As Nie Li began his rant Ryu turn to the beautiful maiden next to him. Clearing his throat he caught her attention and stretched his hand out to reintroduce himself to Xiao Ning'er in attempt to at least gain a better status than desk mate.
" Hi I'm Ryu, nice to meet you.~"
"Mmm, I'm Xiao Ning'er."
With a simple nod of the head she introduced herself. Realizing she ignored the handshake but gave a simple yet slightly cold answer he retracted his hand in embarrassment.
" What's it like to live in Glory City?"
" It's fine."
" Ok, then how...."
After a few minutes of going back in forth like this with Xiao Ning'er yet only getting simple quick replies Ryu finally called it quits and decided to wait until he finds a chance to mention her illness to get closer like Nie Li did in the original novel.
Deciding to pay attention to class for a bit he realized that a few students were missing yet Shen Xiu continued as if she didn't notice... finding it strange he looked around only to find a group of six standing at the back of class. 'If I remember correctly this is where Nie Li gets punished standing and then that arragont b*tch starts her rant about how they won't get anywhere and how the color of their soul realm defy their status like who's cannon fodder and who gets protection. In other words a plan to disturb everyone's mindset so they won't have any hope to cultivate by themselves and force them to believe getting close to the bigger families is the only way they will gain any sort of strength. '
Sure enough, a minute later she began.
"After being tested, among the students in this class, Ye Ziyun, with a cyan soul realm, has a soul force of 86. Shen Yue and Xiao Ning'er both have a green soul realm, with a soul force of 78. They will soon reach 1-star Bronze rank. Congratulations to them!" Shen Xiu lightly said. Her gaze fell on Nie Li for a moment. This is real talent, what's Nie Li compared to them? Little did she know the person she's mocking was going to destroy her family.
Listening to Shen Xiu's words, the students in the class all cried out in surprise. A cyan soul realm, with a soul force of 86! Such an amazing person is actually in their class. With such powerful talent, she's got the chance to become a Legend rank Demon Spiritualist in her lifetime!
In this world, or in this city to be exact, the color of a persons soul realm defines a persons talent toward cultivation from the lowest being red then orange, yellow, green, cyan, azure and indigo being the highest. Red means they have no hope of becoming a demon spiritualst, orange and yellow are suitable to train soul force, green and cyan are talents worth protecting and grooming. But what they don't know is that soul attribute and form are what matter more.
Ranks are slightly seperated into two as their are fighters and demon spritualists. Fighters are those who have "no talent" or little soul force train their bodies in order to gain strength. Demon spiritualists "have talent" and are able to train or gather soul force which in turn helps stregthen their bodies without any of the physical training. Now ranks go from the lowest rank which is bronze to silver, gold, darkgold, legend(being the highest they have ever gotten to), demigod, and finally spiritual god/heavenly fate realm being this worlds highest. Spiritual god and heavenly fate realm are placed together as its possible for people to go from demigod rank to either spiritual god then heavenly fate realm or from demigod rank to heavenly fate realm. In order to go down the former path one must have the highest understanding of a law in order to become a spiritual god. Although thats easier said than done which is why many choose to go down the latter path.
Back to class....
Shen Xiu looked towards Nie Li with contempt in her eyes and spoke in a disdainful tone, "As for those who claim they can reach 1-star Bronze rank within two months along with low talent, I want to see to what extent they can actually reach!"
*cough*
With a slight cough Ryu caught everyone's attention as he stood up and began to speak.
"Low talent isn't decided by the color of someone's soul ream miss Xiu. What decides who has low or high talent is the soul attribute and soul form although their are cultivation techniques out there that defy such "rules" so what truly defies low or high talent is the dedication someone has to cultivation and the will to train."
Thinking that Ryu was trying to defend Nie Li she began her rebuttle, " And what evidence do you have to prove your statement?"
" Its very simple really, using a soul crystal like normal but instead of paying attention to the level of soul force look into the crystal and see what form you can see and what colors you see coming from that form are the attributes of a person. With this technique you will be to choose a cultivation technique more suitable for you."
With that being said the bell rang and everyone left in a hurry to go test this theory although the ones who rushed out were mostly commoners and lower ranked nobles with "poor talent".
....
Meanwhile in the back of the class a group of six were talking about earning a million demon spirit coins ignoring the rest of the class... all but one person ignored the class that is.
Nie Li didn't want to listen to class as it was something he already knew and deemed not important so he began to converse with his group about earning enough money to get a million demon spirit coins.
As they began to plan Nie Li overheard Shen Xiu's comment and was about to retort but was cut short by a slight cough. Turning to look at where the cough came from he noticed Ryu standing up as he looked at Shen Xiu. ' Hmm I don't remember him being here last time much less that strange name...looks like I or the temporal spirit book may have altered the past.'
-- a minute later--
' He knows about soul attribute and form! Who is he?! Could he be an enemy of mine that I accidentally dragged back or is he an enemy of the sage emperor...?' Before he could decide what to do about this the bell rang and noticed many students rushed out. When the class was less full he noticed Ryu wasn't at his desk anymore and was long gone. ' I need to find a chance to confront him about it.'
