A Witness!

- Selina's Studio -

Alfred was looking at Selina's painting when his phone's vibration disrupted his thoughts.

"Hello? Michael?" He answered.

"Alfred, is Bryan there?" Michael's voice had a sense of urgency in it.

"No, he just left to deal with some business. What's wrong?"

"It's about Selina. Remember the mission you were sent to deal with around four years ago? You had to assist our top hackers to hack into the government system to clear out Selina's file? Literally, only her name and basic contact information were left on file after you guys were done." Only those whom Bryan trust enough would be disclosed to this task. Michael was one of them.

"Yes, that mission was a success. Bryan purposely sent us to go. He told me about a group of people searching for Selina, and they were getting closer to digging her up. To prevent anyone from finding out about her relation to him, we had to clear out her file." Alfred recalled the mission immediately since it was related to Selina.

"The time you joined us was the second time this mission happened. The first time I've been on the mission; Bryan had just become the ruler of the underworld. At a young age, he risked his life and secured his position as the leader. At that time, something happened to Selina. I don't know about the details, but it pushed Bryan to madness."

"When he came back, he ordered us to immediately clear her file. The second time was when you joined our mission. That was the only time he gave us an explanation about a group researching about Selina." At this point, Michael decided to tell Alfred everything.

"Something happened to Selina? Wait, no. But why are you mentioning about the mission? What happened?" Alfred could care less about the details. If this was something urgent, then he must find Bryan right now.

"Before Selina jumped, an unknown group of people looked for her and confirmed her identity. They somehow had her childhood picture and asked around. We have a witness who was taking pictures of the area the day she jumped the bridge. There were pictures of Selina being taken away! I'm not sure if it's true or not, so we need Bryan to come and confirm whether the girl in the photo is her!"

Alfred raised his voice as he stormed out of the studio, "You should have gone straight to the main point since the beginning! Send me your location or wherever the witness is! I'll get Bryan and bring him there!"

Hopping into the driver's seat, he hung up the call to dial Bryan's number. After a few rings, he impatiently cut it off and redialed. Finally, Bryan picked up the phone on the fourth call!

"Yo! Bro, where are you right now?!! I'm coming to get you! Selina might be alive! I'll be right there!" He stepped on the gas as soon as he got Bryan's location.

- Hospital -

Selina finished another round of daily checkups. Leaning against her soft pillows, she asked. "Jason, don't you have work?"

"I do. You're my work." He smiled as he covered her with a blanket.

"Tch, joking again? I mean it. You've been going up and down the hospital with me for examinations. Are you sure you could take off work for this long? If you're busy, then you should go to work. I don't want you to get fired and cry to me for responsibility." She teased him back with a grin on her face.

Pouring a glass of water from the water filter pitcher, his lips curled up. He knew she was caring about his wellbeing since he's been sleeping at the hospital for the past month. The secret broke out when the doctor slipped his tongue during the examination. Some nurses even thought he was her husband and asked them about their relationship.

"Fine. Fine. I'm the owner of my own company. I can work at anywhere and anytime I want. How could I leave you alone in this hospital room? Why? You want to shoo me away so badly now?" He handed her the glass and watched her finish it in one go.

Wiping her lips with a napkin, she stole a few glances at Aaron, who was standing behind him. "Oh? Of course not. It's just that hospital bills are pricy and I have no money. According to the nurses, you were the one who paid for my entire medical bill. I know my body well enough to understand how expensive the fee is. If you don't earn more money, I will live on the streets!"

Chuckling, he turned his full attention to her. "If you know how expensive staying here is, then you should give my wallet some thought and get better faster. After you discharge from the hospital, I can stop worrying over every needle shot the nurses have to give you. As for streets, I am not planning on letting you camp outside at all."

"If I don't live on the streets, where could I go? I have no money and identification card with me!" After waking up, she never thought about any of these problems until now. She had nothing with her.

"My house should be better than the hospital. Don't worry, I won't do anything to you. I just want to make sure you recover fully. Once you are capable of finding a job and earning an income, you could move out. You could also continue staying for as long as you like. For now, live under the same roof as me. For the past month and even now, I haven't felt steady one bit. Every time I wake up, I would check to make sure you weren't in a coma."

He took a seat on the bed and held her hands in his. "I've stayed here for the past month. Do you think these hospital beds are more comfortable than my own bed at home? Do you think the hospital meals are that yummy? I'm only staying here because I'm worried about you. So, consider my offer. We're friends, and I promise I won't do anything to you if you move in with me."

"Mm. Thank you for taking care of me. Still, I don't want you to delay any work-related issues. If you really need to leave for a while, you can. There are nurses around if I need anything." Even though he told her that she didn't need to thank him for doing any of this, she still felt it was only right to express her gratitude.

"I know. I'll leave if it's really necessary for me to. As for your 'thank you', I'll accept it. Your best thanks to me are recovering quickly. Understand?" He wanted to stroke her head like he usually did when she was in a coma. Since she was awake now, he decided to rub her head instead.

"Mm. I will."
