Matthew | Police Station (FB)

(Daniel's POV)

"So, how long have you been in the UK?" I asked Matthew.

It had been about twenty minutes since we started the trip. We realized we were in Enfield, so there was about 4 hours until we were in Manchester. Andrew already fell asleep and so did Jenna.

"Seven years, excluding the two after the disaster, so in total nine years." Matthew explained.

"What made you come here?" I was curious.

"I came here looking for my mom, she was originally from London, she abandoned us when we were kids, so I was living with my sister, brother and father."

"What happened afterwards?" I asked.

"My sister got married to a rich junkie, getting into trouble every other day. My brother moved to New Zealand and got himself a nice life there. I, however, stayed with my father until he died of cancer aged about sixty. He gave me whatever money he had before dying, so I booked a flight to the London, in hopes of finding my mom." He got emotional.

"Did you find her?"

"I did, but I guess it was a bit late, she was already married and had two kids. At least she seemed happy." He said as a tear escaped his right eye but he wiped it away quickly.

"I'm sorry for all of that, but what made you stay in the UK after that?" I asked.

"I was eighteen, I liked London better than Arizona. So I decided to stay here, I got myself an apartment for myself and found a job with the money I was given by my father, so I was quite happy." He said with a smile.

"Glad you liked it here, most local folks don't really like London."

"What is there not to like, it is all there." He argued.

"I like all the places, but Manchester has a special place in my heart, because I was born and raised in Salford, Manchester. So, naturally that place feels more like home to me than any other." I said.

"I've never been to Manchester, I can't wait if I'm honest, to get there that is." He showed a bit of excitement.

"Yeah, I guess." I said as the half-smile I had on the whole time wore off and I started to think.

'What if the whole city is ruined, how will we get to the building, I still don't remember the codes, or even know where it can be, the documents, they need to be in the right hands, what if someone got there before me?' Thoughts filled my head.

I was most worried about the documents, Ben simply must not have them, by any means necessary even if that means destroying them instead of reversing the effects. If he got his hands on them by now then it was simply the end.

"You look thoughtful." Matthew said as he burst my little bubble.

"Uh... what.. yeah, maybe." I struggled to form a sentence.

"Whatever it is Daniel, it will be okay in the end." Matthew said.

"How do you know?" I raised a brow.

"Because if it isn't okay, then that means it's not the end." He smiled.

"Dripping wisdom Matthew." Aiden said from the front seat quietly so he doesn't wake Andrew and Jenna up, but also loud enough for us to hear.

"It's something I have seen from experience Aiden, never write yourself off." Matthew responded.

"True words Matthew, but that needs a lot of determination."

"You don't lack it, Daniel." He smiled.

It was weird, I had a very good feeling about him, he sounds good and is acting nicely to everyone, something about him may be off though.

"Thanks Matthew." I said as I turned back to see out of Andrew's side.

After being deep in my thoughts again, Andrew started snoring so I gently punched him under the belt.

"You prick." He snapped as he grabbed his crotch.

"That is what I used to get when I was snoring in our cell." I smiled.

(Three Years Ago)

"How can I help you officer?" I asked as I extended my hand for a handshake.

"Please accompany us to the station, we can talk in detail there." He said as he shook my hand.

"Very well, excuse me for a minute." I said as I turned to Spencer.

"You will lead the meeting, find documents on my desk labeled "Projekt-X" and then show it to everyone in attendance, especially Dr. Kross. He needs to see it the most. I also need a detailed summary of everything that happens in the meeting. Written on a piece of paper." I whispered to Spencer as his eyes widened.

"Good luck sir." He said worriedly.

I nodded and went back to the officer.

"Shall we?" He said.

"Yeah, let's go officer." I said as he opened the backseat door to the police car.

I got in and thought of how disappointed Spencer must feel after knowing I'm overtaking Projekt-X. He was already done with it when Ben was around, so this must be a very big blow to him, but it had to be done.

"So what is the matter sir?" I asked the officer as we drove off.

"We are just looking for information about the Gordon's, the family which was found dead last week, we heard they were close friends with you so we had to do out best job." He explained.

"No worries sir, I'm here if it helps you identify the killer." I said happily.

We got to the station after ten long minutes of driving in silence, every minute felt like an hour because I was anxious about may happen at the meeting.

"Please follow me inside." The officer said as he opened my door. I nodded in silence.

I followed him to one of the interrogation rooms, he got in after me and closed the door.

"Please, have a seat." He said.

I took a seat then he sat across a small table from me, a few papers, documents most likely, were on his side of the table, a small light hanging from the ceiling was the only thing lighting an otherwise very dark small room.

"So." He said as he brought his hands together on the table. "I'm officer Henderson, and I'm taking a look at every possibility for the Gordons' case, I hope that won't be an issue."

"No, it is for the better of our city." I smiled.

"So, last Friday, where were you at seven in the afternoon exactly?" He asked as he took a look at the papers on his side of the table.

"I was at my house, with my fiancé." I said.

"Are you two living together?" He asked.

"Yes."

"Will she say the same if I bring her in?" He looked up at me.

"Not word by word, but yeah, she will tell you the same thing." I responded.

"We won't bring her in Mr. Hughes, because you are very well-known and we don't want to drag this longer than we have to, just a formality." He smiled.

"I understand, we are here whenever you need us." I smiled.

"Feel free to leave sir." He smiled back.
