She's special

"Honk..." Jackson signals the car ahead of him to ride faster, except his effort was of no use. The driver kept driving beneath the speed limit on a road that barely had traffic. Eventually, the policeman pulled him over, and Jackson speedily drove past the driver. He arrived at his job site a few minutes late. Jackson enters the building called Tech and Knowledge, where he works as the vice president.

The sunlight flashes on the surface of the glass building, presenting it bright and energetic from the inside. There was stillness within the atmosphere. Although the company had hundreds of employees, a pin drop could create a loud noise in the hall. Jackson walks toward the front desk.

"Good morning, Kate. Can I have hot chocolate for my donuts?" He said to an elegant and beautiful lady.

"Pleasant day, Sir. Sure, it will take seconds to fix." She replied, moving from behind the desk and heading toward the kitchen.

"Thank you!" Jackson shouted while walking toward his department. He proceeded to his office, entered, and closed the door. To his confusion, seated behind his KEFA executive desk was his boss. Jackson did not feel anxious about being late to work, nor did it disturb him that his boss was in his office this early.

"Hey Steven, why are you in my office?" Jackson asked, an attractive and stylish fellow. This person had a built figure, long legs, pure skin, and artistic green eyes.

Jackson laid his donuts on his desk next to his documents. He ignored the suspicious expression his boss had on and sat at the edge of the table. Steven grabs the donuts and munches on them. Jackson did not react, and that worried Steven. He had known Jackson for years, and now he seems sad. Most mornings with Jackson are impressive, yet today he acted differently and appears stressed.

"You are an overbearing man! I sat here questioning how gray and long my beard needed to grow before you report for work." He replied, laughing.

Steven understood that Jackson looked upset. Even his stupid joke can not comfort him, nor lightening his mood. Jackson doubts that Steven's brain was operating correctly. He had consumed most of the donuts while chatting nonsense.

"Steven, state your mission, and later get out!" Jackson shrieked, and Steven seemed stunned. But he didn't appear offended.

"Straight to business discussion. What is disturbing you this morning? Plus, it is not early if you are reporting to work at this hour." He replied to his friend's impolite remark. These guys have had their fair share of arguments, but never in a thousand years has Jackson spoken to him in this manner.

"What business do we need to handle? And sorry about the way I spoke just now." Jackson asked with a low pitch. Suddenly, Steven backed away from the desk and cornered Jackson, with a ridiculous change in his expression.

"Great...! Here is the problem, there is a party tonight, and I need a plus one. That's where you come in. You are my plus one!" he said.

Jackson realized that being your boss's friend from college is an impressive deal. However, they are buddies from Harvey University, but in recent years they became brothers.

Jackson smiled and said, "Plus one regularly involves some hot chick hook on you for the night. Why do you want me?" Steven knew that Jackson understood him well.

"I know everything you are considering, and you stay correct. However, the club party is regularly full of ladies. I do not need some chick by my side, spoiling my chance to get ladies' numbers. Tonight I am a bachelor, and the ladies are my targets." Steven told his friend.

Jackson stood amazed at how Steven changes women as he replaces his underwear.

"Sorry, dude, unlike you, I am married. Jennie is arriving home tonight, and I need to be home earlier. Still, I wish you the best on your ladies hunt," he said, ridiculing Steven, who was downhearted by his friend's response.

"Knock, knock…" Kate waited at the office door holding a mug. "Mr. David, here is your drink." She called out to him, and Jackson permitted her to come inside. Kate walks in and rests the cup on the desk, then leaves immediately.

"I guess she overheard something not intended for her ears. Enjoy the last donut, man. I envy Jennie, for finding a treasure like you still, I am happy, you found your life partner. Though I dislike sharing you, the rules do not apply to her. I love you, and for the last time, I am not gay!" Steven said, and walked out of the office. Watching Steven's shadow fade into the hallway, Jackson begs that life will fill those holes that the past dug into Steven's soul.

Steven walked out of the building for some fresh air. He hates being the unattached friend. The guys who could get any woman but could never keep a serious relationship are the ones Steven hates the most. Although Steven understood that he is no different from them, and he does not have the right to shun them. However, he remembered how Jackson did not blame him or judge his character. Because they knew about the nasty breakup Steven went through.

He appreciated the fact that Jackson is the reason he became successful. And seeing Jackson in this miserable state breaks his heart. People don't decide to become damaged individuals. Various happenings in their life cause them to forget who they are, why they are alive, and how to love again.

"Pardon me, sir. I am sorry for bumping into you." A lady's voice said while Steven tried to figure out what exactly happened.

"Uh," he replied.

"Julie over here!" A voice calls out from the taxi to the lady.

She smiles at Steven and walks away. Her smile did something to him and made his heart race for the first time in a long time. Love, at first sight, does not exist in Steven's mind. However, that lady touched a part of him that died a long time ago. At least, he thought it faded after all these years.
