The next few rounds went rather simple. None of them as hard as the second round was. I used very few spells, mainly the shadow spell and the fire sword. Also an occasional dark bolt as well.
Now there were only four of us left.
'Two more fights then I have at least qualified. By the looks of it, they are not difficult opponents but at the same time they must have some skill to get this far.'
As all of the other times before, my number appeared in the air, alongside my opponent's number. She was a fire mage by the looks of it, but unlike most people who used the destruction path. She was a magma user. The most uncommon of the fire paths that are chosen first.
We looked at each other across the ring.
'She is actually quite good looking, not only that she has curves in all of the right places....Wait! What the hell am I thinking? This is a fight? Not that.'
As soon as the barrier came up, I cast the shadow spell that I had ready to go,covering my half of the ring in shadows, she did something similar and made her half covered in a field of magma. This made the ring look very odd. One half was black and the other bright red.
I could see her from the edge of the darkness, she was standing as far away from me as she could. So to get to her, I would have to cross the whole field of magma, which would be very difficult not to mention she would be able to cast at least one spell before I got to her.
I just stood there watching her, waiting for a mistake. She on the other hand was obviously starting to get impatient and began sending balls of lava into the shadows, they however would explode after just entering the shadows sending lava out in all directions. This meant that although I was usually safe, I did have to move around a little bit, to ensure that I was not hit by anything.
It didn't take me long to release though that her lava balls were causing my shadow spell to slowly get smaller.
'Shit. I am going to have to do something or I will definitely lose.' I didn't make a noise as I cursed in my head, afraid that she would notice and send more of her spells at me.'
In the darkness I had, I began to cast a much bigger spell. I was writing in the old draconic language in the air as well as muttering an incarnation. Before me the fire and darkness mana began to come together extremely quickly, with one last word the shadow spell disappeared, all of the mana powering entering my new spell.
In front of me, a massive sword appeared. It was made of fire and dark mana. The sword was just long enough so that it could reach her, who was at the other end of the ring. I could see her face go pale seeing my new weapon. She recovered quickly though and began to launch attacks at me now that I was exposed. Using the duel sword I controlled it to swing down onto her. Unlike what you would from its massive size, it moved so quickly that it gave no time to dodge.
The sword exploded on impact with the ground, sending her flying and with that I one the round. Her magma field disappears with her body.
I stumbled out of the ring, nearly collapsing though at a point. The spell just drained me so much. Seeing me sitting down on the ground with a pale face. One of the masters came over to check on me.
Much to my shame, I didn't even notice him, until he touched my shoulder. I managed to look up at him. Feeling extremely tired. The combination spell took too much out of me.
Like I thought he would have, he noticed my condition imditly and gave me a bottle with a blue liquid inside of it.
"Kid, only drink a li.....it will help."
My hearing went after drinking, so I managed to hear it will help. Oblivious to the fact he just told me that I should only drink a small amount, I downed the whole thing. I started to feel better almost immediately. The master mage had a shocked look on his face. Feeling my wrist burning I knew that it was my turn to go and fight.
I thanked the master and left to go and fight. As I got closer to the ring, I began to feel hotter and hotter. It was like I would be able to cast that spell multiple times over and over again. In the ring, the other person looked at me expending a good fight.
"Adoh your name is right? Let us just make this quick. You send your strongest attack at me and I will send my strongest at you."
Happy that this would not take long, no matter the outcome. "Yeah that sounds great."
With the insane amount of energy that was flowing around my body, I decided that using the combination spell would be fine. Once the barrier came up, we both finished the incartations for our spells, in front of me a black and red greatsword appeared, unlike before it looked much more detailed. I was even surprised.
'It seems like the increase in my energy has made the spell a lot stronger.'
In front of him a whirlwind of fire appeared. It seemed like he was a duel mage as well, but of the wind and fire elements.
With a little nod to each other, we launched my spell. Anti climatically my sword cleavered is whirlwind in half and smashed near by him, the explosion doing the same as it had to the girl from before.
This time though unlike before I didn't feel tired, I just felt normal.
Unbeknown to me, the use of that spell caused the excess energy from the potion to be expelled, allowing me not to explode from the insane amount of energy in my body.
Walking off the ring, I was met by the master who gave me the potion. He did a quick check over me, which I was confused about. Once he was certain that I was fine.
"Well done, you have won the field. Come back again in a few days for the main tournament, oh and good luck. That combination spell of yours is really impressive. Just don't over do it and make sure you can use it safely. We do not want someone with your skill to die so quickly."
After bidding farewell, I left the arena and went to look for Lars and Alyx.
