A New Friend, A New Quest

After Ge Liang woke up, with party sounds still ringing in his ears, the system's notification sounded. Wow, right after he woke up... the system really wanted him to start his day fast.

Hmm.. He could not let this slide! The shop's reputation and honour could be stained if his employees were engaging in unlawful behaviour... that might even ruin his plans to take over as a successful manager of the branch he worked at! This was not acceptable to Ge Liang, and so as he went to work he started investigating. He walked to work, past the cars, shops and dreams of his youth, enjoying the sights as he went by. "I'm really a system owner now... One day, I will ascend to heights never before seen! But I must not forget where I came from... I will remember my youth fondly, and treasure this place, as I may move soon... He opened the doors to a lively, engaging and fun workplace. People were doing the mundane work of life, but in a fun way! He hoped that his presence and the office party had contributed to the good mood at least somewhat. Ge Liang needed to not be suspiciously investigative, but still find things out. With his reputation as a good employee and an assistant manager, he could most likely get away with asking. He pulled up his Employee Manager tool and started searching for the people whose satisfaction of him was the highest according to the system. The first on his list was a young, shy Junior Cashier who usually didn't participate in games and fun, but was a good employee and deeply respectful of Ge Liang, as he managed to get good work done but always added fun in. As a young child, he had always been traumatised by his heavy workload. His parents made him practice and practice until he was absolutely perfect, and it scarred him for life. He had always been taught that he could not have fun in work, that he should just work hard and not have a care about his mental health. However, Ge Liang was changing his world-view, and he was deeply grateful. As Ge Liang went over his list of questions, the Junior Cashier named Wei Qian gave him a question in return. Surprised, Ge Liang looked up to hear his question. "Ge Liang, I think you will be very successful in the future. If you ever start a business or have a shop, may I be a part of your entourage? I will help you with projects and things that need doing. Will you please accept me?" Hmm... Maybe it would be good to accept someone to help me with mundane system tasks, after all, Ge Liang had better things to do. Ge Liang checked Wei Qian's potential and found that it was not bad. He had no problem with taking in someone as a part of his entourage, but there was one problem: With all of the money the black hearted system required for upgrades and whatever the hell it pleased, he had no funds left to hire any employees... "I can see what you're thinking, Mr. Liang. I don't need payment, working under someone like you is good enough! However, I need a reassurance. If you could, please let me join whatever companies you start!" Ge Liang was fine with this, and he shook hands with him. Wei Qian would now come over 3 hours a day to help with whatever needed to get done after work at night. Done with this conversation, Ge Liang went to go interview the other people on his short-list of trustworthy employees. After a while, he was done interviewing all the people on his list. He reviewed the information he had received so far.

1. A group of cashiers was charging extra for products, then skimming off the top for themselves.

2. These people were from the same gang as the people that beat up the bullied employee.

3. Everyone was afraid of them, and his standing among employees would rise greatly if he drove them away.

4. They were very strong, and some had weapons.

Ge Liang knew that whatever organisation was behind this would most likely be larger than he could deal with at the moment. However strong his physique was, he would not like to field test whether he could be shot with a gun and survive. Especially now that his strength pill was gone, he had to be very careful about who he antagonised. Starting a war with a gang would not be a good idea at the moment. However, he could continue gathering information and gather system rewards so that he could eventually take them on. *Ding! You have some mini-quests to do!* As Ge Liang reviewed his mini-quests, he saw that they generally required a certain amount of experience, work or study. Thankfully, Wei Qian was now here to help, and he could still progress on his main quests with only occasional interference with the more mundane tasks. Ge Liang knew he might have to do some farming (Author's Note: Farming is a term for doing often repetitive tasks in video games to earn money.) to successfully complete his main storyline. He headed off for his first meeting with Wei Qian to discuss his job, preferences and work times. His near future was bright, and Ge Liang was pleased with his progress.
