MOTHER
Ling Fen entered the room in low spirits. She did not know that simply looking for a job would make her meet her biggest enemy in this lifetime.
It was true that Ling Wen was her sister but they were from different mothers.
In order to marry Ling Wang, her mother even defied her grandfather's orders yet it was as if that old man foresaw the future.
Her husband not only cheated on her with another woman, he even made her pregnant and that child was Ling Wen.
At first, it was Ling Wen who was sent by her mother to stay at Ling Wang's side.
Ling Fen easily made friends and it was this one-moment blindness that led both her and her mother to the streets. Three days later, the mistress was allowed back home.
Ling Fen sat on the bed and reminisced on these memories that were harsh. Meeting Ling Wen today had opened up her eyes to what was wrong but it had also brought with it an inexplicable pain.
Ling Fen also remembered the first time she had met Gong Xu, it was on a rainy day yet the sun was also still up.
His clothes were tattered and he fed from the bins. Back then, the boy was scrawny and had nowhere to stay. His parents had abandoned him so her mother took him back home and that was when he became her brother.
Come to think of it, he was not a blood relative yet he treated her best.
"What are you thinking about?" A mild voice interrupted her thoughts.
Ling Fen looked up and stared at the door where her mother was standing. She wore simple garbs yet they looked extravagant on her body.
Even with all the suffering, they had passed through, not a single thing had changed about her mother.
"Nothing." She answered as she pat the place next to her beckoning for her mother to go over. Her mother burst out in laughter and then went over.
"You don't have to worry." Her mother placed her head on her lap and then patted it softly.
"Gong Xu already told you?"
"Yes."
"That big mouth" Ling Fen cussed.
"Who are you calling a big mouth?"
Gong Xu was standing at the door with his brows furrowed while staring at Ling Fen.
Ling Fen's mother laughed and beckoned him over too.
"You too can fight when I am away but first let me tell you something."
Gong Xu moved and sat next to her. Ling Fen's mother smiled at this. Ever since she had picked up this boy, he always acted cautiously around them and only opened up after a long time had passed. Seeing him be this playful warmed her heart very much.
"Oh! Before I forget, Gong Xu ah, don't you think it's time for you to stop calling me madam?" She mouthed while staring directly at him.
Gong Xu blushed.
"Then what should I call you?" he asked with a never seen innocence.
"What do you think?" Ling Fen's mother asked.
Gong Xu stared as if confused. He looked at Ling Fen and the other just smiled warmly at him then stared at their mother.
The word 'mother' was at the tip of his tongue yet making them come out was a bit of a problem.
It was not that he did not want to say it, the word just felt foreign to him and he did not remember any good memories when the word came to his mind.
"It's alright if you are not comfortable or ready." Ling Fen's mother said softly. Her tone pulled on his heartstrings and before he knew it, the words rolled out of his mouth,
"Mother"
His blood family had thrown him out without a second glance and God gave him another so why not hold on to them.
He said again as if he was afraid the first one was not heard,
"Mother"
His tears gushed out as he pulled the two into a tight embrace.
