Anzu woke up on top of something warm. She dozed in her own mind for a bit. Remembered yesterday, and how beautiful the scenery was. She didn't really have many dreams but when she did she enjoyed them. She peeked open one of her eyes, blinking away the sunlight. As they adjusted, she realized she was in the living room. Come to think of it, she didn't remember going to bed that night. The game tiles were spread all across the floor and counter. Kaminari was sprawled out on the carpet, half a blanket clinging to him. It had a strange shape to it, and Anzu had to swallow a laugh. Sero was upside down, sleeping on Kaminari's legs. Mina was leaning against the couch, and Kirishima was on a sofa chair on the other side of the table. His coat was wrapped around Mina. She now realized her and Bakugou were the first to fall asleep last night. Something moved on her shoulder. Her first instinct was to jump, but she realized it was oddly warm. She suddenly realized the situation she was in and grew stiff. She wouldn't dare look up. She could feel the rise and fall of his chest as he slept. She tried to make herself as small as possible. She had absolutely no idea what to do. The last thing she wanted was to wake him up, but the more she sat there the more awkward she felt. Her cheek was pressed up against his chest. She could easily slip away if his left arm wasn't on her shoulder. Aizawa would probably be around soon to make sure everyone was up. She couldn't let anyone see them like this... She began to shakily duck down but to her dismay his grip was too tight. She couldn't even escape when they were sparing never mind while she was trying not to wake him up. Her face grew red. He was... really close. She willed her heart to stop beating but it wouldn't. What would he say? What would her friends say? She could just see their faces. No. No. I can't. I need help. She pleaded silently. Trying once again to slip out of his grasp but failing. She stopped everything the second Kiri got up. This was it. This was the end. He looked over, his eyes droopy. Then they widened as he saw them. He covered his mouth and began to laugh. For some reason it didn't make Anzu feel better. She just wanted to melt into the couch, never come back.
"Kiri stop laughing I need help!" She whispered, hoping he could hear her. Bakugou shifted, which sent her on end. Kiri stopped and wiped a tear from him eyes.
"Dude just move." He whispered back, snickering again. Did it really look that weird?
"I can't! What if he wakes up!?" She asked, hesitantly looking above her. This only made it a million times worse. His hair was messy and he looked so different when he was asleep. She didn't realize it but he constantly had his jaw jutting out. When he slept it grew softer and he looked like less of a murderer. He looked so oddly peaceful. If she wasn't already paranoid of waking him up. Now she under any and all circumstances could not do it. Kiri walked over to her, examining her situation.
"Is his grip that tight?" He asked smiling at her, His hair looked like someone went over it with a rolling pin. She suppressed a snicker too. Kirishima looked so different like that. She honestly liked it. He seemed to find her predicament to be free entertainment.
"I literally can't move my shoulder. He had a hold of my shirt. Unless he loosens it, I cant get out." She explained fretfully. If she could get out of her shirt it would be fine but where would she go from there? His arm would fall, and she would be in a freezing room full of boys without a shirt. She shivered at the very thought.
"Bro I think you're stuck here." He said, trying to sound sad for her sake. In his defense though, this was kind of a funny sight. The spikiest, most bitter person in the class holding onto someone in their sleep.
"No! I can't. If he sees this I'll... ugh." She wined. This was humiliating.
"You're making a big deal out of nothing. It's not like it was a conscious decision." He said, reaching towards Bakugou's hand. "Dude you okay? You're face is like a whole different shade of red." He said, covering his mouth so he wouldn't laugh at her.
"Oh shut up! I just need to get out of here." She barked. Then Kirishima got an idea.
"Let's just make him move his hand for a second and replace you with a pillow!" He said, his eyes brightening.
"And how do you suggest we do that?" She asked, looking skeptical. Kirishima reached out and grabbed a piece of Anzu's hair. "Woah... Wait. What are you-" Kirishima brought it up to Bakugou's cheek. He began to lightly slide it to and fro.
