Hungry

"You-" Madam Wang's sentence was instantly cut off by Kyla's speech.

"Old hag, listen up. Let's make this clear. Since the very beginning, you've never been a fan of my relationship with Isaac, and neither did I ever need your support. Since haters are going to hate without a specific reason, having one more is nothing to me. Even if I just stood in front of you and breathed in the air around you, it would make you irritated. Ah, maybe you've reached menopause. Ah, oops- your menstrual cycle probably stopped long ago. That powder foundation makes you age even more when those wrinkles crack on your dry skin."

"Since we've never looked up to each other nor tried maintaining a neutral relationship, I'd rather you look down on me even more. Why? Because the more you look down on me, the faster you'll visit the cardiology department when Isaac and I are doing extremely well without your kind interference. Even if you tried, you'd fail anyway."

"Ah, right. Did you mention doctors just now? I think it is you who needs to have physicians lined up from your house to America because you can't understand basic speech. You've been contradicting yourself every time you put Jessica and Isaac as the topic. They don't want to marry anyone you choose nor give those people a glance. Have you seriously not learned anything in your younger years?"

"Just because I keep quiet all the time, it doesn't mean you can step over my head and trample with my business. Try again and see if I will give you a verbal warning like this or show you what I mean. Because I am not afraid to give bitches lessons."

Kyla exhaled deeply as she said everything she wanted to say in one breath. With a satisfactory smile on her face, she pulled the phone away from her ear and hung up the call. Reaching up, she placed her palm on the sink and helped herself up from the floor.

After rinsing her face and cleaning up the mess she made, she walked out of the restroom where she dialed Isaac's number. Slouching against the couch, her fingers scrolled down her call log. Almost every call was under Isaac's name was all red. Ever since he left that night after Jason and Selina's party, he hasn't been home.

She sighed as her call was forwarded to an automatic voicemail. "Isaac, call me back. You haven't picked up my calls and it's worrying me. No matter how late it is, just give me a call. Bye."

Rather than staring at her screen for hours like the past weeks, she decided to give her eyes a rest. She rubbed her stomach and wondered what the weird sensation was. Since she wasn't the type of patient who would take any type of medicine unless it is fully necessary, she started tracking her eating habits.

"Mm... Could it be food poisoning? When was my last full meal? Was it that night at Selina's party? Wait, no. Probably even before that. I only drank water and at most ate some oranges recently. But I don't feel hungry. It feels weird, but it's not gas either. Am I even hungry?" She rested the back of her hand on her forehead, blocking sun rays from her eyes.

While caressing her stomach in circular motions, she felt the vibrations of the growl her body had released. "Ah, now I'm hungry. Hmm, what should I eat? Hmm, I still prefer something light, though. Maybe a simple soup and some salad. I think I have sweet corn, lettuce, grape tomatoes, and some grilled chicken in the fridge. Oh! And honey mustard too." She sat up from the couch and listed ingredients off the top of her mind.

As she walked past the dining table, she suddenly stumbled backward. Luckily, the table was in the way, preventing her from falling. With one hand supporting her body and the other covering her forehead, she took a few deep breaths to calm down.

"Shit. I probably feel lightheaded from not eating a proper meal. I should hurry and get something to eat before I really collapse." She waited a few minutes before walking to the kitchen.

In less than half an hour, Kyla stepped out of the kitchen with a plate of salad and a stone bowl of beef tofu soup. Since she had the soup base and suficient ingredients in the fridge, she decided to make the meal in the simplest way possible.

After settling down in the living room area, she picked up her spoon and tasted a sip of the soup. Perhaps it was the fragrance of the food or the fact that she has missed some meals, she found it extra appetizing. When making the soup, she stirred a small amount of spice into it, afraid that her stomach might not be able to handle it. However, she regretted not adding more spices. Personally, she loved spicy food.

The more spoonfuls of soup she stuffed in her mouth, the more cheerful she became. Picking up her fork, she thoroughly mixed her salad before devouring it. For once in weeks, she finally had a good meal for herself.

By the time she finished her meal, it was already late afternoon. After sitting relaxingly for a while, she decided to clean up after herself. As soon as she picked up the tray, her cellphone rang. Placing the tray back on the table, she bent over slightly to grab her phone.

The expectant smile she had on her face froze when she saw the caller ID: Celinda. Shaking her head, she whispered. "And here I thought maybe it was Isaac. Oh wells."

Putting up a smile on her face, she answered the video call. "Hello, love birds!! Oh, and my favorite girls too. What's up?" She waved her fingers at the front camera.
