The three occupants of the house stood in a circle and looked down at the baby in the basket which looked uncomfortable for the baby.
The staff had left, despite their protestations for her to stay and explain what this was all about.
She had simply said, "We found her outside the building this morning. She was crying loudly. And then, there was this note beside her," She handed the note to Mia, who read it out.
"Hand baby to the occupant, Mia Lucas." Mia scoffed.
"What the hell is this? Who is this baby?" She asked, still in shock as she looked at the baby who was only a few months old. The little girl's eyes kept darting around and she was smiling at nothing in particular.
"If you were a man, I would have said this was your baby from one of your ex-girlfriends. You know, like it happens in the movies?" James said.
Mira suddenly gasped. "Is she Leo's?"
The thought of that alone made Mia's heart drop.
"I mean, no one knew you were Leo's girlfriend until yesterday when you went to the party. Since Leo isn't around, an ex-girlfriend sent her to you instead? Son of a—" Mira's eyes darted to the baby and she quickly kept her mouth shut.
Mia paled and her heart began to throb.
"Hey! How can you think that? This baby looks nothing like Leo. And he isn't the kind of person to do that to Mia. Besides, he hadn't been in the country, so where is this baby suddenly coming from?"
"You have a point. Even though he must have hooked up with someone abroad, and that person had decided to send the baby to Mia. But we know Leo is crazy about Mia. He wouldn't hurt her like this."
"Right." James nodded in agreement.
"R-ight." Mia spoke quietly and crookedly.
Leo wouldn't cheat on her. He wouldn't do that to her. There was probably more to this.
The baby began to cry. The three looked down, not knowing what to do with her.
As the cry intensified, James picked her up from the basket and began to rock her back and forth.
He was the only person who knew what to do since he had two younger siblings and watched them grow, unlike Mira, who was an only child, and Mia, who was the last child.
Mira and Mia still looked confused as they watched James try to get the baby to stop crying.
"It's okay. Shhhh... Did you eat something?" James asked the baby softly before his eyes caught something in the kangaroo pocket of the baby's shirt.
"I think there is a note here."
Mia's eyes perked up and she grabbed the note from James and opened it.
'Mia,
I know this is crazy of me to ask from you. But I couldn't think of a better person. Her name is Zee. She is 3 months and 3 days old. She is a pretty girl with a lot ahead of her, but unfortunately, I can not give her that life. You have been doing well for yourself and can be a good aunt and mum to her. Mum cannot take care of her because she doesn't have the resources either. I have left town and I'm going to try to find my life now. You cut us off, but you should not forget that mum sacrificed a lot to raise you and she treated you as her daughter. You can see this as repayment for what mum and I did for you. Take care of Zee and give her a good life. I will make it up to you one day.
PS: I forgive you for whipping me.
Your sister, Mary Lucas.'
"WHAT THE HELL?!" Mia shrieked as she crumpled the letter in her hand from rage.
Mira and James had been behind her reading the letter, so as soon as she yelled, the baby was startled and began to cry again. Louder this time.
James moved far away from Mia and continued to rock the baby back and forth, getting her to calm down even though his face was burning red from anger.
"She has guts! That witch! She has nerves. Ah!" Mia yelled angrily and pulled hair hair, ignoring the fact that there was a baby in the room with them.
"I swear to God, if my father is responsible for this baby, I'll kill the two of them." Mira swore.
It was almost two years ago that they caught Mary and Mira's father having an affair. That witch was good at ruining people's lives. First, it was Mia's, then she moved to the Bills and now she was back with this? To ruin Mia's life with a baby she knew nothing about?
"If she thinks she will get away with it this time, she has something coming for her!" Mia said this angrily before stomping into her room to change out of her clothes.
Mira followed suit.
James looked down at the baby, who had stopped crying, and sighed.
"Why did you have to come through her of all people?"
