The Truth

Although Peter's voice sounded into their ears, everyone ignored him. When Rosanna saw Selina wanting to say something to him, she patted her hand and shook her head. "We have other plans for him. Let him be for now."

Listening to Rosanna's words, everyone directed their attention to Shirley's corpse.

After confirming her death a few times, she was taken away by Bryan's men. Her face was covered by a piece of white cloth to hide her hideous appearance as she was carried out of the underground cell.

Right after the door slammed closed, Eric's attention shifted to Katrina. Behind the metal bars of the particular cell, Katrina was left devastated on the cold ground as her eyes shot resentful glares at the closed door.

Her fists clenched to the point where her knuckles turned white. Slamming her fists against the hard surface below, cracks scraped her dirty hands. Her lips quivered vigorously as it curved unevenly.

"Why? Why did you have to kill her? She was my precious baby! I never had the chance to hold her as a child and only reunited with her! She was my everything!" Katrina shouted as her chest heaved heavily.

She started at Selina with dagger glares. Seeing how Katrina tried threatening his wife, Jason pulled Selina into his arms and shielded her with his arms. With one arm around her back and the other on the back of her head, he blocked Katrina from her sight. "Don't look at pests. Your eyes will hurt."

Selina nodded obediently as she felt her husband's gentle strokes on her back.

"First of all, that is slander. The gangs in the other cell have already clarified the situation. It was Shirley who challenged their leader about sensitive topics leading to her miscarriage and death. As for us, we've only collected the interest from her. She died from committing suicide. She could have closed her eyes to avoid staring at her face. Since she chose the death route, we wouldn't stop her."

Rosanna crossed her arms as Eric protectively wrapped his arms around her from the side. His icy glares were enough to pressure Katrina to shrink her neck. In front of him, nobody could bully his family.

"Second of all, you should be asking yourself why you and your daughter ended up where you are right now. If you loved your child as much as you claim you do, then why did you switch her with someone else's baby? Was it really because of your family condition or were you just jealous of Tracy Han's wealth? The one who spoiled her to this extent were you and the Hans. The person who killed her is you."

"If you taught her what was right from wrong from the start, she might have walked a different path. Don't use lame excuses to shove your responsibility onto others. You're a failure as a mother. You shouldn't be qualified to be one either." Rosanna rubbed the back of her husband's hand as she spoke.

Once she had finished speaking, Eric took out his phone and dialed a number. "You should be quite familiar with this voice, Mrs. Gu."

He put the call on speaker mode. As the person spoke on the other end of the call, Katrina's eyes widened. "Simon...Simon!!!! Where were you all these years?! You signed the divorce papers and left it at home! Why did you leave me with our children?! It was Tracy Han, isn't it? She ruined our family!"

Simon Gu stopped speaking when he heard his ex-wife's scream. Gritting his teeth, he cut her words off. Anger rose to his chest as he mentioned past incidents.

"Shut up! You bitch! Let me tell you what made our marriage fall apart. It was you! After having Bryan, I've noticed the mood swings and insecurities you had. I've told you countless times to take prescribed medication and attend appointments with your psychiatrist. You ignored my words! As for our second child, you know better than anyone how she was conceived."

Katrina covered her ears as flashbacks occurred in her head. Simon took a deep breath before exposing her awful deeds.

"I used to be a manager at a five-star hotel. I was at the peak of getting promoted, but Katrina took my identification and somehow took out large amounts of loans from loan sharks. The reason why she did that was that she thought I was having an affair with another woman. In fact, every woman we come across was a vixen in her eyes."

"She called them inappropriate names even though they literally walked past us. Her insecurity and aging appearance made her more cautious about herself. She suggested she wanted a second child, but I refused. Her mentality was not right for a second child yet. At the end, she drugged me countless times until she managed to conceive our second child. I only found out when she got knocked up."

Exhaling a deep breath, Simon finished clearing up the situation. "I never had an affair with anyone. I was drowned in debt when I realized she had taken millions of dollars from loan sharks under my name. The loan sharks caused havoc at my workplace, and I was terminated. Without a job, I had to stay home all day facing thousands of rejections. Katrina acted as if nothing was wrong."