"Wait! Stop! He'll wake up!" She yelled in a whisper. To her absolute shock, his grip released. Her shirt was given back to her and she rolled off the couch without a minute to spare. Bakugou scratched his cheek. Anzu had barely enough time to shove a pillow under his arm before it came down. She sat back, putting her head into her knees. That was the most embarrassing thing that had ever happened to her. She had been leaning against his chest the entire night... She could still smell him on her clothes. She didn't realize how cold it was, until she was out in the open. Kirishima bent down and looked her straight in the eyes.
"It's fine. I won't tell anyone." He took a moment before adding, "And if you ever need a wing man let me know." He winked.
"Shut up! It's not like that!" She growled, flicking him on the forehead. He cackled through his stupid sharp teeth. She could finally feel her face getting cool again. That was emotionally draining. It's crazy how something that simple could leave her adrenaline on high alert. It was good to know she could trust Kiri though. She worried if it was anyone else she would've been done for.
At three o'clock the entire class was beat. After a three hour long hike, two hours of quirk conditioning, and another hour of one on one combat, everyone looked like hell. And Anzu felt like someone had dunked her head under water. Yesterday she felt herself getting sick but now... After this morning it got progressively worse. By about noon she lost her voice, and by three she went directly back to the cabin. Kirishima was sick as well and went back with her.
"Is it always like this?" Anzu asked, laying on the floor.
"Is what like this?" Kiri said, ducking his head in the door frame. He was making tea.
"Being sick? It really sucks." She wined, bracing to sneeze and then losing it.
"What? Of course. Haven't you been sick before?" He asked, clearly confused at the odd question. So it was that common huh? Anzu walked into the room and crawled into bed. It had been five years since her last sickness. She wanted to close her eyes and disappear. She let herself think about anything and everything. She missed the days in the dorms when she would come home and fall asleep on the floor until Bakugou came home. Then they would go train and eat. She felt like he was a completely different person here. She wasn't complaining, she actually like him much better. She just wondered why school made him so... sharp. She couldn't tell if it was all an act. She heard the door in the kitchen slam. She jumped up, looking out the wooden frame. Speak of the spiky bastard, here he was. She flopped back down. Impeccable timing. She was still embarrassed about this morning. She hadn't been that close in proximity to him unless they were fighting. It was so... different. It was soft, and warm. She shook her head. She wanted to forget about it but her mind kept looping it over. She pulled the blanket over her head and rested in the fetal position. Anzu just wanted to go home and forget about the whole incident.
"Hey!" She recognized the voice. Sharper than usual but she really didn't care.
"What?" She said from underneath the blankets. She heard something land on top of her, she jumped and let out a squeak. She peeked out from under the blankets to see a white paper bag. There was medicine inside.
"Thanks." Anzu opened it up. She stared at the package for a moment. "So I just swallow it with water right?" She asked looking up at him.
"Yeah dumb-ass. You mean you've never taken a pill before?" He grumbled, sitting on the bed across from her. She shook her head no. He looked completely dumbfounded. He then chucked a bottle of water at her. "Just try not to choke." Anzu took the pills... less than efficiently. She put too much water in her mouth and they went down the wrong way. At least it was over with though.
"You should go back and ski or something." She said, eyeing him from underneath the covers.
"I'm too tired from yesterday. I'll just stay here." He mumbled, rising from his chair and walking into the kitchen. She secretly wondered if he remembered anything about last night. What if she fell asleep on him while he was awake? She dropped the thought. She was too exhausted to care. Anzu fell asleep shortly after.
When Anzu woke up she could hear Kiri and Bakugou talking in the other room. She couldn't make it out. She sat up, her head swimming. Rising up from the bed, she walked over to where they were talking. She took the blanket with her and looked like she just crawled out of a horror movie.
"You should go back to sleep." Bakugou ordered. She ignored the blonde's demanding tone.
"I'm fine. Kiri what time is it?" She asked looking for a clock.
"It's around five o'clock why?" He questioned. He looked just as bad as her.
"Just wondering... Hey you should get some sleep too. It's bad to keep yourself awake when your sick." She advised. He thought for a moment then got up from his chair.
"Yeah you're probably right." Kiri yawned, showing off his pointy teeth.
