Jason looked around as the wagon road through the path his gaze was heightened and he vigilantly looked around while keeping a careful eye on his surroundings.
They had just returned from fishing, and the kids were all happy and satisfied and Perseus was grinning while looking over the large additions of fish to his inventory.
Meanwhile the entire time Jason couldn't enjoy the time fishing, he had this unsettling feeling after Boops mentioned the flag sure it was a bit stupid but Jason's cautiousness was screaming and he wasn't one to ignore it. The sun half dipped into the mountains as light retreated from the surroundings. Darkness settled in and only with the light of the lantern and the faint rays of red light could Perseus continue to drive the wagon.
In the bushes and in the trees on the side of the road, numerous presences were watching them with alert and sinister eyes.
At the signal from one of the men hiding in the trees, all of the hidden presences swiftly spread out surrounding a certain spot on the road where the wagon would reach.
The hidden people sat in the bushes quietly waiting, as in the distance a single wagon slowly drove closer and closer to them.
The leader of these people in wait. He gripped his fist as he stood on a nearby tree shrowded in the shadows.
Checking on the bandit camp and seeing that it had been wiped out had been a shock to him. But what scared him the most was that there was the possibility of information about his master getting out.
The leader of these bandits unsheathed his sharp dagger. He was going to make sure nobody would even remotely know about his master's intentions.
This "guild" the silver wings. He had done his research after he had seen them exit the forest right after wiping out the bandit camp. He had brought the young bandits and made them into guild members.
A murderous intent spread through the leader's aura. He should have killed those kids when he got the chance.
One of the bandit leaders' subordinates appeared next to him and whispered to him. The bandit leader listened and nodded, the both of them jumped off of the tree silently and they prepared to catch their "prey"
Jason smilled and looked at Perseus. Perseus made eye contact with Jason and responded with a knowing grin of his own. Perseus then looked back at the guild members who had stopped chatting once they noticed that Jason and Perseus had fallen silent.
Perseus's smile disappeared and leaned over to the part of the wagon where the guild members were sitting and placed a dagger on the wagon's floor.
The guild members all stopped what they were doing. Their eyes hardened and they placed their hands on the weapons that they were entrusted with.
The entire wagon descended into silence as they countied forward.
The sound of a bow being drawn was heard from the side of the wagon deep in the forest.
A flaming arrow streaked towards the party and the wagon in an almost brilliant flash of red light. Jason appeared in the trajectory of the arrow and struck at it with his sword.
The arrow deflected off of Jason's sword and spun until it landed on the dirt fizzing as it was put out.
The defensive 3rd form Jason thought as he used the guild wagon as a marker as became a wall between the incoming arrows and the wagon.
Jason didn't know it, but his agility was at a scary level. He cocked his head letting a flaming arrow fly into the dirt behind him.
He gripped his sword and engaged the swarm of 30 arrows that flew towards him at a quick pace.
He made huge sweeps that cleared out large portions and then blocked the rest normally with his sword. The first wave of arrows clattered to the ground and Jason stared at where the arrows had come from.
There seemed to be a sudden lull in the area as silence descended on it.
But a low snarl sounded that broke it.
"give me his head," it said, and in response, a group of 20 bandits broke out of the bushes with a loud yell and charged straight towards Jason.
They charged out of the bushes and got increasingly closer to Jason who was standing between them and the wagon.
Jason grinned and readied his sword. He closed his eyes and focused mana into his sword giving it a glowing blue light.
But before he could do so. A dagger pierced the bandit who was just emerging from the forest. That bandit looked at the dagger that pierced through his chest and collapsed. Jack stood behind the bandit he gave Jason a small nod and disappeared into the forest.
Jason looked back at the guild wagon to see no sign of any of the guild members in it.
He wondered out loud
"when did they..."
Another group of bandits tried to sneak up on the other side of the wagon. They intended to surround and kill Jason while sealing off any escape paths.
They slowly got closer and closer through the undergrowth until in front of them they could see the wagon. With a single lantern hanging above it. They couldn't hear anyone on it, which was expected since they were probably hiding in the storage part of it.
But there should be somebody in the passenger or drivers seat, right?
In response to that, a sword struck out making one of the bandits drop to the floor. The rest of the bandits looked at the assailant to see a golden-haired boy looking at them with a murderous grin. He held his sword with one hand and kept on moving it with his wrist as if he was warming up for fencing.
Perseus drew his arm to his left side and leaned down in a running position with his head still up.
He gave one large push and in a matter of seconds, he was upon the group of surprised bandits.
Another bandit fell to Perseus's swing and the bandits all quickly retreated. Scared and worried about the dangerous swordsman that had appeared.
Perseus stood over the dead body of the bandit and looked at the rest with an emotionless face.
In the meant time Jason was running through the groups of bandits that were nervously holding up their swords as he passed through their ranks like a gust of wind. Every time he spotted an opening he leap towards it and stabbed as hard as he could.
Taking a trick he hadn't used in a while he pulled out a metal skewer and with both his sword and skewer in hand he swung at each of the bandits as they attempted to land hits on him.
Every time a bandit would swing their ax at him, or try and stab him with their swords. Boops would give a soft warning even if it was behind Jason. And Jason would always have enough time to react sometimes elbowing the person's arm causing his weapon to fall or simply jumping up and creating a landing spot with force.
The bandits that attempted to surround Jason wavered. Seeing him slay bandits again and again. It didn't matter if they all attack at once he seemed to have eyes on the back of his head and in the darkness of the night he could easily slip in and out with his superior agility while the bandits hit each other with their attacks.
Jason ran towards the forest a good place for him to fight. The bandits followed him regaining their morale after seeing him flee.
The mana that Jason had been channeling into his sword started to fade and soon in the forest, Jason couldn't be seen.
The group of now 14 bandits rushed into the forest. Jason knew there were more bandits hiding in the forest. But he first needed to deal with these bandits first.
The bandits walked into the forest spread out with their weapons drawn out and cautiously looking out.
From the trees, Jason leaped towards and landed on one of them and with both of his weapons impaled him. As the body was falling Jason pulled out his weapons and rotated his body and pushed off against the falling body and leaped back into the trees.
All of this happened in a matter of seconds and the bandits only noticed that their comrade was dead in a few more seconds after he gave a small death cry.
A group of 3 bandits found the dead body of their comrade.
Two of the bandits checked on the dead body of their comrade. But two metal skewers impaled them to the ground as they kneeled down to check on him.
The last bandit that gave a scream of fear and ran deeper into the forest, he turned his head around and saw something that almost made him piss his pants.
A figure with a cold metallic amour and helmet, a small red glow emitting from the visor of the helmet. In the small amount of moonlight, he looked like a grim reaper.
Jason a few feet behind the bandits back held his sword above his head with both of his hands raised.
Jason had a merciless look in his eyes as he slashed down.
He looked around one more time and checked that nobody was nearby, he climbed back up on a tree and re-began the hunt.
