Unspoken desires

Julie eventually opened her eyes when her alarm rang for the fifth time. She knew that it was Monday, and the interview was today. Julie took a deep breath and removed the sheet from over her. And when about her morning routine. After Julie's shower, she sat in front of the mirror in a white robe and did her makeup. Julie first used a Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Long Wear Foundation on her face, applied her mascara neatly and rubbed some lip balm on her lips.

Next, she dusted a lightweight mineral powder over her foundation, drew her eyebrows with a Pencil Eyeliner for a Softer Look, added a brown slightly gleaming shade on her lids then blended some depths brown tone on the outer corners of her eyes. Lastly, Julie wore a navy blue blazer with a gray blouse, khaki pants, and black heeled shoes. She did her finishing touches by plaiting her hair into two braids, grabbing the black bag off the hook, and hanging it on her shoulder. Then Julie went downstairs to have a morning meal with her parents.

"Good morning, my beautiful baby girl," Mr. Harper said to Julie as she took her seat. "Good morning parents, if you must know, I got an interview for a job today!" She told them and ate her toast. "Is it with that gentleman I overheard you talking with various times on the phone?" Her mother asked. It was not surprising to Julie when she found out that her mother had been listening to her calls. She had always known that Mrs. Harper had a habit of monitoring her conversations with guys.

"Yes, mother. Plus, his name is Steven," Julie answered. Her parents seemed astounded to hear their daughter talking about a fellow with them. Julie went private after her tenth-grade tragic episode. She became distant from everyone, mostly guys that took an interest in her. So at that moment, when the opening presented itself, Louis and Harriett took this opportunity to get a clear understanding of Julie and Steven's relationship. "Are you guys lovers?" Mr. Harper asked straightforwardly. "No, dad. It is a complex situation. I need to get going. I don't want to be late for my interview," she told Mr. Harper.

Julie finished her breakfast, said goodbye to her parents, and headed out of her house. "Wow, she's enthusiastic about that interview." Mr. Harper said. He did not understand how his daughter could eat her food within five minutes because of an interview. "Harriett, do you think your daughter left in a hurry because of my question?" Mr. Harper asked as he puzzled over how Julie gobbled up her breakfast. "No, honey. It's not about the job or your question. But the man behind the interview." Mrs. Harper said to her husband. However, he did not get her comment. 'It's complicated to understand women.' Louis thought to himself.

The cab stopped at tech and knowledge, and Julie got out. She steps into the building and approaches the lady at the desk in the lobby. "Hello, I am Julie. And Steven is expecting me," she explains to the lady. Kate left from behind the desk and told Julie to follow her. Steven had given Kate direct instructions that morning to take Julie to his office when she arrived. Kate stops Julie at Steven's office, opens the door for her, and closes it behind Julie when she enters the office.

Steven had his eyes focused on a document before him, and he did not notice Julie standing close to him. "Hello, sir. I am here for my interview." Julie said, giggling at the serious expression on his face. Steven raised his head, stared at her, and moved back a little. "Wow, you scare me. However, you have already passed the interview. You can start working as my manager as of today." He told her. Steven then removed his glasses and looked Julie straight in the eyes to make her recognize that he was not kidding.

Still, Julie started laughing so loud that Steven got worried and questioned if he had said something stupid. "Do you take my education as a joke? I don't need a handout from you? Do you believe I am not capable of getting a superb job with my degree? Why did you insult me with this disrespectful interview? You already have a manager!" Julie yelled at him. Steven looked startled and impressed at the same time.

"Fine, I will fire my manager." He replied. Julie did not answer, yet her face looked mad, and Steven knew he had given the wrong response. "That is not what I intended. I did not mean to insult your intelligence unintentionally. I am sorry for the mistake. But I swear this is not what I want." He pleads with her. "Then what do you want?" She asked, folding her hands. Steven dropped his pen and closed the document. Then he clasped his fingers together.

"I want you to act comfortable around me. I want to learn and understand everything about you. And if that means firing my manager to have you closer, then I will do it. I know it is selfish, but I am not regretful about this decision. Please, don't ask me why because I don't get it myself. But that is how I feel, and it makes no sense, I know. However, tell me I am not the only one feeling this way because this is insane!" He answered firmly.

Julie became speechless. She had the words on her lips, yet her heart could not permit her to speak her mind. "I feel the way you do. I want to be there for you, and I get jealous when another woman calls you hers. I crave to share your laughter, pain, and life moments. I wish to be next to you when you wake up and go to bed." These are all the things Julie wanted to say. Instead, she said, "If you find me an actual position and not some made up one, then I will accept your offer." Julie did not plan to make the same mistake twice. She realized that her heart did not feel stable enough to love again.