"You should both be asleep. You have to train tomorrow and you'll probably get even worse if you don't get rid of it now." Bakugou condemned. He walked over and without flinching slung Kirishima over his shoulder. Kirishima didn't move, just kind of layed limp, his eyes wide. He walked over and slung Anzu over his other shoulder.
"Wait! Stop. Bakugou I don't need sleep I'm fine. Let me go!" She fussed, trying to push him off.
"Stop moving or I'll drop you." Bakugou hissed, looking up at her. Part of her was stuck wondering why he was so strong. The other part of her was angry.
"You're bluffing." She muttered under her breath. She didn't mean for him to hear. To her terror he faked her out. Letting go, letting her slip and catching her again. She squeaked, coming up and grasping his shirt with iron clad knuckles.
"You were saying? He looked back, eyeing her sharply. He wasn't messing around. He dropped them both off in the room.
"Now sleep. I don't want you guys being useless in the group drill tomorrow." He slammed the door shut, causing Anzu to jump.
"I think that's his way of saying he's worried?" Kiri smiled nervously. "Anyway, I'm exhausted. Night Anzu." He said, turning over to face the wall.
"G'night...." She trailed off. She didn't know why she knew this. But somehow she wondered if Bakugou felt responsible. It was his fault that they were out in the snow late at night, but her immunity wasn't exactly the best. It probably would've happened anyway. She turned away but for the life of her she couldn't sleep. Slowly over time the walls and ceilings became boring to look at. Bakugou would probably be roaming about the house, and she honestly wan't mentally ready to talk to him. Her brain wasn't exactly at the height of it's potential. She made a resolve to go out the back door and go outside for a bit. She knew it would be cold but she didn't care. She was tired of being in the stuffy house anyway. It was starting to feel too familiar. She stepped outside, feeling the ice on the balls of her feet. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea after all... but she couldn't bring herself to go back inside. She pulled Bakugou's coat tighter around her waist and sat at the edge of the porch, letting her feet dangle off. It smelled so clean out here. With any luck, Bakugou wouldn't notice her for a while.
While Anzu sat out there the wind picked up. Over the wind she could hear a faint crunching. The others must be back. She thought to herself, moving her attention elsewhere. It was nice to take her mind off of school for once. She could hear the crunching getting closer. At first she didn't care, then it occurred to her. Why would they be coming around the back of the house? Anzu got up, feeling the little ice particles crunch underneath her bare feet and wincing from the cold. When she turned around, she saw nothing. It was odd. She swore she heard the sound from around this area. She could even see the fresh boot prints. Anzu was in the middle of turning around, when a hand clamped around her mouth. She was yanked close to someone. Someone unfamiliar. He smelled like a smoker. The grip around her mouth tightened until it became painful.
"Say one word and I'll burn you to a crisp." The voice whispered behind her. It was venomous, like a snake. Anzu had no time to waste. She recalled back to the thousands of times Bakugou had done this drill on her. She reached up, gently messing with the hand, distracting him. She then placed her right food behind his leg. She hadn't realized till now how tall he was. When everything was set in place, she made a move. She locked her hands together and jammed her elbow into the assailants chest. She shoved her fist up, hitting his straight on the jaw. All she had to do was push, and the momentum sent him back, forcing him to trip over the leg she had placed behind him. She tore off her bandage. It wouldn't be like last time. She wouldn't be ready. Anzu would win. The person layed on their back. He didn't make any effort to get up, a poisonous snicker overtaking him. The closer she looked at him... The more she saw it. He looked like a doll, sewn together at the seams. His hair was soft and black, but certain spots of his skin were purple and corpse like. All the purple sections were held together with little, intricate, silver staples. And piercing blue eyes. His black trench coat was sprawled out on the ground underneath him. He was a sight to be held.
