Limit Breaking Quest: Lightning Rabbit

The golden eyes of the lightning rabbit fixated him. Dave observed every movement of its muscles then he saw it. The muscles in its hindlegs contracted slightly.

'NOW!'

"[Strong Movement]," shouted Dave. Simultaneously he made a swishing gesture with his hand and materialized 8 bouncy bubbles around him.

He and the lightning rabbit charged forward at the same time.

Just when both of them were about to clash it zigzagged away to Dave's left side.

Dave moved one bouncy bubble in front of him slightly to his right so that it would deflect him in the direction of the rabbit.

Full force Dave crashed into the bubble. Its elastic and bouncy nature helped him accelerate to an even higher speed level.

Again Dave and the rabbit were about to clash and again the rabbit changed its direction in the last moment possible.

This time it stopped its charge and with its intelligent yellow eyes evaluated the human in front of it.

At the same time, the duration of [Strong Movement] was over.

Dave made a rough brake with his heels tearing up the grass of the plain.

"Shit its reflexes are simply faster than mine. Furthermore, it can much easier change its direction even though I use the bouncy bubbles.

Time to overwork the strategy!"

Dave swished his hand through the air and the bubbles distributed themselves around him and the rabbit.

With a single thought of his, they started rotating, creating a blue blur around themselves.

"This time you won't be able to escape," said Dave enthusiastically.

Responding to Dave's words the rabbit put its ears on.

"Squeeeessshhh," screamed the lightning rabbit.

The glow of its golden fur stripes intensified and lightning sprung to life around it.

"SHIT!" screamed Dave. 'So that wasn't all it could do.'

The rabbit readied itself for another round and again Dave waited for the moment its hindlegs started contracting.

But this time it just happened to fast. The lightning the rabbit covered itself with not only increased its speed but its reflexes as well. In just a blink of an eye, it was right in front of him and smashed with full power against his ribcage. Dave without defense as he was, flew through the air and landed hard on his back.

"Blarrrghhh." He vomited a mouthful of blood.

'There has to be a way. I won't accept it. My power is similar to a game and games never give you quests that are impossible to solve.'

Dave tried to put the clues together. Increasing his speed alone was obviously not possible right now. He needed something to distract the rabbit's concentration.

'There is still one ability I didn't use because I need eye contact and it is limited in its effectiveness against those stronger than you.'

The ability that came to Dave's mind was [Hero's Intimidating Glare].

'Only if I combine all my powers and use my creativity then will I find a solution for this.'

Dave looked around calmly and tried to figure out a path that would lead him to victory. He traced the movement of the rabbit and then he suddenly noticed something. His eyes were looking back at him from behind the rabbit. The bubbles he controlled to circle around both of them were reflecting his own image.

He smirked. A new plan formed inside his head.

'This has to work.'

He controlled the bubbles to circles them even faster. Their image more and more blurred into a big blue ring. The surface of this bubble ring was crystal clear like a mirror.

Bewildered by the reflection of its own appearance the lightning rabbit stopped its movement.

'That's my chance!' As fast as he could Dave started his attack chain.

'[Strong Movement]' Dave dashed forward.

The same moment the rabbit wanted to accelerate again he activated his next ability.

'Hero's Intimidating Glare'

The rabbit was only 5 meters apart from him when his ability activated and the radiance of his eyes made the rabbit change directions.

Even though the rabbit managed to escape, everything still worked as planned. His eyes instead of facing the rabbit directly were now reflected in the mirror he created using his bubbles.

It wasn't just one reflection. Every reflection was, of course, reflected again and again and again. These had obviously not the same power as the original but these mirror images didn't need to be that strong.

They prevailed through quantity and not quality.

Right now hundreds of eyes were radiating the power of 'Heroes Intimidating Glare'. The lightning rabbit was stunned by its superimposing powers and halted its movements.

At that time Dave bounced against the wall. Through the change of direction, the power of [Hero's Intimidating Glare] broke off. This was only a short moment but more than enough time for the rabbit to accelerate again.

This continued again and again and Dave had reactivated several times already [Strong Movement].

Through the continuous bouncing, Daves speed reached new heights and he was starting to pick up with the rabbit.

