Chapter 24

Xiu Ying and Xi Xing entered the building to see many others. Some were at the buffet, some were dancing, others were just socializing. This didn't look like a small event.

"I thought it was a small gathering. Why is more than half the school population here?" she whispered to Xi Xing, who just shrugged. She too was confused.

Xiu Ying looked around and noticed how huge the place was in itself. She wondered what she was invited to. They walked in deeper and both got drinks.

Xi Xing had left when her other friends dragged her away. She looked apologetically at Xiu Ying while being ushered away. Xiu Ying was now alone with a drink in her slim hands.

Xiu Ying hadn't been to major events like this, so she didn't interact much. She didn't know more than sixty percent of these people so there was nothing to talk about. She wasn't the most social.

She didn't act like she didn't notice the stares of both men and women like they were looking at some new specimen. She ignored the stares as best as she could and continued to kind her business.

Not far away, where Xiu Ying couldn't see unless she squinted her eyes were a pair of eyes looking weirdly at her. It was partly interested partly lustful. The person smiled and adjusted his clothes. Seems like he had to play hero to save the 'damsel in distress.'

Xiu Ying felt a presence approaching her and looked towards it. She saw that person she really wanted to see tonight.

Lu Yifeng.

Does he not have anyone else to talk to? Why does he always approach her? She thought her actions towards him were clear yet he always seemed to be coming back.

Yifeng had approached her and smiled. Normally, his smile would have caused some girls to blush. Yifeng wasn't bad looking. He was tall and had a good build for a person studying in a university. He even had his own share of admirers once in a while.

Unfortunately, Xiu Ying wasn't one of them, yet he seemed to be blind seeing that. Sometimes it seemed like she was punching cotton. Her attitude should have sent a clear message: she wanted nothing to do with him.

She gave a little forced smile out of politeness. Even though she didn't want to admit it, he was the only familiar person right now.

Yifeng stretched out his hand. "Will you dance with me?"

Xiu Ying wasn't ready for that and looked at his hand for a few seconds, then sighed and took it. 'Might as well' she thought to herself.

Li Na had finally arrived at the venue. She looked like she was coming for a red carpet more than anything. She turned heads and loved the attention she was getting.

As she was about to enter, she saw an expensive black car also park, then saw people come out of it. She was surprised and happy.

Zhang Wei had arrived at this family dinner reluctantly. He would be doing anything now than be here. He had to though because he simply respected his parents too much.

He could feel a stare on him and he turned to the direction of the stare. He saw a woman wearing a black dress looking at him and smile. He was used to such eyes so it didn't faze him.

He looked at the building and realized that she was probably here for some dinner.

The building had two parts. A typical restaurant that Zhang Wei was going to, and a conference-style restaurant for much larger events. He merely glanced at her for a few seconds then turned away like she wasn't even there.

Li Na, on the other hand, was beaming. He looked at her. She couldn't help the blush that came to her face. Then the smile vanished. What was he doing here? He obviously wasn't here for the party because it isn't a large scale party.

She then looked towards the restaurant and got worried. What if he was meeting a woman? She didn't even want to think about it.

Zhang Wei then got a call. When he saw the caller, he sighed and picked up.

"Mom, I'm here. I'll be in soon."

His mother must have said something that made him curve his lips. Li Na was stunned from the smile but got worried. What if that was another woman? No no. She has to be optimistic.

She remembered that he doesn't really socialize until completely necessary, so she concluded that he was going for a business dinner. She couldn't get the smile off her face though.

She saw him walk away, and quickly she looked at the building she was meant to enter.

"I was supposed to help Yifeng but I think he's got it."

She turned and followed him in after he had gone, but was stopped at the entrance.

"Reservation?"

The man looked at her. She didn't know what to do because she had no reservation. Then an idea struck her.

"Do you not know who I am? How dare you stop me from entering."

The robust man sized her up. She wasn't that expensively dressed but he also considered if it was just a disguise to test him? He didn't want to offend any family. He was only ordinary.

He allowed her in. "Welcome miss. Hope you enjoy it."

He bowed and Li Na smiled a little then cat-walked deeper into the restaurant. When he was out of sight, she started looking around and saw him right away.

She smiled when she saw him but stopped when she saw who he was with.

She saw an elderly but elegant man and woman. The man looked like the older version of Zhang Wei so she knew those were his parents. She looked at the other side of the table and what she saw brought anger to her eyes.

She saw another elderly couple and a woman. That woman was the same one she saw at the store, so she deduced that they were having some kind of joint family dinner.

She got a table closest to them as possible so she won't stand out too much. She was angry that they were being deceived by the behaviour she was showing. It was different from the behaviour she showed her in the store.

She wondered what they were together for. Then an idea that horrified her struck her. What if they were planning a marriage?
