48 - Tournament 2 part 4

Having a deeper understanding of the destruction that was about to take place, the principal who was a level 800 reinforced the barrier further. Now only tier 5 attacks were capable of shattering it, that was the new advantage. The disadvantage was the chance that the barrier gets destroyed if I use a tier 5 skill.

My first priority was to escape this risky situation. Being dead in the centre, I'm prone to debuffs and control attacks that immobilise me. Lucky enough, with my speed I can just dodge all their attacks. On the signal, an array of 4 colours swam my vision. Since I was surrounded, I used [shadow step] to teleport out of range. Being the final match of the tournament, 80% of the venue was the battle ground. It was still decently large as it was roughly twice the size of the classroom building.

The 4 colours merged and formed a mushroom cloud in the middle of the field, leaving a crater behind. Placing energy into my legs, I lunged forward with all my strength. Landing my arm through Kenny's torso, his skill couldn't completely save him from physical attacks. Spewing like a waterfall, his blood stained quite a bit of my dress as it swayed in the wind from the shock waves formed. Dissipating into mana and reappearing outside the barrier, one participant was out of the final match, now for the last 3.

In the distance, Jessald exerted all her strength and fortitude as she shot crystals after crystals like a machine gun. Waving her hand in the air, Fez injected mana into her skills as rays of darkness shot forth. It was truly a fantasy battle between mages.

Engulfing the battle ground in an illusion, Jessald received the debuff [disorientation]. Not giving in, she put one knee and one hand on the ground to recover what's left of her balance before shooting crystals out of the ground. Activating a reflection skill, Fez redirected back the crystals back to Jessald as she closes the distance.

Wielding a magic tool that looked similar to a shotgun, she sent mana in to activate it. A deafening sound echoes through the battleground as a purple glow flashed before dissipating. A crater was left where jessald was standing, yet... Jessald had produced a crystal shield and some crystal armour in time. She really had grown in ability since last year. Wielding a chain and sickle, Jessald's chain coiled around 50 metres of radius like a snake.

A blade shines a white glow while going up and down, closing any gaps in Jessald's defense. The only way was to go through with sheer fire power. Pulling out 3 more magic shotguns and maintaining them in the air with magic, Fez pulls the trigger, destroying the chains along with Jessald's desperate attempt of making a crystal shield. A burn mark could be seen on Jessald's left side as they continued to exchange rays of magic and destruction.

A crystal manages to fly through Fez's defenses and slashes on the right of her waist. Clicking her tongue, Fez only thought of persevering through this fight of attrition. Using skills to boost her stamina, Fez continued to dodge crystals while shooting back projectiles as well.

"[Illusion-tier 4]"(Fez)

"[Fluid sense]!" (Jessald)

Detecting for the slightest signs or fluctuations in the environment, a cold bead of sweat dripped down Jessald's neck as she prepared to shield herself at a moment's notice. "[Abyss fall] ". A giant purple glow swallowed the surroundings, manipulating the mana with practiced steps, Fez redirected the giant ray of energy to curve back and hit Jessald's location again.

Behind the rain of glowing purple light, Jessald was barely holding on to her crystal barrier. The redirected blast didn't help her chances of survival either as it gave her more pressure. Slowly, the crystal barrier started cheaping, the strangest part was that the rate of the crystal barrier breaking down was getting faster and faster. From the outside of all this, the giant ball of energy was constantly aimed at Jessald, the speed gradually increasing to exert more stress onto the barrier.

After a crack, it proceeded like a domino as the cracks extended all around Jessald and finally collapsed, leaving her to be swallowed by the giant ball of purple energy. While they were having their own fight, I was distracted by James. His level was in the high 500s,easily becoming a match for any student but me. His skills specialised in boosting his own stats, you would need a general of this kingdom to actually beat him in a fight. Too bad, I've transcended the normal standard of stats a year ago.

Forming a scythe in my right hand, I lunged forward to land on my right foot and swung horizontally. The scythe was met by his blade, that looked typical of a hero in games. It fit the description of "holy sword" with the yellow 'wing' hilt and the white handle. He had fancy white magical armour as well. It may be a skill, but it didn't interest me. Struggling with all his strength, he activates [herculean strength]. He goes further and stacks [Herculean strength Ex].

Following that second boost of his strength, the scythe was decimated back into mana as I flew back from the shockwave, crashing against a rock. [Shadow step] 's anti-gravity was barely able to reduce the force, the shockwave alone shattered my ribcage causing blood to fly out of my throat. Tch, stacking 2 'sin' level power boosts by using skills alone, just how overpowered is his class? So this was why he had absolute confidence.

Well, it's too bad my speed is still far superior. Punching his fist inti the ground, James made use of the shockwave to boost his speed. Most of the energy went into the ground, so the boost wasn't that substantial. On the other hand, I haven't used my full speed. Creating another scythe, I injected all my energy into my limbs. Lifting my feet of the ground, it was as if gravity stopped existing. Landing my left leg on the ground, the air and ground detonated from the energy produced as I inserted my remaining strength into swinging my scythe at James' neck.

A tiny grin was plastered on his face as he shattered the scythe again. Due to the momentum of my speed, I couldn't feel the shockwave at all as I shot through his defense. Did you think shattering my scythe would save you? Crushing the remaining parts of the scythe with the grip of my right hand, my palm became bloody as I closed my hand in and shut the fingers tight. Yes, I turned my hand from a weapon grip to a fist. Landing my right leg into the ground, the recoil and every force was gathered into my right fist.

Shattering through his armour and magical barriers like paper, my fist sinks into his torso. Right as that happened, a huge explosion engulfs the surroundings as James gets eliminated. The fight was down to the same last 2 participants again. Just like last year, we made another bet a month before the tournament. Following the bet, I lost the backing of the Wasuri clan and the Tsumond clan.

It was very simple, the remaining government was watching this match, to find a suitable ruler to replace the late king. Obviously when the winner becomes the king, they could demand backing from their lords without any resistance. Thus this bet ties in with the one that I made with the late king as well. If I won and ascend the throne, receiving backing from the 7 great families was a given, this would make the contract I made with the king activate.

What I realised too late was that, if I was already the king, the bet with the late king would be pointless, considering the reward was to be in the royal family;to be the late king's little sister.
