Chapter 2

When the huge army gathered on top of the metallic platform a bright orange light suddenly started seeping out of it, while some people were surprised by the sight there were also people who didn't seem to care. Sam and Edward were part of the first group, they looked at the orange light with wide eyes while Franklin was part of the other group, he didn't care and instead looked at the surprised newbies in front of him.

"For some of you it will be their first trip using a teleport station, I'll warn you that it isn't a comfortable trip.

You're all going to be teleported to a random point on the Tunger moon, your goal will be to bring back at least one Beast core of any level. Of course the more the better so, the top hundred amongst you who bring the most cores will immediately join the elite corps, the examination will last exactly 168 hours and you'll be teleported back right away when the time is over.

Get ready."

As soon as he said his last words Sam felt the world around him warp and about to break under a heavy pressure, he first felt light headed and then he started having an extreme headache. When he was about to release a groan of pain he felt something under his feet, he looked around and realized he was standing on a very small grass field surrounded by trees.

'That pain is inhuman... Fortunately it only last half a second.'

Around himself he could only see high trees, they looked to be around 10 meters high and completely blocked his view. He pulled out a dagger that was hanging on his waist and used it to help himself climb on a tree, that dagger was the weapon by default of the military and it was also the only tool that they were allowed to bring during this examination.

After a few nimble jumps Sam was standing on the crown of the tree and looked around himself, he was very careful to stay hidden in the leaves. The only person he was willing to meet now was Edward but the chances of them teleporting next to each other were close to zero so he forgot about it and thought:

'Priorities right now are securing a shelter, a source of food and a source of clean water.'

Somewhere else on Tunger moon Edward finished teleporting and held his head with both hands until he realized the pain was no more.

He looked around himself and all he could see was snow, at the horizon he could see a short mountain that wasn't covered in snow and he made it his goal straight away.

'How unlucky, finding food is a lot harder in such an environment. I'll leave this white desert first and will start gathering food somewhere else.'

Not only Sam and Edward but everyone was teleported to a safe distance from everyone else, Tunger moon was the smallest natural satellite of planet Moryl but it was still as big as a huge country ! Planet Moryl was the third biggest planet in the 872th Star system, although it was only ranked third in its star system it was still 4 times the size of the Original planet : Earth !

Back to Sam he jumped down the big tree and decided he would head towards a mountain range he saw not too far from himself, the mountain range had around 7 separate peaks he was able to see and probably more hidden behind the biggest ones.

'Mountains have snow and snow means rivers, I had a pretty lucky spawn.'

He started slowly trodding towards the mountains while staying at high alert, Alien beasts were known to have infected Tunger moon and although humans from Moryl had sent a few punitive expeditions to take them down and make Tunger another human territory they had failed so they had decided to use it as training ground for the military recruits.

This place seemed extremely dangerous and a bad place to send young military recruits but what Sam nor none of the other recruits knew was that each candidate was followed sneakily by a senior soldier ! Behind Sam was a woman around 25 years old with short black hair, she had pretty black eyes and plump lips that could make a lot of guys go crazy for, on top of that she had an alluring body that looked even sexier in her tight military uniform.

Unaware that he was being followed by a pretty woman Sam kept running and after three hours finally made it to the foot of a mountain.

'I can't see the peak because of the clouds...'

Sam wanted to check if there was snow on the peak that way he would know if there was a river flowing down the mountain but since he couldn't see the top he decided he would circle the mountain and see for himself, if there wasn't he would have wasted some precious time but he didn't have the choice. The rest of the peaks were also hidden behind clouds so he just had to check them one by one.

Fortunately after circling behind the mountain he started hearing water flowing !

'A waterfall !'

A big smile appeared on his face and he ran towards where the sound came from but he was surprised to see people crouching next to the small pool already.

The water fell into a sort of pool and then flowed down to a narrow river and the group of three were sitting next to the pool.

'How annoying...'

He looked at the group but still walked to the other side of the pool and ignored the small group, they were two girls and one guy and they all looked at him suddenly.

Since he didn't say anything they understood he didn't want to form a party to hunt together and they also didn't say anything to him, that made him happy. Forming parties was the strategy adopted by people who only aimed to get admitted, Sam on the other hand wanted to join the elite corps and couldn't share his loot with other party members, one less beast core could be detrimental to his goal.

He scooped a mouthful of water and smelled it, he was just making sure no poisonous beast had bathed in it recently, since he didn't have a better way of checking if the water was clean he drank one mouthful after making sure it didn't smell like poison. The best thing to do would have been to boil it and he knew that but all he was allowed to bring during this examination was a dagger so he had to take the risk.
