Chapter 4

"A common hero can absorb one or two origin. On the other hand heroes that can absorb three origins are rare. Absorbing more than three would cause the body to melt inside out from the energy it produces, but looking at her it is almost like she is blessed by the Origin." Raum thought while he observed the Origin that was on Volen's palm.

"I did it! I created an Origin without absorbing any energy from the surrounding!" Volen cheerfully said.

Raum suddenly was confused about what she said. "I thought she can't absorb an origin? Did I just presume it wrong?" he took the pocket watch and checked her magic status which was zero. "This is all wrong… it should raise her magic status after creating an Origin." Raum thought.

"Try to cast a magic from the Origin you just created." Raum said while waiting for any changes on her amplitude status.

From Volen's palm, the Origin started to change color to red and for a short time, sparks that looked like it would start to explode produced from her hands but to no suffice it didn't explode.

Seeing that the amplitude didn't change a bit from the pocket watch, Raum's now was certain that the Origin she created was not from the surrounding but from her inner energy. His heartbeat sped up and he felt he can defeat the demon king.

If I can't take her power, then I'll use her… I don't care about how she did that, but as long I have her I'll be unstoppable… Now I need to think how to hide her from the academy and from the association… Raum thought.

Knowing they would take her and used it for their own self.

Raum glanced at Volen who was still casting a magic from the origin on her palm.

"You can stop now. I'm satisfied from the results." Raum said.

"Yes." Volen responded, suddenly she felt exhausted and almost topple on the ground.

"We should go back to the inn now. We will continue your training tomorrow."

Raum carried Volen on his arm, which seemed she was slowly losing conscious from the exhaustion.

It was already dusk when they reached the inn. Raum brought her first to the room and laid her down gently, he ordered two cold teas on the counter of the inn which was delivered to the room.

I should buy dinner from the old man before he closes down… Raum thought while walking on the street.

First, the street around the inn was dark, as like the building around them was abandoned, there was no streetlamps to give light the street. A stalker can't be seen and shady business can be done here easily. Even if there were patrollers roaming, the smugglers would easy pass behind them, but reaching the end of the dark district, lights filled the street of the market. Lights coming from the streetlamps and shops, it was totally different during the day time where most of the people would sail to the ocean.

How do they keep this place even there is no rules here? Smugglers and gang docks are normal here, and they pay enough amounts to the academy which they send heroes on a quest to protect them. Raum thought while he tried to adjust his eyes from the brightness of the street.

Raum went to the street where the meat stall was, but reaching the meat stall, it was empty.

"Does he close early? He should have a customer even night time. The street here is lively," Raum said to himself, "Nah… he won't have a customer from how expensive he sells his meatballs."

He smiled, recalling he just met the old man yesterday, yet he felt like he already met him before. He entered the restaurant that was next to the meat stall. He ordered a meat stew and a sweet and sour fish for Volen.

The next day, they returned to the forest to practice Volen to control her power. Raum let Volen start to meditate, it was the most basic training to control the energy flowing from the nature through breathing, and allowing to enter and connect to the inner self. But for Raum, he wasn't sure if this would work on Volen. She creates her own origin from her own energy, the reason why her body rejects the origin from the nature.

"Casting a magic while having origin of multiple energy would take a cost on your body, try to create a single origin, this would be the safest way to cast magic without having a consequence." Raum instructed Volen.

Volen cooperated to Raum, she tried to create a single origin but to no success it was the same multiple colored origin. She passionately created origin multiple times, hoping the next try would be a success.

"She can't cast a magic if she can't create a single origin. If she is just like the sun creating her own energy, the sky is the origin.

What should that supposed to mean?" Raum started to get frustrated and pinched his forehead, "What if she is not the sun but the sky, and the weather is her origin. Would that make sense?" Raum thought while he stared above the dark cloudy sky.

"I get it! What if instead creating a magic, you transfer directly your energy to someone or something! Just like when it is raining, they pass their energy to the ground to develop the plants. Same as yours, instead of creating a magic which would be a huge toll for your body, why not enhance something through passing energy!" Raum proclaimed excitedly.

Volen who was meditating was startled from Raum's sudden outburst.

"I'll try." Volen responded even though she was not sure from his explanation.

Raum surveyed the surrounding to try if his idea would work. A sapling with no leaves caught his sight.

"Try it to the sapling." Raum pointed at the sapling.

Volen came close to the sapling and touched it gently. She didn't really know what to do, she tried to focus her origin to the sapling which made leaves spring forth from the sapling.

"Does this mean I'm a controller rather than mage?" Volen asked.

"No, the nature of controllers is to help, because the origins they control are not destructive as the magic mages uses. Let's go to the weapon shop and choose your weapon." Raum gleefully said.
