The Kitchen Mess (1)

Like a little lost lamb, Lillian followed the two men out of the room and then into the elevator. She was too eager to know about the girl the two men were talking about earlier, but she knew that she had to keep her curiosity in check, and to herself.

She couldn't go around asking too many questions, especially if they concerned Blake's personal life. It wasn't her place to begin with, so she just continued standing in one corner of the elevator with her eyes looking down at the polished surface.

She could see her own reflection staring back at her, which had her wondering about the cleaning staff. Since she woke up, she didn't really see anyone except for some men and women working in the kitchen. She wondered when and how the cleaning staff worked here.

To her, this whole place was a world on its own which had her wondering about every single thing.

Ping!

The elevator had only come to a halt with it's doors not even fully open when she saw a figure rushing past her. It was Blake. He was so eager to find his way back to the kitchen that he didn't wait for the door to slide open completely.

"Does he usually act like this? I mean, this careless." Lillian asked the old butler who was now standing next to her while she kept her eyes on Blake's retreating figure.

"Not really. It is just the Young Miss's presence which makes me act like this." The old butler shook his head as he answered her.

'Oh!." Lillian mumbled to herself. She didn't know what else to say when it came to Blake. He was her savior, and soon-to-be Boss.

"Shall we go?" The old butler asked her as he motioned her to step outside of the elevator.

"Umm… but where?" Lillian questioned him yet she did as she was asked to, and stepped out of the elevator only to be followed by him.

"Don't you want to see her?" The old butler added softly as he began to guide her towards the kitchen once again. He didn't have to ask her twice to get a yes in return.

"Sure, if only it's alright." She squealed internally as soon as her mind processed the old butler's words but tried to stay calm on the outside. She didn't want him to think of her as some outsider who was trying to poker her nose into everything. But then again she would always be one.

What she didn't know was that her curiosity about the lady had already been picked up by the old butler's experienced orbs. He could tell that she was eager to ask some questions but was holding her curiosity back.

He had only offered her to accompany him down there because he didn't find anything wrong in her getting to know the Young Miss as well. Sooner or later, she was bound to run into her. It was better if she had an idea who the other person was.

"Is there anything you'd like to ask me?" He spoke up in order to turn down the awkwardness which was lingering in the air. It was his attempt at making her comfortable with the place, including the staff. If she was going to start living her life with them, she should get used to it. The sooner she gets comfortable with it all, the better it was for her.

"Can I ask something about the person who's racking up the whole place?" She mumbled, carefully choosing her words. She wouldn't want the old man to get angry out of nowhere, especially when he had been nothing but nice to her.

"Of course you can." He replied politely.

"What was Blake so angsty about the whole thing as soon as you finished?" It was the main thing which had been bugging her mind.

"Because the Young Miss means a lot to him. He can see the whole kitchen burning down, but he can't stand to see her getting a single scratch." The old man replied to her politely.

"Oh! He must care for her a lot." Lillian shared her thoughts with him only to see him nod his head in response.

"He does." The old butler took a pause as they turned around the end of the corridor. "After the death of his father, she is the only he has left. So, he cherishes her, and spoils her more than he should. He is taking care of all of this while making sure that she lives life to the fullest, and gets to see all of her dreams coming true."

"That is so nice of him." Lillian commented.

"That is more than nice of him, but he never takes the credit for it. He is just like that." The old butler continued.

"Why is that so?" She couldn't help but question him.

"He surely comes off as too scary before others, but that doesn't apply to his personal life. He is a completely different person when he is with people whom he cherishes. Young Master Adam, and the Young Miss are among those people. For all I know, they are probably the only two people around whom he is a completely different person." The old butler explained it to her.

"You have got your counting wrong. I think it's three people, not two." Lillian shook her head and corrected the old man as she stared at his back.

"How can two people make three?" The old man was left confused by her confident claims.

"It's not two people which makes three. It's three people. You forgot to count yourself." Lillian explained it to him as her feet came to a stop, following his lead, right outside the kitchen entrance.

It wasn't the same route as before which she had taken earlier in the evening with Zak's guidance. This time she didn't have to go through the hall, and the door which was ahead of her opened to the other side of the kitchen.

But when she trailed her eyes towards the entrance, she refused to believe that it was the same place where she had had her breakfast.
