The Gate

"You went a little deep there, didn't you Andy?" Matthew said with a smile.

"You son of a bitch, I knew we shouldn't have trusted you." Andrew said as the seven foot giant held him back from attacking Matthew.

"I didn't mean any harm, I just wanted to tell you guys myself before you saw anything, but now that this happened I may as well tell you anyways." Matthew opened his arms. "Please, bring them down and let them have a seat there." He pointed at one of the walls on his left.

A group of people came down, they had Daniel, Aiden and Jenna in handcuffs as they put them on the floor into a forcefully seated position.

"It wrote itself in the stars, I get to save the great Daniel Hughes and also get to know what is behind that steel door that no one could open. I wanted it to be calm and civil, but now I had to do this."

"Fine, I will do it, just don't hurt any of them" Daniel said angrily.

"Of course you will, Danny boy." A girl said as she came down the stairs. She was blonde, her eyes sharper than a glass shard, cheeky smile, she had a blue and white striped shirt on, black jeans and sneakers. Her face screamed of unspoken stories and trouble that was never mentioned. She put on a weak yet fake smile. She also had a pistol holster carrying a Desert Eagle.

"This is Abigail. A badass, with a fine taste in music I may add." Matthew introduced her.

Daniel took a long look at her, he knew something didn't add up.

"Right, let me see the console." Daniel said to Matthew.

"After you." Abigail said.

Daniel got up from the floor and slowly made his way towards the screens, he was a bit taken back by what he saw too. He recognized it, but the place wasn't here. He struggled to remember the codes and what the vault contained.

"Go on." Matthew insisted.

"I can't remember the codes."

"Oh, what a shame, but I don't care, you will have that vault opened one way or another." Matthew replied.

"How will I do that if I don't remember the codes?" Daniel shrugged.

"We. Don't. Care." Abigail barged in between.

Daniel had a look of concern on his face, he knew some of the digits, just not all of them. He started to enter the code, slowly, carefully and taking a deep breath with each digit entered, until he stopped, sighed loudly then pressed another button.

The large steel doors shook the entire building as the maglocks started to disengage. The gate slowly moved backwards, with a very bright light shining from whatever was inside.

Daniel seemed taken a back from what he had just done and didn't move, whereas Matthew and Abigail were glaring at the bright room, smiling and eagerly waiting to find out what was hidden inside the vault.

"We have been waiting for this moment for a long time, it's about time we got inside." Abigail said slowly.

Matthew's smile faded suddenly, and he turned his head slowly towards Daniel. Daniel was still shocked from what he had just done, staring at the console controls and not moving a muscle.

The gate came to a halt suddenly, then quickly moved upwards, and then the bright lights dimmed down slowly and then completely turned off. After a few seconds the lights in the long hallway started turning off one by one and very fast. There was only the flashlights from Matthew's people and the flashing screens of the console for the gate.

Matthew started to walk towards the open gate as his stare didn't leave it.

"Stop, let me go in first." Daniel held Matthew's hand.

"I have been waiting for this for far too long Daniel Hughes." Matthew smacked Daniel's hand away from him.

"Look, I need to know what is in there, you can have it after I see what it is." Daniel insisted.

"Let's go in together, the three of us." Abigail suggested.

"Keep that thing pointed at him." Matthew ordered Abigail to keep her pistol pointed at Daniel.

Abigail nodded and took her pistol out, she nodded at Daniel to go in first, which he quietly complied with, he was followed by Abigail and then Matthew. The rest were held back by Matthew's people because they outnumbered them four to one.

Daniel stopped a step away from entering through the gate, he took a deep breath, looked back with a quick glance at Andrew and nodded, then turned to the gate and went in.
