The Counter Attack begins - II

Meanwhile, the rebels were still pouring in the fort through the ladders and the soldiers managed to keep them at bay.

When everything was getting chaotic, Nina and Ruth were sitting on a nearby building rooftop, watching the siege at a distance.

"Hey! So what did you see?" asked Ruth.

Nina was gazing at the fort very carefully.

"I just spotted Amelda at the fort. She is already fighting one of the Rebel relic wielders. I guess my hunch was right, she couldn't stop her thirst for battle."

Ruth unsheathed her dagger,

"Let's go lend her a hand," she suggested.

Nina sat down on the rooftop,

"No need, knowing her she can handle those rebels for the time being. She's the daughter of the commander after all. Insanity runs in that family. Either way, we should stay low and wait for Jacob's signal."

Ruth pouted her face in dismay,

"Come on! I don't wanna sit here doing nothing."

"Alright. You can start searching and marking for the other rebel with relics."

"Great!"

Ruth sat on the roof tiles with her legs folded and started meditating. She has the ability to sense the mana emitting from relic's mana stones. She can find any relic wielder in 5 kilometers in her range. It takes time to thoroughly search for relics and in the meantime when she's meditating she's vulnerable. Hence, Nina was there to guard her.

During the same time, Jacob and Zara were escorted to the commander by some of the rebels. They were taken in the opposite direction to where the siege was taking place.

Jacob was a bit suspicious,

"Hey? Why are you taking me in this direction? Shouldn't your commander be leading your men at the siege?" he asked.

One of the rebels looked nervous,

"Well, you see our commander doesn't get involved in such a small scale battle. He let the lieutenants lead the army in such matters."

Jacob was a bit puzzled,

'That's quite an odd behavior for a commander. I hope this isn't some trap.'

Soon they reached the edge of the city. Almost all the houses and buildings were burned down except for one small house. A lot of rebels were posted as if they were guarding that house. The rebels escorted Jacob and Zara seemed to be heading to that house.

The rebels saw them and raised their guard seeing Jacob and Zara, who both were carrying a giant Axe and a Lance each.

"Hey, no need to be so uptight! They are the backup from the headquarters, they are here to greet the commander." said one of the fellow escorted rebels.

The rebel guards backed away,

"Is that so? But the commander is rather busy." replied one of the rebels posted in an anxious tone.

Jacob stepped forward,

"We came from the headquarters and traveled a long distance. So it would be impolite without us greeting him," he answered politely.

The rebel guards still obstructed our path,

"Sorry but our commander told us to not disturb him-"

Suddenly a scream of a woman was heard.

The voice came from inside the house.

The rebel guards started giggling,

"See that? He's rather occupied at this moment. So just go to the fort-"

"Move," said Jacob as he angrily glared at the rebels.

Zara lets out a sigh as she backs away,

'Here he goes bonkers, anytime soon.'

Although the rebel guard obstructed Jacobs path,

"But I said the commander-"

Jacob shoved aside the rebel and walked inside the house.

"Where are you going! I said stop!" the rebel shouted as they tried to stop Jacob from entering the house.

Jacob turned around and glared angrily,

"I said I need to greet the commander, right now. Don't get in my way."

The rebel backed away in fear as Jacob emitted such a bloodlust. Jacob entered the house while the rebels just watched helplessly from a distance.

"So why is he taking his lance along with him?" asked the puzzled rebels.

Jacob entered the house and heard a wailing voice of a woman coming from upstairs. He followed that voice and walked upstairs. The trail of voice finally led to a room at the end of the passage. Jacob opened the door and entered.

There he saw an old bald man butt naked on the bed with a woman. The woman was naked and bruised quite badly and the old man was on top of her.

The woman saw Jacob stretched her hand,

"Please kill me." she pleaded.

The old man turns around,

"Oh, so you must be the backup from headquarters huh?" asked the old man, "Just wait for a second, I am just about done here. Would you like to go around too?"

In the next second, Jacob swung his lance with all his strength. The old man's head was decapitated in an instant. The head went flying out of the roof whereas his headless body remained motionless.

Suddenly blood started splattering all over the room. Jacob shoved aside the headless commander's body and reached out to help the woman.

"It's over, you don't need to suffer anymore." comforted Jacob.

The woman burst in tears and hugged Jacob.

Meanwhile outside the house.

"Hey! Something burst out from the roof." alerted one of the rebels.

"Isn't it just a bird or something?" suggested another of the rebel guards.

When they got closer, they noticed it was their commander's head lying in the ground.

"Enemies! Those two are enemies!" alerted the guards.

Just when a tiny flame of fire shot from one of the house windows went up in the sky and burst into beautiful blue flames like a flower.

The rebel guards surrounded Zara from all sides.

"Kill her! Her colleague just killed our commander. Traitor!" threatened the angry rebels.

Zara unsheathed her hammer from her back,

"Please stand down. You people are no match for us. I don't wanna hurt you." mumbled Zara in her small voice as usual.

The rebels were confused,

"What did she say?! Nevermind just kill her-"

Just when Jacob came bursting out the house from the 1st floor and landed beside Zara.

"Ganging on a girl? So unmanly." taunted Jacob as he smugly held his lance pointing at the rebels.

"You traitor! We trusted you, and you killed the commander in such a cowardly manner." replied the angry rebels.

"Beheading him was my way of showing compassion. Your commander was a piece of shit. Treating a lovely woman like that, he deserved to die a horrible death. But you people didn't even bother to stop him, that makes you all equally guilty." replied Jacob angrily.

"Kill him!" screamed the rebels as they rushed to attack him.

Jacob turned around to Zara,

"You should go ahead and lend a hand to the other girls. I shall deal with them and catch up soon."

Zara nods her head and heads to the fort as instructed.
