Again With The Rabbits

Unexpectedly, as soon as the darkness of sleep took him, he found himself back in the plain. For a moment, he refused to believe.

'Is this going to become a regular thing? Is this going to become the nocturnal flight of Eric Sophis into Wonderland?' as he thoughts ran away with him, Scylla gave the equivalent of a slap.

"Ouch. What was that for?" Scylla sent him a feeling of disbelief then played out the feelings one should feel in hostile territory.

"Right. Killer rabbit unicorn hybrids." Eric stood from his position on the ground and looked around. "This place looks familiar but when everything looks like everything else, I should be looking for unfamiliar things right?" Scylla shrugged and directed Eric to begin walking.

After walking for what felt like half a day, killing the odd rabbit or 2 in his path, Eric finally heard the sound of rushing water.

He doubled his speed to reach the breach in monotony of grass and more grass. He could practically feel the water. Even if this water had been the only benefit to be reaped from these trips, it would be well worth it. With his inventory, he could easily bring in a large tank, dump it in the water to fill up and transport it back.

Yes he could feel it. The availability of water would make selecting which of the Sophis compounds to convert into a base a simpler matter. He could do it. He could solve half the crisis that plagued any base.

He could also fall down another hole because his hair was simply a douche that had no interest in the concept of mutual interest if it got in the way of its joy.

He briefly heard a hiss before he landed at the bottom of the pit. The poor owner of the pit, a young snake getting ready to go out into the world and experience the art of sowing oats bit the intruder that had crushed a part of its body in vengeance before this rude intruder grabbed it and then suddenly, no matter how much it inhaled, there was a distinct lack of air.

Once the snake bit him, Eric knew there was a chance he was going to die again. Not only did he have no idea how potent the snake's venom was or even it's symptoms, but he couldn't even harvest the poison gland.

As he looked through the loot he noticed that the poison gland was part of it.

"I should have realised something like this would be part of the loot." he mumbled to himself. Scylla seemed to want the poison sack and although Eric wasn't sure about it, he decided to give the symbiote what it wanted.

Of course, he'd wait until they were back in his home. For now, he had to find his way out of the pit. It was looking more and more like Eric would have to climb out. While the young adult was mulling over the thought, he realized something and smacked himself in the forehead.

Couldn't he make footholds with the horns and use those to climb out?

"Sometimes I wonder why you're capable of thought if you're going to leave all the thinking to me." Scylla would have scoffed if it could.

It took several attempts before Eric managed to find good spots to plant the horns but once that was done, it was smooth sailing.

Before long, he had left the snake pit and was back in the grassy terrain. He began walking cautiously while scanning the ground for more holes.

It was during his walk that he realized how miraculous it was that he had fallen, twice, into deep holes and would have come out of them unscathed if not for their occupants.

"Maybe I can't be hurt by falls in here?" he tried asking Scylla but the hair symbiote did a poor imitation of a shrug and Eric sighed again.

Before long, Eric came across what he deduced to be a rabbit school. It had one large rabbit squeaking and twitching and waving its ears while 7 smaller rabbits watched attentively and one tried to discretely play with a nearby butterfly.

Eric took a moment to think on what to do. The rabbits were cute and he preferred not wasting lives if he could help it.

On second thought, a rabbit did kill him the previous day. It would be ungentlemanly if he ignored a good chance to vent. Or prevent a repeat of last time. That sounded less petty in his ears.

With such thoughts, Eric steadied himself then grabbed some horns and threw them at, first, the large rabbit and one of the larger rabbit students.

Chaos descended as the survivors tried to escape from the evil creature that had just killed their teacher and classmate while said creature hunted them down.
