The biggest surprise of her life

Working hours flew by quickly, and it was five o'clock on the dot. Steven and Julie had an afternoon date, so Jackson did not have to drive Julie to their residence.

He arrived home and turned on the lights. As the house lights up, Jackson feels bitter inside. History had repeated itself, and Jackson was again a lonely married man who remained devoted to his wife.

All Jackson always wanted was to become a man that his father never was and care about his family like his father never did. But sometimes Jennie makes it so hard for him to be that man. He has been so lavish with his wife, allowing her to do whatever she wishes and empowering her to get away with her bad habit. And now he wonders if things were going to be different if he had been a little like his father.

He dropped his keys on the sofa and went upstairs to Jennie's and his bedroom. When Jackson entered their room, there was nothing but loneliness in his eyes and heart. He sighs, approaches the bed, and casually sits on the edge of the bed.

"Jennie is such a neat freak. Sometimes I wonder if she loves tidiness more than me." Jackson said with a smile as he gazed around the room, admiring how clean and well organized the place was. Then his eyes caught a file on the bed. He reached out for it, opened the folder, and JFC company Incorporation appears spelled out in the document's title.

"Jennie must have left it in a hurry to get all her things in the bag. I still can't believe Jennie forgot about the document. I mean, it was the reason she took this trip in the first place." Jackson wondered as he looked through the papers.

"Buzz!" Jackson's phone rang, and he answered it.

"Hey, man. What are you doing?" Steven said.

Jackson put the file back on the bed and walked to his closet. "I am packing for a brief trip to England." He replied as he took three shirts, four pairs of trousers, some socks, and underwear.

"Wait! You can't leave the country now!" Steven said.

"Why not!" Jackson asked. He took a mini suitcase and stuffed his thing inside it. Jackson scanned around the room to see if there was anything else that he needed to take with him.

"Chris called and he will be arriving in the country tomorrow. Chris will be meeting with us at noon to get the document signed for your project. Jackson, your dream is about to become a reality, and you can't just leave the country and run after your wife!" Steven stated.

Jackson giggles a bit at his friend's statement as he places the folder over his stuff. Jackson felt fulfilled that he was about to sign the most important contract of his life. However, Jackson still did not want to cancel his trip. He felt like Jennie needed to hear his excellent information in person, and he also wanted to see her reaction when he told her the news.

"I am not rushing off after my wife. I know that I have been distant today, and I am sorry. But I swear to you that Jennie and I are striving to make our marriage healthier again. We even decided to have a kid by next year. I am going to England because Jennie left a significant work file, and I need to get it to her." Jackson replied as he zipped the suitcase.

"Can't you do that the day after tomorrow?" Steven asked.

"Sorry, but I can't. The document that Jennie left behind is important, and I don't want her to face embarrassment because she forgot to bring it along with her. Tell Chris I have to travel out of the country, but I will try my best to return home in time for us to sign the papers. Then we can hit the club and celebrate with alcohol. How does that sound?" Jackson stated.

"Go to your wife. I will handle Chris. But you have to punish yourself with three shots when we go to the club tonight. You and Jennie are getting on my nerves, but I love you guys. Have a safe trip and get back here in time." Steven replied, then sighed.

"Hahaha! That sounds good to me. Thanks, brother. I love you too." Jackson replied. He then ended the call and made another call to Kate.

"Good afternoon, boss. What can I do for you?" Kate answered.

"Kate, I need you to please book a first-class ticket for me for this evening," Jackson explained.

"Okay, sir. Please hold on while I do so." Kate stated.

Jackson patiently paces back and forth as he waits on Kate to get it done. A few minutes passed, and Kate replied. "Sir, your ticket is ready, and you have a night o'clock fight this evening."

"Thanks, Kate," Jackson said.

After his call with Kate, Jackson gazed at his packed suitcase and rearranged it. He reduced his trousers to one and left only a simple t-shirt. The suitcase seemed half-empty with only those few things in it, so Jackson switched to a smaller bag.

Since there were still two hours in Jackson's favor, he took a brief nap, and when he woke up, it was eight on the dot.

Jackson grabbed his stuff and left the room. When he got into the living room, he collected his key from the sofa and hurried out the door.

It was now eight-fifty-three when Jackson received a call from Jennie.

"Hey, babe. I have arrived in England. What are you doing now?"

"I am on my way to you."

"Stop kidding me. What exactly are you doing?"

"I am driving."

"Okay, babe. I'm about to settle into my hotel room and when I get done. We can talk tonight. I love you."

"Okay, hubby. I love you too." Jackson replied and put his phone away, feeling excited that he was going to give his wife the biggest surprise of her life.
