13. Perfect Match

Later in their house the family was sitting around the dining table as mother brought the dishes from kitchen

Father was setting his plates. Suru was was sitting in front of him passing the glass to her sister on her left.

Mother also sat down on her seat besides the father after putting the plates on the table. Everyone had their meal quietly.

'Suru...' the father initiated the conversation and breaks the silence

'Vijay has seen a suitable boy for you'

As he said those words whole family looked at him mother was concerned as always about this new boy now

'He is based in Norway' father continued

'Works for star electronics' he kept explaining looking at suru

'He will come see you tomorrow'

Everyone kept quiet and listen to him. Suru looked down in her plate. She was anxious to meet any new person with her introvert personality and that too for a marriage purpose.

She seems more and more concerned about this meeting as she took in a bite. It was just out of her league.

suru suddenly realised something and looked towards her parents

'But mom and you are leaving for Tirupati* tomorrow' she said to her father

'Vijay requested me personally... So I have given him my permission to meet tomorrow' father replied delightfully

All were smiling but suru she was getting more anxious now. After all the experiences she had with marriage dates, she was not ready for anymore but she knew how important it was.

'He is a nice guy' father continued with the smile

'IIT*...IIM*'

'...and a brahmin*' father kept talking to mother

He seems so happy while telling about him as to imagine the wedding already

'Even both of their horoscopes* are a perfect match' father assured mother

'But without you two...

My heart doesn't agree' suru pitifully said looking at her parents. In a hope she might be able to postpone this date to another date where she is not alone.

Father looked at her with determination and said

'If things go your way, it's good.

If not, its even better'

Suru looked at him seriously as her sister took another bite seemingly amused. They all were used to this quote by him.

'... because then it's the will of the god' he continued

He got up finishing the dinner to was his hands. After he was gone Suru sighed with disappointment

Suru gave a puppy eye face to her mother as her mother sighed too

*IIT- Indian Institute of technology (top engineering colleges)

*IIM- Indian Institute of management

*Brahmin- It's one of the Varna(caste) specialising as priests (one who pray), teacher (one who teach)

*Horoscopes- Before the weddings the kundli(horoscope) of both bride and groom are matched to check their compatibility with each other

*Kundli- It's an astrological chart representing positions of sun, moon and planets to predict the upcoming future
