I should know those guys. Maybe it's because this diner is close to the school.' Panashe said to himself as he waddled towards a lorry that had a banner of a potato.
"Job's done boss. Where to next?" Panashe asked as he jumped into the back.
"Back to the market kid."
Munashe couldn't shake the guilt from his mind as his fingers tapped on the table top. Tapiwa was the most conflicted because he saw Panashe lose his memories and even helped carry the young man to his home. Mr Reed seemed indifferent as he played around with his phone. He saw Ruvarashe's head rested on the counter and her face as bleak as it would go.
"We have to bring him back to us." Tapiwa spoke out.
"If my men can keep up with Anesu we should be able to intercept him before he wakes up Panashe. And we should do away with those stones so that the sellout won't be among us." Mr Reed was quite frank in his answer without even lifting his face.
Tapiwa didn't agree with this decision but Munashe stopped him from speaking out. Fury raged within Tapiwa but he couldn't argue with the point of Panashe being a sellout.
"You know I am right kid. The digital witches and house Humba are enemies to the council and the council sees everything. We don't know why he would do that." Mr Reed felt it necessary to speak.
"But we do know. It's all about that Jess person. Right now no one has the correct answers but if my mother was kidnapped I would...." Munashe stopped Tapiwa from speaking and added his own two cents.
"I think it's best if we let the council decide but as for now the stones will kept safe." his voice was cracking with rage but he knew how powerless he was against house Humba. Tapiwa smiled but Mr Reed remained indifferent as if he already knew what the council would decide.
Anesu raced through the city on his motorbike trying to shake the men who were tailing him. He was getting frustrated before he drove to the college. He walked around searching for Panashe using a reference photo but the feeling of being followed made him scream out occasionally and drawing the attention of the students who thought he was a mad man. After several minutes of walking up and down he bumped into Allen.
Allen recognised the face being used as reference and Anesu that Panashe didn't come to school on that day. Anesu left the school after Allen had given him an address but the men tailing him couldn't even let him be. Anesu decided to let them be and he went for a walk without his bike. He led the tails into the alley before waiting for them to show up. They never came to the alley because they had seen through his little scheme.
'I hate cat and mouse games.' Allen kept to himself as he waited for traffic to increase. He walked around the city window shopping. When the sun was about to disappear into the horizon Anesu raced back to his bike and used the traffic as a means to evade his tails but he never managed to do so. This had become a game of professionals and Anesu was running out of time so he decided to drive straight to where Panashe lived.
Panashe was in the kitchen boiling potatoes when the sound of a speeding motorbike made him look out the window. He saw the motorbike approach the flat and the rider jumped off and ran into the flat. He just shrugged his shoulders and went to back to his pot. He went through the supplies that were on his table before he heard the door slid open. He grabbed a pan and went straight to the living room.
"Ah good you are here. We have to this quickly." Anesu was glad when he Panashe. His hands went straight into his pockets to get the necklace before Panashe pointed the pan at him.
"Stop right there pal. What do you want from me?"
"Listen to me....."
"Stop right there Anesu or I will kill the kid." a man emerged from the kitchen and on his right arm was a gear that produced flame.
"Why do you want to kill me?" Panashe got confused at who to point the pan at.
There was a brief moment of silence before Anesu raised his arms in the air. What looked like surrender was just a scam to get everyone to avert their eyes towards his arms before winking at Panashe who swung the pan towards the man holding his gear up and giving Anesu a chance to close the gap and land a few punches before throwing the man down on his back. The man fell unconscious as his head banged against the flow.
"Now care to explain to me why I just helped you?" Panashe asked as he pointed the pan at Anesu.
"Here place necklace on your forehead." Anesu threw the necklace to Panashe.
Panashe investigated the necklace for a minute before pressing it against his forehead. He felt the world spinning around as he fell like a log to the floor. Anesu head the thud and he smiled. He kept his eyes on the attacker before he went to pick up the necklace and Panashe and walked out of the room. He was amazed at how light Panashe was threw him on the motorbike.