'Time for phase 2!'

With a single thought, he made the bubble ring narrow its radius.

As a result, the space the rabbit had to escape him shrank tremendously.

Dave bounced from one side of the ring to the other. With every bouncing against a wall got his speed faster and faster.

His speed reached a point where he lost his sense of direction and even the rabbit had its problems to calculate in which direction it should escape.

So the inevitable happened.

Dave and the lightning rabbit charged at each other with full power. The rabbit tried its best to work the lightning currents around its body with all its might to change its direction in the last second. But its effort was to no avail.

Dave, who was angry by all the Heroism he lost during this quest and the injuries he had to endure, let loose his last unused ability.

"[Apprentice Hero's Punch]" shouted Dave.

His fist exploded forward and hit the lightning rabbit in the side.

The force of the punch was further strengthened by his abnormal speed and the effect of the ability.

[Apprentice Hero's Punch] [C]

[When push comes to shove the only thing a hero can trust is the power of his fists. Unleash your strongest punch.

If your punch hits a villain then your Heroism rises by +4.

Effect: 55% increased attack power

costs: 16 Heroism per use]

The lightning rabbit was flung away by it. It smashed with a loud 'BANG' against the bubble mirrors and with a last loud 'Squeeeaaakkk' dissolved into lightning.

Panting heavily Dave stopped all his abilities and stood in the middle of the grass plain keeping himself steady with his hands on his knees.

"Hahahaha!" laughing loudly he jumped in the air and shouted, "I finally did it!"

A window appeared in front of the celebrating Dave and a fanfare sounded.

[Congratulation]

The letters dissolved after a few seconds and were replaced by something new.

[Limit Breaking Quest: Lightning Rabbit]

[Quest cleared!

[Agility] SSS -> ULTIMATE

Special Reward:

For killing the lightning rabbit you gain as a bonus reward its essence.

[Lightning Rabbit Essence] Rank: Ultimate]

The grass plain around Dave dissolved.

While he waited for everything to go back to normal, he decided to check his Heroism.

'This fight was pretty expensive.'

Dave's Heroism dropped by 30.000 points. Now only 52.000 Heroism was left for him. He would have to start questing like hell during the next days. If this quest cost him already this much then he would need even more for what was about to come. The costs for the next [Limit Breaking Quests] alone were already 50.000 Heroism.

If he only had 2000 to use for skills left then his chances were slim. Furthermore, he had for every quest only one chance. Another point he had to think about was that he still needed spare points he could take with him to the mainland as some kind of safety net.

After he finally felt his body like normal again, he opened his eyes. In front of him was a worried Ayano waiting for him to come back to his senses.

He touched his face and noticed that blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. It seemed as if the injuries he received over there weren't just done to his energy body.

He looked up from his hands right into the big eyes of Ayano, who cast a worried look at him.

"What happened? Is everything all right?"

She placed her hand on his head and used her healing powers to heal his injuries.

When she was finished Dave got back on his feet and said, "Yes Ayano no need to worry. It was just a little bit more difficult than we expected."

Dave told Ayano about everything that happened. She was shocked to hear of what he had to endure and told him, "Dave are you sure it was a lightning rabbit you encountered? They are extremely rare on the mainland and count as transcendental beings. Lightning rabbits can as well as humans train themselves. A few years back a group of adventurers discovered a Rank 9 lightning rabbit. They thought they were going to die but it just hopped away."

"The one I had to fight wasn't that nice, I can tell you. It had around 1,5 times my running speed and it was so flexible in its movements. If I had to fight it in the real world, I doubt I would have won..." explained Dave still shocked by the power of that small rabbit.

"That is only natural," answered Ayano. "Lightning Rabbits are known for its extreme speeds. They are one of the few beings that can brake naturally through to the Ultimate Rank. Though that is limited to their agility. That is why they are classified as transcendental beings as I told you before."

"If you know that much about them, then can you tell me please what I can do with a [Lightning Rabbit Essence]?", asked Dave.

Just when Ayano wanted to tell him more about the lightning rabbit, she stopped with mouth and eyes wide opened.

"Eeeehhhhh, wait, don't tell me you got your hands on a [Lightning Rabbit Essence]?"
