"Three… two… ONE!!" They jumped up as high as they could go, pushing their arms as far as they could reach, and launched Kanna into the air. It went all the way to the mama tensions eye, its pupil moved to look at the baby tentacon and they all looked up expectantly. They wanted the mother to reach up and hold the child. Just as the mama tentacon lifted a bush-tipped tentacle, seemingly to lightly catch its baby in the air, it launched forward and crushed a couple of buildings behind them. Kanna rapidly fell to the ground, but Kelle and Norm caught it with telekinesis and lowered it to the ground safely.
Kelle looked dejected, "Why didn't that work? Doesn't it want its baby?"
"I'm not sure, but we don't have much of a choice now, we need Zeeth to go calm it down." Page stared at the giant creature, careful not to look away in case it suddenly attacked them. "Zeeth, I can get you up there, but you will need to do as I said. I'm afraid it's the only way other than having it kill more people as we wait for professionals. I know we can do it, this doesn't need a skill level. I will throw you up, Kelle and Norm will help eject you, and your little buddies near your feet can build up a bit and bounce you higher as well."
Zeeth knew he meant his slimes and quickly understood his plan. Page strengthened his arms and legs and crouched down, ready to eject Zeeth. Kelle and norman, although tired from just pushing themselves and throwing a tentacon as far as they could, also got ready on each side.
Kelle looked determined to push out another burst of energy, "I'm not sure why you want us to launch him up onto its head, but this is life or death. If you're so sure, I'll trust you."
"Ain't got no other way anyway." Norm stretched a little and also got into position.
Will stood awkwardly to the side, hoping he could help somehow, but all of his skills were simply useless.
"On three! One, two, three!" they all yelled at once, and on two, Zeeth jumped on and puffed up his slimes just enough to make an impact but not enough for Norm and Kelle to see, shooting Zeeth high into the air, even higher than the baby tentacon.
He almost flew completely off, but at the last moment as slime reached out and grabbed its head. As he steadied himself on the massive, purple, and squishy head, he realized his heart was racing and his limbs were trembling with nerves and fear. He flattened out a small slime so he could sit on it and calm down. He shot a stream of water from Leaf onto his face to cool off. While waiting for his heart to stop racing, he let out a stream of water from Leaf onto its head as well, hoping it could calm it down. He always found that a nice splash of water helped him. But by now the water was a much greener color than before. There was a slight bit of blue left on the edges, but the center was dark green like leaves on a tree that faded into a grassy green near the edges. The massive amounts of water he was making out of mana were pouring down the head, but it didn't seem to be calming down as it continued to crawl, ignoring the water which splashed to the ground.
After noticing that his heart rate had gone down drastically, he climbed off the slime as he shrunk it and laid his entire body on its head, and closed his eyes, trying to make himself peaceful and soothing. Just as he laid down, he started to drift off. His eyes went blank and he entered another memory.
It wasn't a continuation of his last memory as he wanted. This time, he was being tucked into bed by the same mother who was just held, hostage. She looked the same, this must've been shortly before the attack. But as she was tucking him into bed, she pulled out a book named "The Strange Elf."
She started reading the book and this was the first time he heard her voice, such a loving and soothing voice. "There once was a village of elves." she shows him a picture, a massive forest and in the center was a bunch of trees with small houses built upon the branches from stone and other sticks.
"They were beautiful people, and a very nature-loving village, they wouldn't dare cut down a tree, they even protected them!" she showed him a picture of a tall, slender person with pointed ears hugging a tree.
She continued on with the story, it was about an elf born in the forest, but instead of growing tall and slender like the other elves, it was short and beefy, making the other elves ostracize him. Even his parents disowned him and sent him to live with others. But in the end, this beefy elf was able to lift a massive stone to save the village elder and everyone respected and cherished his differences.
She finished the story and folded the book shut and placed it on his child's shelf. She rubbed his hair and kissed him on the forehead as she tucked his warm blanket around him. The warmth that she showed him made him feel so good and happy that he couldn't help but smile, trying to hide it with the blanket.
He suddenly snapped out of the memory, but he closed his eyes and tried to continue it, making his own versions of what happened next. But his happiness and calmness seemed to also spread to the tentacon that he was still laying on.
Its massive eyes became a little smaller, its movements slowed until it stopped moving completely. Its massive eyes started to droop and eventually closed. When they opened again, the pupils had seemed calmer. Its eyes were no longer darting around, looking for things to destroy. Instead, it was looking at the baby tentacon near the ground and reached one of its tentacles to grab her. It slowly lifted Kanna up to its eye and gently placed her on top of its head, right next to Zeeth.
It seemed to know that Zeeth was on its head, but it felt it was fine to leave him there because he was who brought them back.
Zeeth decompressed a small slime under him so that he could sit up and look at the city from even higher than the city walls. A cool breeze brushed past him as he viewed the damage it had caused. All the houses within reach of the tentacon were flattened and in a pile of rubble. There were massive marks on the ground caused by the tentacon whipping and dragging its tentacles along.
He couldn't even see the other end of the city, the walls on the other side were just in view as a small speck. The tentacon carefully pulled back, trying to avoid causing any more trouble. Zeeth climbed down the face and hopped back, Kelle and Norman lowering him carefully to the ground. As he fell down he noticed that where the water had landed, new plants were coming in. They weren't growing fast enough for him to see, but the plants clearly weren't there before since the floor was destroyed by the attacks.
Norman went to him immediately, "That was so cool! How did you do that?!"
Will looked at him with wide, happy eyes, "Why did it suddenly calm down? Did you have a massive tranquilizer?"
"You would need a tranquilizer the size of a kangaroo to calm that down, of course not!"
"Zeeth, I told you you could do it. So, what happened up there, do you know how you did it?"
"Yeah, I just felt really calm and happy and it seemed to spread to the tentacon."
"It must've felt how calm you were through its heightened nerves. Did you know tentacons have-"
"Will, not now."
"Why?"
"People are coming. Emma's with them." they all seemed to get ready to attack, but stopped when they noticed the tentacon retreating.
Emma was the first to notice them and said to the people in uniform behind her, "Go help the search and rescue team! Find everyone!" After everyone else departed she walked up to them and said, "You five, what happened here?"
It was more of a command than a question, but Kelle, Norman, and Will were eager to tell her the story, "well, we first tried to give it this baby-"
"Get to the important part, Zeeth helped calm it down by getting on-"
"She needs the full story! Well, it came here for the baby and we tried to show it to them-"
Emma held a hand up to stop them, "Wait, who did WHAT? Someone jumped on its head?" She asked furiously, but no one wanted to rat out Zeeth.
But that wasn't necessary. He explained, "I jumped on its head to calm it down."
"Yeah, but it wasn't just him, we all helped get him up there so if you're punishing him, you have to punish us too!" Will seemed really nervous but he still tried to stand up for Zeeth.
"I want you all in my office, pronto. But first, help clear the rubble and find people. Kelle and Norman, you should be able to help a lot. Will, get to the highest point and search. The rest of you, do what you can. Come to my office at 5."
"Yes, ma'am!"
Zeeth curiously asked, "Will, what does she mean? What skills do you have?"