"You think you're slick?" He asked eyeing her from the ground. He smiled, his eyes growing wide and crazed. Anzu lurched back as a cloud of blue fire swarmed in front of her. It frayed the tips of her hair, and her shirt. She could feel a horrible sensation of her hand, as she was burned. It felt like her hand was being crushed with something hot. She bit her lip to keep from crying out. Her feet began to grow numb being in the direct snow for so long. "If I were you... I wouldn't try to fight back. I could fry you with the flick of my finger." He said, his tone unnaturally dull. "Oh look you already did the work for me. The gauze would've been a real pain to get off." He said, twisting around her like a snake. "I wonder what's so special about that pretty eye of yours." He wondered, tracing her jaw with his finger. Her body screamed for her to do something. "So I'll make you a promise. If you don't use your quirk to defend yourself, I'll burn you and leave you for dead." He said, wrapping his hands around her shoulder. His intimidation tactics were far better than the fake Bakugou that was now a distant memory. So he was here to do what the other one could not. She wouldn't give in. She couldn't. If they found out... Aizawa would be furious with her. "Come on. I haven't heard you say anything. Do we have a deal?" He inquired, his tone a sickening pitch. Anzu felt her heart pulsating under her chest. She would have to move. She had to. Maybe if she could just shut off enough that she wouldn't kill him... But what if he had backup?
"1..." No.... I can't decide I'm not ready yet. She began to grow frantic. She would have to make up her mind. She needed thirty seconds of eye contact in her left.
"2...."
"Wait!" She pleaded. She whipped around. She had to look above her to get into eye contact. She didn't have a choice. What good would she be if he killed her? She had to do it before she changed her mind. Anzu opened her eye for the first time in the cold weather. It was fogged over and she could barely see anything. She willed it to happen faster. Thirty seconds would take too long.
"Would you look at that." He said, squatting down to her level to look at her eye. She jumped back, keeping eye contact but he caught her by the shirt, not letting her get out of arms reach. She silently counted to herself, could feel the blood pumping through it. "So tell me... Are you going to use it?" He asked cocking his head. She still wouldn't say anything. She just stared at his eyes. Somehow... they reminded her of someone she knew. She couldn't quite place her finger on it. Someone she met in the class... was it... "Todoroki?" She thought out loud. The person in front of her jumped. His eyes grew... and a mix of emotions she couldn't hope to describe filled them. The most prominent being bitter. That name meant something to him. She had no time to figure it out. Her quirk was ready. She forced her eye into the constellation faze. She could see them. Billions of little connected lights. She focused on the most important ones. First she would remove actions of the arms, legs, and abdomen strength. She slowly removed all his support. And one eye for good measure. She had never shut this much off at once. Chances were that it would end quickly, and she would feel the repercussions later, but she didn't have much of a choice. She left the phase and closed her eye. She could feel a small trickle of blood roll down her cheek. Her legs and arms felt like they were on fire anyway. Her assailant collapsed to the ground.
"The fuck!?" He asked, grunting as he hit the ground. His face twisted in pain. "So that's it huh? You just keep limbs from working with that weird ass eye of yours?" He asked through grit teeth. She had no way of knowing Kurogiri was watching the entire thing from their base. All she knew was that she had to get help immediately before it wore off. Her legs were shaky and felt like they would buckle soon. She half ran half dragged herself to the door.
"Bakugou!" She yelled slamming the door open. He jumped, dropping whatever he was holding. "Come here hurry up!" She yelled running back out the door, and around the deck. Bakugou close behind her. To her terror... she could see the final remnants of a portal closing. Kurogiri. She should've known. She shouldn't have taken her eyes of of him. How could it happen so quickly? Everything. Gone. All that was left was the burn on her hand. The only evidance.
"Damn it!" She yelled, punching the wood railing. She swore she wouldn't let it happen again. And now... they knew. They knew what her quirk could do. Aizawa was going to kill her. She bit her lip till it bled. Bakugou was standing behind her.
"What's wrong with you!? How did you even get out here!?" He asked trying to grab her shoulder and turn her around. She shook him off, thrusting her shoulder backwards. She gave him a look she knew she would regret later.
"Never mind." She growled, walking back into the house. She wiped the blood away from her eye and put the gauze back on. Despite everything she was still weak. Despite everything she was still making mistakes. And despite everything she was still just an animal being manipulated for her abilities.
