Blood Soaked Dawn

"Attention everyone." A voice buzzed into my ears through the loudspeakers as I slowly opened my eyes.

"This is officer Henderson." The voice announced. "I want every one of you to leave your cells and head out to the courtyard." Then the loudspeakers went kaput.

"What the hell does that prick want from us at this time of the day." Andrew said angrily.

I slowly sat up and rubbed my eyes for a couple of seconds. Then I looked out of the cellar windows, it was still dawn and the sun was barely visible. I knew officer Henderson was getting us relocated however, no one else knew of it other than myself.

"Relax it's probably something important." I tried to calm Andrew down.

Andrew and officer Henderson never really liked each other. For some reason they always got into arguments which would always lead to officer Henderson yelling at Andrew.

"Let's go, we don't really have any other options." I said.

Andrew got up as he mumbeled somethings under his breath that I couldn't really catch but it was probably something bad about officer Henderson.

I could barely walk on my own having been thrashed the day before by Ordell. Yesterday I was struggling to even sit let alone walk.

We made it through the big gate and out to the courtyard. Most inmates were already out so we just stood behind the crowd.

"Where is Sergei?" Asked Andrew.

"In there somewhere. We will see him eventually." I said.

"Attention here please." Said officer Henderson through a speaker that he was holding in his hand. "Yesterday something happened that I personally never saw coming, it was sad to see so many people die for no obvious reason. We had been treating you the best we could yet for some reason most of you thought it was a good idea to run a riot against us. I was contacted by the warden, Richard. I know he hasn't been the nicest around here but I'm certain that other security members were not bad. So today I decided I wanted this prison to contain less inmates and prisoners. I normally don't like mentioning the term 'prisoners' but today I had to. So in order to contain less inmates and prisoners we have to relocate some of them to a different place. Now every person who is going to be relocated will be taken by a security guard to the busses we have prepared for today. I wish things didn't have to come to this point, but this was forced on me." He said as he had a wide smile on his face at the end.

The smile concerned me more than anything. 'Why did he smile? What is funny in what's happening around us?' I thought to myself.

Security guards started flowing in and taking some people with them and leaving others behind. Two huge guards came to escort me and Andrew. The guard's grip was so tight on my wrist I could feel the blood stopping from flowing to my hand.

"Do you mind?" I said as I pulled my arm with force but to no avail.

"I do. Now move before you get in trouble." The guard said angrily.

"OK just lossen up a bit jesus. I can't feel my hand." I said.

"Just shut up and don't act soft. Where you're going you need to be tough." He said as he looked at me in disgust.

I will admit I wasn't the toughest nor was I the tallest so I was in no way going to wrestle my way out of his lock so I just complied with what he said and silently and painfully followed him.

We kept walking for another ten minutes until we reached the busses. There were eight busses which didn't really match the number of people who came. About fifteen busses would barely be enough for us.

Officer Henderson followed shortly after us. He came with some army soldiers. I didn't have the slightest clue as to what was going on.

He told them something and they started separating us to two sides. Thankfully Sergei and Andrew were on my side but way behind me.

Officer Henderson had his arm up the whole time as they were separating us, as soon as the soldiers returned to his side he brought his arm down.

I will never forget this moment because of the sheer terror I was in. The other side got rained with bullets as all of them dropped dead before our eyes. I crouched down unwillingly from the shock. Some of them who were behind tried to run to the other side of the busses but as soon as they were out of sight we heard more gunshots. My guess was that officer Henderson was ready for it and he put more armed men on the other side as well.

I had so many questions running through my head but perhaps the most important was that 'Are they going to kill us too?'

It was a deadly silence after the roaring guns stopped. All I could hear was the heavy breathing of the people behind me and my heart beats.

One of the inmates named Trent had turned around out of fear. He slowly turned and saw all the bodies on the ground, he gagged and took two steps away from us and started throwing up. A guard came up to him and hit him with the butt of his rifle.

"Man up. Get your shit together and join your people." The guard shouted agressively.

"Don't worry gentlemen you won't be treated like that." Officer Henderson started with a smile. "Now off you go, get on the busses." He continued as he waved us away.

"But sir why did you kill them?" Trent asked.

"It's simple. Because they were invlolved in the riot in one way or another." He went serious. "Now go before I change my mind about you lot too." He said in slight anger.

We started getting on slowly, I went and found Andrew and Sergei so I can be with them in one bus. They were shaking from the shock.

We got on together and sat in the back row. Also this whole time our hands were cuffed so even if we wanted to escape we wouldn't be able to get more than ten feet away before getting shot.

The scene was so brutal and they did it so cold heartedly it was disgusting. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw officer Henderson shooting at them in cold blood.

"Listen to me everyone. What you saw just now won't be mentioned anywhere you go for the rest of your lives. Just act as if you never saw what happened." The driver said.

I saw everyone on board nodding out of fear. They were scared that they would get shot too so they just nodded without thinking.

The driver started the bus and the engine started roaring as we hit the road.

It felt refreshing not being in a cell but after what I witnessed today I kinda wished that I stayed in that cell.

'What has this world turned into, human lives so priceless, being taken in such ways.' I thought to myself.

"Everything is going to be alright." Said Sergei to me and Andrew.

"I sure as hell hope so." I replied as Andrew nodded.

'Now I have to know where we are going, because I no longer trust these people.' I thought as I saw the sun fully rise and beam through the windows of the bus.
