The stench of blood flared through the halls as soon as she stepped in through the door. Zia didn't want to imagine what took place or rather she didn't want to see the possibility of her being abandoned once again. It took all the courage she had to take one step after the other, she would have already fallen on her knees if she wasn't trained as soldier. She knew even if she stopped here it wouldn't change anything that has already happened. Soon she stood in the inner hall of her house, she didn't know how she came here it felt as there was no floor beneath her. Her eyes darted towards all the blood that was still spilled their fresh. She saw many bodies lying there, many servants whose head weren't attached with their bodies, some coldly tortured to the point of death. She looked around hastily praying that among those weren't one of her own. But then she saw something she didn't imagine herself seeing in all her life. She ran towards her mother who was lying in the pool of blood, she didn't know if it was her blood or not all she wanted right now was to make sure that she was ok. She fell on her knees and shook her mother who was already gone cold "mom!". But no response she shook her again and again "mom! Mom! Wake up! What happened?! Mom!" but still the body that she held so tightly didn't even move. Zia continued to shake her dazed. She couldn't comprehend what happened. Suddenly she heard someone's shallow breaths, she got up to search for it among all the bodies that were scattered. Soon she found the direction she heard the sounds from, she ran towards it. There were bodies piled up in the far corner where the sounds were coming from. Zia pulled the hand that was moving beneath the piles of some headless bodies but as soon as she realized that the hand, she was pulling belonged to her father she froze. His radiant face came in front of her eyes and as soon he saw that it was her pulling him out of there he gave her a weak smile, she didn't even realize herself when the tears started to flow out of her eyes. There was deep long cut going from his abdomen to his left arm, the blood was still oozing out of it, there were one bullet wound on his right leg that looked like someone pressed on it as a form of torture. She didn't notice that his father was talking to her in his frail voice saying something. "DAD!" Wait... wait Ill press on the wound, you'll be fine I promise!" She quickly took of her own shirt swiftly, she didn't care if she was wearing a crop top underneath, it was only clean cloth she could find right now. She pressed on his wound while crying and assuring her father that everything would be fine while herself wasn't sure if anything would be fine after this, but there were so many wounds that her one shirt wasn't enough. She stood up to run and grab any cloth she could find so he wouldn't bleed out but before she could stand, she felt her hand being tightly held by her father. She looked down on his face that was still smiling at her "listen to me". His voice was so low that she couldn't almost hear it or rather she didn't want to hear what her father would say because she was afraid of what he would say. She wasn't ready for- goodbye. "listen to me Zia. It's important!". The word important prompted her attention from her thoughts, she turned her head towards her father and weakly sat down beside him and looked in his eyes. His eyes were telling her that he was no afraid of death. "you are an obedient daughter who never went against my words, and I am really proud of whatever you have achieved. I know I wasn't an affectionate father, but I do love my children". He stopped and took shallow breaths in; it was excruciating for Zia to watch her father take breaths in like it was his last. "father! Please stop speaking just save your energy I ... I am sure t... the ambulance will be here any minute, please just hang okay". She said while stroking her father's hair. " shhh, it will be fine Zia, I am not afraid" he said in a weak voice. "Zia … he deliberately paused "you have a beautiful sister. Her name is Abigail, she is this cheerful version of you, whenever I see her, she is always either laughing or making jokes" he then let out a weak chuckle. Zia had never saw her father chuckling or laughing in all her life and right now he was laughing for someone that Zia wasn't even aware of. She kept thinking when she had a sister. Did it happen while she was away for 2 years? Or did his father have an illegitimate child with some mistress. But that's not the father Zia knew, the father that she knew was an upright person who would never go against his morals. "we adopted her, Your mother and I". He said as he could read her thoughts. "why?" she said confusion written all over her face. Why would they adopt another while they had her, but the answer came as soon as she thought this? For 2 years nobody knew what happened to her, was she dead or alive? So, it made sense if they adopted another child to continue the legacy of their family, a new heir to their business. "we just couldn't leave everything to the greedy relatives, they would have tarnished everything we build to the ground "he explained and of course she understood what her parents wanted to do but still she couldn't help but feel betrayed that they just replaced her with someone so easily, no she didn't ever wanted to be the heir of business because she had no interest but she never expected her parents to just replace with just anyone. "please forgive your parents. Please understand that it was a hard decision for us, but we had to do it. We had no other choice no one knew where you were, for time being we all thought you were dead, so we were devastated but we had to do something, so we adopted her. She is a good soul; she is younger than you by one year. Please – take care of her and yourself, its only you and her now" he smiled at her; the smile was so sincere that she remained dazed, but it just disappeared as soon as it came. "DAD! Wake up ambulance is on the way, please don't leave me like mom, I need you here! Dad!" but his body was already cold. Zia sat there and just cried silently.
