Chapter 6 - Galactic Odyssey

Tons of questions were fusing through Sam's mind but the most important one we're about his own safety so he asked.

"What are you planning to do by transferring your consciousness inside my body?"

[Oh you don't need to be worried about your safety, I was just bored after so long and I thought it would be fun to find someone to accompany.]

[If I trust the memories I downloaded from your brain you need to become stronger and to make money ?]

Sam was chocked, how could this A.I be this developed and to what extent could it probe into him? He started doubting if he had made the wrong choice as there were things in his memory that even his brother-like friend Edward didn't know !

[If you don't want me to probe further I won't do it, I can however help you to make money and get stronger.]

[That's very easy. I have extremely advanced knowledge of technology, medicine and tons of other things that could help you, although my creator wasn't human he was from a similar species and after analysis it seems like it is compatible with the human body.]

Sam had a doubtful personality from the beginning and so he didn't jump on the occasion to say yes but instead asked more:

[Well it is surely more fun to follow you than staying in this damp and boring cave any longer, on top of that if you get strong enough you might be able to give me a body on my own if you're willing to.]

Sam was really confused and the A.I's answers weren't helping at all but instead were making him develop more and more questions !

[Let's talk about it later, you slept 13 hours after I healed you so you're already late compared to the rest of the examinees.]

"Fuck ! Why didn't you say so earlier ?! I need to start hunting right now and keep hunting until the time is up if I want to catch up !"

[According to my analysis, you could end up in the top hundred even if you started hunting now so I didn't bother.]

Finally after what felt like a week inside these caves Sam was guided towards the outside world by the A.I but on the way out he still had two important questions to ask it.

"Good, I won't have to call you A.I all the time. Then I have one last question, how can you help me become stronger ?"

When Sam finishes asking his question a floating panel appeared in front of him, it looked very similar to a human technology: holographic lens. The lens allowed you to generate a holographic copy of your phone or computer the issue with that technology was that you still needed to use your keyboard and mouse to do anything on your computer so it was quite useless which made him a little bit uncertain about what Mechy was doing.

- Quest.

- Inventory.

- Shop.

- Status.

- Settings.>

"Is this a game?"

Sam looked annoyed, he felt like Mechy was mocking him and so started walking again.

[I'm not joking. My creator did me this way, he was a genius in the ways of the technology at the time but didn't have much time to train his body and become stronger, he created me to make his ascension to the top easier but died before he could even use me.]

Sam felt some sadness in Mechy's words but he thought that A.I's could never feel emotions and discarded that thought, he however stopped again and started analyzing the panel in front of him.

"What should I do then ?"

[Well for the moment how about opening the starting pack in your inventory? Simply focus on it.]

Sam did as he was told and focused his mind on the inventory and it really opened, he was now certain this wasn't a human technology ! There were similar technologies amongst the humans but you had to go through a brain surgery to get a chip inserted in it to make it work and Sam was certain he had never got any brain surgery.

The inside of his inventory had 50 slots and only the first one was filled, it was a small gift pack blue in color with yellow ribbons. Except that at the bottom right of his inventory he could see a GD sign with a number next to it.

This made Sam even more confused as that number was the exact number of Galactic Dollars he had saved in his bank account !

He got an answer before he even had the time to ask.

[Human's technology is very behind, your bank was pretty easy to hack.]

Which made him sigh, he was starting to believe that the species who made Mechy was on another plane of evolution!

Finally he decided to open the gift pack and focused on it, as he did that a pop up appeared in front of him just like the menu panel.

Beginner gift pack.

Yes. No.>

"Yes."

And even though he used the wrong method by answering straight up the gift still opened with a little fanfare, confettis appeared on the screen and even fireworks were exploding in the background !

"Isn't that an exaggeration...?"

A second later the fanfare disappeared from his screen and the gift pack had been replaced by a few other items.

[Focus on them to see what you can do.]

Once again he did it and a next to the first item that looked like a potion in a vial appeared a list of three choices:

- Use.

- Inspect.

- Destroy.>

Seeing the list Sam thought of something.

"Mechy, can I put stuff from the outside world in the inventory ?"

He thought it was fantasy but still asked just in case, Mechy had already done lots of magical things and so he didn't think it was completely impossible.

[That will be possible later, you first need to become a second grade evolver.]

"I see, then I will be able to store, inspect and destroy items straight from this system. Isn't that an OP ability?"

Even Sam started feeling like he was in a game, he had played some recent VR games and he didn't feel too much difference between his situation and playing those games.

Finally he decided to inspect the vial:

This small vial contain a very unique liquid that can make the person who drink it become stronger in one field of their choice.>

Sam didn't lose any time thinking and just pressed , he thought it would just disappear and he would gain something but the vial really appeared in his hand, it was filled with a shining green liquid that didn't look really tasty.

"How the fuck is this possible ? Am I losing my mind?"

[There is no point digging your brain this way, human technology is too behind for you to even start understanding how I work, you'll only make yourself tired.]

Sam could only roll his eyes at Mechy and opened the vial to smell it.
