They spoke a bit more. Zeeth asked about the future, trying hard to avoid talking about his past and still learning about what he will do.
"The angel said I shouldn't tell you too much about your future from my time as well because it could make you lighthearted and whatever. But she was really serious about it, she repeats it at the end and start of every conversation so it's gotta be important. I can't tell you much, but I can lead you to the right areas to get you stronger. Jarlon was a great place to get started because you get to join the Vasaleus and learn about society without it making such a huge impact. This is a town on the outskirts, no one really important will get a bad impression of you. The first place that we will go to is a-"
"Wait wait wait, this is cool and all that you wanna help me, but I want to stay in Jarlon. I want to build connections here, make myself something special. I believe that you're from the future, but I don't just wanna leave. I want to live here just like Afir did. He made it sound so fun. And I think there is a lot that I can do here to get stronger."
"Yes, but not enough. You have to get stronger at a pace that's never been seen before, and I know you can. And staying at Jarlon won't get you there, you didn't stay in Jarlon or any town for that matter much either in your other life. Besides, Jarlon didn't get to live that long. I'm not sure what happened back then, but it was destroyed shortly after I met you. When I met you, it was right after you had escaped the destroyed Jarlon and you were so heartbroken I didn't ask about it. You looked ready to explode the moment I dug deeper so I only learned that it was a massive underground based animal that destroyed the town. I just forgot about it and never asked about it again. Until now when the angel reminded me. So, before you're destroyed again, why were you so attached to this town?"
"I'm not sure. I don't think destroying anything from here would make me so heartbroken. Maybe if they destroyed the Vasaleus and killed Kelle, Norman, and Will?"
"That seems unlikely. The Eight are in control of that secret base, I'm pretty sure no monster could even enter their base or kill those three. Their members are all thoroughly protected while inside the city or even near it. The only times a member of the Vasaleus has been killed recently was if they were roaming the world far from the reach of the Eight when they are sure of their strength."
"Then I have no clue."
"Maybe it's about something you've never done before. Try and think about what you would do if you hadn't met me."
"I would go look for Kelle, Norman, and Will. oh, come to think of it, I need to meet up with them soon. I need to sell Kelle my tentacon."
"Oh, yeah the tentacon. I wasn't actually there to see that in my past life, I didn't come through this forest. My dad had died a while back, but this time I saved him. I just wish I could've gone far enough back to save my mom."
"What happened to your mom?"
"She's been afflicted with the curse of Biomez. A grand dark wizard of the past who invented a spell that would make someone immortal, but they would forever lose their mind, their body wouldn't be that of a living being anymore. She is in a perpetual state of dying and living. Basically, she's become a Zombie. And it's so hard on us to watch her lulling around in a confined room. She's not even human anymore, her skin looks like a rotten pear and she doesn't recognize any of us anymore. She just mutters random syllables nowadays.
We couldn't even find a solution in my past life." He bit tightly on his mouth, seemingly on the verge of tears.
Zee patted his shoulder, trying to soothe him. "Oh!" He reached into his slime suit and pulled out his cup and had Leaf pour some water into it after recondensing and dropping a few leaves that he took from the forest.
"Whenever I feel down my master would make my food. I don't have any food for me so I can just give you some tea. This tea is really good."
Page looked at him for a bit, confused by his actions for a second. But then his face softened and he smiled. "Haha. Thanks. You used to make me a bunch of food back then as well whenever I got mad or anything. You still got that table?"
"Yup. Right here."
"Woooah. I haven't seen it like this before."
"What do you mean?"
"Oh, nothing. Also, you need to keep in mind that although I have a full future's worth of information, not all of it will go exactly as it did in the past so I'm not omnipotent."
They spoke a bit more to fill up the 200 styrs worth of time and left. Zeeth wasn't sure what to think about him. He didn't seem to have any bad intentions. Not yet, anyway. The thought that he had time traveled and they lived a whole lifetime together was still something he had to get his mind around.
Page had far more memories of their time together than he did and it didn't make for a perfect dynamic duo. He felt he needed to know more about Page to even it out and feel more comfortable around him.
By now, it had turned dark outside and he ran to the general store, glad to see that the three were still there waiting for him.
"Hey, it's Zeeth!" from the distance he could see Will drawing circles on the floor, just like when he was shot down that first time. He seemed to have spoken too much again and incurred the wrath of Kelle's words.
"Zeeth, I bought you a CyCone. Wait, is that Page?" Norman pulled out a blue star-shaped frozen treat. Frost lightly spilled from the sides and made it look really mystical and pointed at Page.
"Yeah, how do you know him?"
"We met at the Vasaleum before, he helped us find some furbows. Sorry for not getting you one, Page, we didn't know you were coming."
"Nah, it's fine, man."
"Oh, so you guys already know each other, that makes it a lot easier." he took the Cycone in front of his face, unwrapped it, and said, "Thanks. What is this?"
"Really? You've never had these before? They're one of the coolest things this town has, they don't melt until you channel in some ice magic to break the bonds. See, totally counterintuitive. You would assume you need heat to melt it, but the heat just strengthens the bonds that hold this thing together. Ice magic makes it brittle and easy to eat."
"Oh, thanks. Wait so people who can't use ice magic can't eat it at all?"
"Yup. Unless someone can melt it for them, but ice magic comes best from the lips, so it's not a good choice to have someone touch your Cycone and feed it to you."
Norman bit the top off his sword-shaped Cycone and mumbled through a mouthful of food, "Besides, who can't use that little bit of ice magic? My affinity is with lightning and even I can use enough to eat this thing. 5-year-olds could do it from their lips."
"Yeah, haha.'' Thank goodness Afir had taught him how to use basic magic, or he would look like a fool now. Magic had been one of the hardest things he had to learn, but he got the hang of it really quickly.
But he had only been taught the basics, how to conjure magic. He was simply taught that magic runs through a body like blood in veins and he could willfully make it move through certain areas and change its affinity, but he wasn't taught how to properly control it yet; so when his lips touched the Cycone and he tried to conjure up some ice magic to shoot it out, he had shot out way too much, completely destroying all the bonds holding it together and having it slowly melt down the stick and onto his hands.
But what little bit that did get in his mouth tasted wonderful. He tried to save the other bits that were melting down but he could only get back so much and had to wash some away.
Good thing no one else noticed since he stood in the back as they walked to the address where the tentacon was being kept.
He gobbled up the rest of the cone and found in tiny writing near the top "winner!"
