The news reached Nhamo and Mr Fear late that night of the horrors that had happened to the city. Civilians had been injured and some went missing. The UAEC prisoner has managed to slip away amid all the chaos and the digital witches announced their existence to the world which had just witnessed the truth that lurked in the shadows.
"See what I told you Nhamo. Everything fixes itself." Mr Fear felt proud of himself as he inspected the torus that occupied the whole warehouse. Underneath the torus a tube stuck out of the ground pointing towards the starry night. As Mr Fear inspected his creation one of his mental prisoners came to him holding a tablet that was showing graphs which spiked at the near end and dropped suddenly down to zero.
"What is it?" Mr Fear asked as he looked at the graphs.
"The machine will require a continuous supply of over four thousand volts to transport anything for such a distance that was requested. The light years of your planet from ours is too great of a distance that even if we manage to get such a voltage we can only keep it up for ten minutes at most." the man explained as pointed at the graphs.
"Ten minutes will be enough for this plan to succeed. Nhamo call all of your man. It's time I rewarded them." Mr Fear order and went to one of the observation rooms in the warehouse and came back with a Dzimba Dzemabwe containment canister.
"Gentlemen in here is a rare anomaly. It mimics what it eats and produce tenfold the amount given to it by altering molecular structures. Behold!"
Mr Fear dropped a small stone into the canister and the small snake like creature ate the stone. After several minutes of observation the creatures scales started shaking and it vomited seven stones which looked like the original stone.
"Now all you need is one gold brick and you will be set for life." Mr Fear managed to satisfy the greed of the lustrous men. He handed over the canister to Nhamo who passed it on to his men before dragging Mr Fear aside.
"I want the user manual to the machine."
"You will have it Nhamo. Trust me. After you and your men help me with one last job. I need you to reroute the power going to all the labs across the city to the transformers we have. I will go and claim my price from the military."
"That's bullshit man. We did everything and now...."
"Nhamo. I can kill all of you right now or better yet I can manipulate all of you into doing this but if you don't want it's okay."
"Fine. Come on you dogs let's hurry up before the power company restores electricity to city." Nhamo ordered his man and they left the warehouse.
Panashe was treating Mellisa's bruises in his apartment when Humba walked in. His face smeared with joy and his right hand a spear. He observed the two young people before placing the spear on the table.
"There you go Panashe. A payment for the job you did." Humba said and turned around to leave but Panashe stopped him.
"Why did you release an anomaly in the city? What do you really hope to achieve by harming others?" Panashe asked picking up the spear.
"A few years ago I thought I was led by morally upright men but it was a lie. They enjoyed the fruits of our labour whilst our friends died in the field. I really wish you were there five years ago Panashe. Maybe the foundation would have taken a better path but wishes are for the weak. The strong work for the results they want and hope everything goes right."
"What really happened five years ago? Everyone seems to be avoiding telling the whole story."
"It was me who ignited the train station using an anomaly. I am the reason why there are several orphan and disabled people in the city. The reason why I wanted you to save her was because I thought it would relieve me from the guilt of killing her parents but it doesn't. I told everyone it was Munashe's fault because he had disappeared but I guess the truth is always revealed every once in a while."
"But why let the anomalies...."
"For the people who drove me down this path to see what is coming for them. The council will fall by my hand. Tomorrow morning go to the diner with that spear and show it to Munashe. Tell him it was Mr Reeds." Humba didn't wait to be asked anymore questions and disappeared into the corridor.
Hooking up illegal connections to the grid was easy for Nhamo and his men since the city hadn't restored power yet and this happened to be the easiest job they had been given by the anomaly. They finished it smoothly and went back to the warehouse only to find it empty. The eerie silence made Nhamo weak in the knees as his eyes darted from one corner of the yard to the other.
"That lying, manipulating piece of shit." Nhamo cursed as he power walked into the warehouse. The machine laid there quietly and a small holographic screen popped up in the air. It was an alarm that had a message left for him.
'When you see a large army airship tomorrow hit the lever in the observation room. The manual will be handed to you by one of the prisoners who will show up. P.S. we will come when power is restored so please stay ready.'
Nhamo wasn't convinced by the message as he started pacing about the warehouse. His hands gripped the metallic rod and he realized there was never going to be a good life for him. His goons weren't that famous and could easily slip back into society without raising an alarm but his life had a large stain that could never be removed.
"What have I done?" he asked himself and saw his men pack their stuff into the several vans that were parked around.
"What are you doing?" he asked.
"We are done Nhamo. We got our pay which indicates the end...."
Nhamo threw his rod which smashed into the man's face knocking him out before he could finish his sentence.
"The job ain't done yet. It will be done when that creature leaves earth and we can all say it mind controlled us." Nhamo barked at his men and retreated further into the warehouse.
Several buildings away Ron witnessed everything through a pair of binoculars.
"I finally found it Mr Reed. Boss man. Yo you there?" he spoke into his VCB clicking on the contact.
"He must be in public. I guess I will go tell Munashe straight away."
Ron navigated his way from the roof to the ground and started his journey towards the city.
