Coming out of my daze, the realization hit me like a bag of bricks. I hesitated when I got to the same bathroom mirror that I had been so excited to look into 3 years ago.
My eyes traveled up to meet the person staring back at me. My hair was back to it's original, dirty blonde and my lips were their original, light pink color. My eyes were still the deep green that I had always loved for them to be. Worried to see how my body had been affected by three years of not needing to exercise or eat healthy, I looked down and was surprised to see that I had filled out well and wasn't "chubby" or "skinny". That pleased me. I couldn't help but let out a little smile.
Then, even though I was pretty happy about how I would've turned out if I hadn't stepped into the MODIFIER three years ago, I remembered what exactly I was doing. With going back to my old appearance, I was giving up all of the priveledges and popularity I had obtained over the past few years.
Maybe, if I had lived anywhere else in the world, I would've been very happy at that moment. However, in Skyridge, I was giving up the only thing that gave me value and meaning; my looks.
I ran to my bedroom and threw on my most ordinary outfit. It was a dark green T-shirt and a pair of skinny jeans with a few rips in them. Slipping my white sneakers, I heard my mom call me down for breakfast.
"Ok, here goes nothing," I anxiously told myself as I started down the stairs.
When my feet hit the last step of the staircase, four sets of eyes were on me, as if they were burning into my soul.
"Hey guys." I said as I naturally walked to the dining table and began eating my breakfast.
"Ok, I hate to be the first person to say anything, but what happened to you?!" My older sister, Kennedy exclaimed. This was the least I could expect from her, as she had already been gorgeous before she used the MODIFIER. Because of this, she simply just used the machine to take care of little mistakes, like pimples or sunburns.
"I decided to change things up a bit. Besides, I would rely on the traits I attributed from my parents over a robot any day." I explained as I shoveled some scrambled eggs into my mouth.
"You do realize that people are gonna look at you weird? And they're going to talk. With something like this, they can't help themselves. They just gossip, gossip, gossip!" My younger sister, Brinley informed me.
"Thanks Brin." I said, not wanting to elaborate on the subject. It was always easier to not argue with her, or any of my family members really.
All of a sudden, a knock sounded at the door. My heart stopped. I knew whoever was at the door would instantly look at me differently. So, I braced myself for the worst and got up to answer the door.
