The real world was boring and no one was there willingly. The only thing people did there was work, and eat. Where did people spend the rest of there time? The answer would be in a game. For almost everyone this was there real world and the one they spent the most time in. Verous was the name of this world. There was a young man who in this world and was using a self made pod to play. He was playing and suddenly blacked out to wake up in a cabin he used to be alone in Verous. However he discovered that he was no longer a player and was an NPC.

I'm an NPC

Blue Star city was a place for new and low leveled players. Many players actively sought out NPCs for quests to try and earn EXP and money. A quest to gather herbs was one of the most common quests for low leveled players. 


The only thing was that out of the couple billion players some got lucky and the reward they got was much better than what anyone else got. This happened only a few times but it still made players look for unique or mysterious people giving out simple quests.


Aurora of course didn't need to look special or mysterious because he just walked around looking for a random player to give his quest to. While he wandered he also thought about what he should reward the player. He had many valuable items that he could give them but didn't know what was a normal reward for completing a gathering quest because he had never done one.


After a while of wandering he bumped into a player browsing goods at a stall. Because Auroras attributes were so high he accidentally knocked the player to the ground before snapping out of his trance. The player was furious at first but when he looked at Aurora he fell silent. The player felt an indescribable strength from this NPC. 


"Sorry, I wasn't paying attention. Are you alright?"


"Yep I'm fine, no problems. Say you wouldn't have anything you need help with would you?"


If the NPC was strong then if they gave out a quest the rewards would be good. The player asked a question often used to get NPCs to give a quest. Aurora felt this was as good a time as any to give out his quest and because he could use this incident as an excuse he could just show the player some items to choose from as a reward.


"Actually I do have something I need help with. If you gather 5 stacks of herbs I will give you a good reward as an apology for my mistake."


"Thank you, I will gather the herbs you need."


"You can meet me at the Green Rose when you are done."


System: Quest given. Select amount of EXP to award player. Maximum of 100,000.


Aurora was shocked by the message he received. He could not only give out rewards of his choosing but also select the amount of EXP. 


"Wait, if NPCs could choose the amount of experience to award a player doesn't that mean that some scammed players? Maybe the players who act like a dick get less EXP because NPCs want revenge."


Laughing to himself Aurora went to a NPC shop selling weapons and armor to see what quality people use at this level. He wanted to get a hint at what quality of equipment he should show to the player.


As Aurora was looking at equipment the player he gave the quest to was talking to his friends about the weird NPC.


"SolarMight are you sure that NPC was even strong?"


"He knocked me down while zoned out. AquaThorn how could he not be strong if he knocked me down while walking casually! He didn't trip me, he didn't even waver as if I was air!"


"Ok I get it the weird NPC was strong and he gave you a quest to gather herbs. I am sure he will give you a legendary item made by World's Hand for you valiant fight with the bushes."


"We are only level 3 and our gear is horrible. We need 400 EXP to level up again and even an uncommon item would help us. If there is even a chance of getting something we should still do it. It's not like it will harm us to gather a few herbs."


"Fine we'll do it. I guess we can waste time on a boring quest because you fell in love with an NPC."
