Home is Where the Soul is

The Deathbringers walked into their new home with wide-eyed wonder darting across their faces.

"Welcome home, everyone," Lyghtning said excitedly.

Home, it was a word Jaybird wasn't used to hearing. He was orphaned at a young age, his parents succumbing to a pandemic that spread across the globe. Since then, he'd bounced around relatives who never failed to make him feel unwanted. Even now, after having lived a full year with his grumpy old grandfather in his flat in Brooklyn, Jaybird still didn't feel quite at home there.

Never mind that the old man whisked him away from an uncle and aunt who barely fed the kid, or the fact that his grandfather ensured he'd eat enough to get chubby, in the ways that mattered, the man was distant. Possibly because Jaybird had reminded him too much of his dead son who was Jaybird's dad.

"We get our own rooms, right?" Serenity asked.

"It does look big enough for all of us," Annabelle's Dolly replied.
