The Hobgoblin comes lumbering and chops hi. axe down at me vertically.
I manage to stumble to the side right before it slams into my helmet.
The hobgoblin uses his left hand to punch me, wich fortunately lands on the metal plate on the leather armor and makes his knucles red, he screams out in pain but only for a second as he chops again, this time the strike is coming from my left.
I step back and create distance before hitting his weapon with the tip of my spear just like Felt instructed me.
The hobgoblin goes for a punch again, little did I know he was aiming for my unarmored legs, his punch impacts my leg bone.
I feel it crunch and tears form at my eyes as I scream out in agony.
The Hobgoblin cackles at my pain and punches me again, in the same spot.
Now barely standing I am pointing the spear sluggishly at him.
He comes running at me screaming wildly and foaming from his mouth.
He shrieks half way through and falls over rolling on the ground.
The sword I had dropped shanked him right in his left foot.
He quickly stands back up and chases after me , I decided on running and I made it almost back to the ladder before he caught up to me, also limping intensely.
By now many villagers gathered at the wall and are looking at me fighting, none are able to help me as they are all young children or elderly and would just get themselves killed, they could only hope I can win.
The town mage is nowhere to be seen and would only involve himself if his towers door was kicked down by the hobgoblin
A young girl clutching a teddy bear stares down at me crying as I clutch my exposed bone.
"Bubba, you can win bubba!"
The other elderly look in determination and begin shouting aswell.
"LUCAS, LUCAS, LUCAS, WIN WIN WIN!"
I must win, the villagers will all surely die before Felt returns, If Felt returns and finds his daughter dead he would surely not he able to live a good life anymore.
Sure, I hate Felt but he is this towns only chance against monsters and has saved me many times, and now I must return the favor by WINNING.
The hobgoblin sneers at the villagers.
"Stupid hoomans, I will kill you all and love your children, gragahaha!"
The hobgoblin laughs wildy as it is evident that he can kill me and take this whole village and all its loot.
The hobgoblin runs at me once more, but I have hatched a plan this time.
I break the butt of my spear off creating a marred spiky wood surface, I stab it into the gate having the spear pointing towards the oncoming monster.
I stand infront of it hiding it temporarily.
"COME GET ME YOU UGLY LEECHEAD"
The villagers start losing hope as they look at what im doing, not quite understanding me.
My father taught me a primitive way of trapping rabbits by placing a enchanted carrot on a spear when they ran to it or chomped on it the enchantment activated, the spear magically extends and kills the rabbit.
It is the same principle here, except there is no magic and instead of a rabbit it is a dangerous monster on the same level of a trained bandit.
He comes closer to me but I hold steady
then in the last second, I can almost feel the monsters breath on me as he aproaches.
This, is the way of the hunt, this is the way of nature.
Hunt, trap, kill.
And now this monster, has fallen right for my illusion!
I side step and extend my arm out like a bird, still hiding the spear from the raging rabbit.
The hobgobling sees my outstretched arm and takes it as a joke and runs forth to strike it.
I slam my arm back impaling it and when the hobgoblin is about to reach my limb his eyes go wide as a bloody spear crunches into his rib cage.
This, is the elf way, no this is my way, the half elf way.
Hunt through Attrition is what my father told me, I say
Hunt though sacrifice!
And this is the sacrifice!
I kick a lever bringing the ladder down.
It breaks the spear off my arm leaving a sharp wooden pole lodged in my arm.
The hobgoblin now nearly dead attempts to crawl away from me.
I thought killing monsters would be difficult or scary, but now killing one up close, I dont think I will piss my pants like that ever again.
I unbuckle my leather trousers revealing my casual pants underneath.
I take the pissfilled leather and hold the hobgoblin down.
This is what you get for making me piss myself you fucking freak, I swear I will never be scared of your kind again, I knew better than to be scared in the first place, it was father 3rd rule: Only fear a foe that can strike you down.
And clearly you could not strike me down.
fucking miserable beast.
Take this.
I rub the urine leather on his face making him scream out.
I kick his wounded foot before ripping the stake out of my hand with a scream of pain.
Now breathing heavily and barely able to stand with my snapped leg, only continuing because of the villagers cheering for me, I stab the stake in the monsters head killing him.
A light-barely visible energy leaves his body and enters mine, I feel strength fill me, but not enough to stop me from falling over in exhaustion and I cant stop myself from crying from all the pain I feel in my leg.
Many villagers rush down the ladder.
The youngest farmers, who are all in their late 50s and a young girl, about 14 who is the little girl with the dolls older sister.
When the villagers reach me they begin to pick me up only to scream in horror as 2 more hobgoblins come rushing out of the woods.
"First that gnoll, then those draugrs and now Thom is felled by a town guard?"
The 2 male hobgoblins look at me furiously.
It seems I couldn't save the villagers after all.
They rush forward.
The villagers who came to pick me up kneel in despair, the young lass picks up the dead monsters axe and holds it trembling.
The 2 beasts laugh at her and make some comments about using her and eating the others, they march forward licking their lips.
I cant seem to stay conscious, I wont be waking will I?
