The school bell rang with a mighty roar.
The classes were all dismissed as the students began to scatter in all directions. Their movement was erratic and jubilant. The school day was over at North Middle School and so began the students personal time of day.
The students flooded the library after school. Ten kids was already so much to deal with but the Librarian would supervise that many kids all day every day if it meant she didn't have to deal with the "rush hour".
The "rush hour" was what the librarians called the time when school let out and all the students rushed to the library to relax and make a mess of the place. Mostly it wasn't intentional but lately there had been a few troublemakers who treated rules like guidelines; thinking you didn't have to follow them.
The Librarian hated those kind of kids and thought they would never grow up to be good adults. Today was no exception as the bad image the kids did not know they were cultivating in the Librarians mind grew more and more.
The library was a medium sized quaint building that housed a great many bookshelves and books. The number of books housed within was once recorded at this library 3 years in the past, the number of books was actually bigger than fifty thousand! The basement of the building had a library as well which housed older books for the more mature highschoolers and beyond.
The Librarian was assigned to the upper floor or the ground floor as it housed middle school appropriate books and newer books as well.
The day was rather chilly when the students began to poor into the library and make themselves at home among the copious amounts of chairs and sofas located strategically all around the library in clusters. These reading clusters usually had a theme for each one including a Spider Man cluster and a dragon cluster. The students usually chose a favorite topic among the ten to be chosen then sat in that cluster.
A certain group of kids always sat in the Spider Man cluster, and that certain group of kids always made it their goal to cause trouble. The trouble came in many different forms: not putting books back on the shelves or making a mess of clusters was only a few examples as the boys had been at it for a while and they did something new everyday.
Today the troublesome group decided to pick on a student that was not in a cluster nor a group. A loner per se. The kid was a pitiful type, with black hair and tan skin. The boy stood out with his Asian heritage, he stood out in a bad way and the group of kids wanted to fix that.
All it took was three hits before the kid was out. He was skinny and didn't stand a chance against five well fed and energetic teenagers who were older than him. Luckily, the librarian was there to save the kid from being dragged away but was too late to prevent the fight.
"GET OUT OF HERE NOW!"
The kids were so caught up in their triumph that they hadn't noticed the fury of in the Librarians eyes. They had never seen her so angry, even when they had pulled as many books as they could off the shelves and hid them in the back corner, she still kept her voice down.
"OUT!"
The one word was all that was needed to chase away those kids, as they ran with their tails between their legs. The Librarian paid no more attention to them, she immediately began to check on boy and hope that he was alright.
Ten minutes later the young boy to woke up in the middle of the nurses office. A groan and then a flutter of eyelashes signaled his return to consciousness as the Librarian and the nurse watched over him. Siting up slowly the boy began to feel his muscles and the bruises ache.
"Are you alright?"
"Where am I? And.... who are you?"
"Oh dear, he seems to have lost some of his memory."
The nurse looked at the kid with pity. She had not seen a case like this in years.
"I don't believe that is the case, I've never seen him before so he might not know where he currently is. Might he be a new student?"
"That is possible, I heard of a transfer student just last week; maybe it's him?"
The conversation continued as the boy looked on in confusion, the two did not look like they would stop talking anytime soon, so the boy took the initiative to get their attention.
"Um, excuse me for interrupting but... where am I?"
The two suddenly realized their blunder and began to apologize.
"Golly me, i'm terribly sorry. My name in Mrs. Meralda and I am the nurse at North Middle School"
"And I am Ms. Told, the librarian at North Middle School, are you the transfer student?"
The boy looked at them in confusion for a while before a look of realization came upon his face.
"Ah, yes I just transferred here yesterday. My parents moved here a week ago."
The two ladies soon smiled upon learning this. Their guess had been correct.
"But um, can I ask why i'm in the nurses office?"
TEN YEARS LATER
The familiar scenery of North Middle School was a nostalgic sight, he had not been here in ages.
It was intentional at first to avoid this place, but then all the memories he had made convinced him to visit, who knew he would suddenly get a job offer to work in the exact library he used to goof around in after school?
"I missed you North Middle"
Walking up to the door to the library the young man smiled,
"Maybe it's fate that I met her again"
Whether it was or not did not matter, for the young man opened the door and so began a new chapter.