"Finally, I've had enough and wanted to take Bryan with me. Unluckily, she threatened to take his life if I separated them. Since I had debts to repay and she tried threatening me, I chose to leave. The only person I am apologetic towards is Bryan. But right now, I've paid off the debt and moved on with my life. I have a new family and Bryan is living well. So, bye."

Simon disconnected the call after saying what he had to say without giving Katrina a chance to speak her mind. Tears streamed down her face as she recognized her faults. She wanted to plead and beg him to come back. If he gave her a second chance, she would choose to believe him. Unfortunately, he didn't give her this opportunity.

Looking at Bryan's disappointed expression, Katrina attempted to win his sympathy. "Bryan! Mother was wrong. I wasn't in the right mindset. I promise I'll dote on you. I only have you left. You can't abandon mother. You can't." She shook her head relentlessly.

Bryan stared at her blankly. His lips parted for a while but he wondered what he should say to her. Finally, words came out of his mouth. "When Shirley wanted to dismember me and chop my head off to use it as a soccer ball, where were you? How many times have I warned you and given you chances to change your attitude towards Selina? Have you felt remorse or even done anything to make it up to her?"

"No, because you were focused on your daughter. Being mentally ill is not an excuse for everything you've done. You were an accomplice in murder and other crimes. Did you think I could save you now? Truth is, I can't do that. Because it would be unfair for the lives, you've sacrificed while scheming with Shirley."

"Also, from the moment you were caught till now, there were two words you owed Selina. An apology wouldn't rewind back to twenty-three years ago, but at least it would show that you've thought about your wrongs. Turns out, you still don't think you're wrong. I've long grown tired of being your son and given up too. Ever since I left the house, I've already pretended you were dead."

Celinda took Bryan's hand in hers as she comforted him. He met his girlfriend's gentle gaze and tilted a small smile to let her know he was alright. Slowly, he followed her lead and stepped to the side.

Since everything was all cleared up now, there were no more reasons for her to be here. In the matter of seconds, five guards walked into the cell with a large bucket in their hands. There was a lid taped over the bucket and small splashes could be heard as they moved it.

Katrina thought they wanted to drown her in water. With an arrogant smirk on her face, she lashed out at Selina. "I don't care if I spent twenty-three years in torturing the wrong baby! I felt great making you into my slave! What? At the end, you're just as stupid to drown me like this. You could've chained me and tortured me back for twenty-three years. Hahahaha. You're useless!"

Eric spoke for the first time in a while. "Who said we were drowning you? That is too simple for a wrench like you. Look carefully with your poor vision first."

The curve on her face froze as she took a glance at the splashing sounds below. Inside the bucket, five piranhas were waiting to devour her with their small, sharp teeth. When she saw the active swimmers in the water, she tried struggling to break free from the five guys but failed.

At the end, they tossed her body into the bucket. Her death was considered a quick one as the piranhas shred her bottom half to bones first. As she sank into the bucket, her eyes were lifted wide open to watch her body eaten away by the fishes.

Selina and Celinda's eyes were covered during the entire process. At the same time, Selina's hands wrinkled her top as her menstrual cramps worsened. She hissed in Jason's embrace making him worry.

"Are you alright? Let's go home now. You need rest." He whispered and carried her in his arms. Perhaps because it was the first day of her menstrual cycle, her blood flow was heavy. A gasp left her mouth as she felt her pad soaking up the blood.

"What's wrong? Are you feeling ill?" Rosanna frowned at the sight of her daughter getting carried in princess style. Even if their first night was an active one, she shouldn't be experiencing this much pain.

Selina whispered into Rosanna's ears. Instantly, Rosanna's eyes widened. "You mean you two haven't..."

Selina bit down on her bottom lip and shook her head. After his wife and mother-in-law exchanged a few words, Jason quickly excused himself and brought Selina back home. Right after he left, Michael and Eric asked Rosanna about Selina's condition.

"Our plan failed. We need to go with our second plan if things aren't smooth by the time of the party. Jason told us the invitations were sent out yesterday. The party is in a week." She whispered in a low voice.
