Later that night, Rainbow woke up from a nightmare. She sat up, breathing heavily in the dark room. She took a deep breath to calm her nerves. She stared at Dimond's bed, it was still empty. Her scream echoed in her mind and she closed her eyes. This was all her fault. Dimond was trying to be a nice cousin even though she made fun of her everyday at mealtimes and with Barry. She still cared about her. Rainbow's eyes pricked with tears, reminding her that she hadn't had a time to let loose yet.
She sat down outside the dorm in an effort to keep the others asleep. Silent tears trickled down her soft cheeks. She'd learnt how to remain silent while crying when she was a small child. If her mother couldn't hear her crying then she wouldn't get punished for it. She opened her fists and saw the area where the magic was still healing her deep cuts caused by her nails. She held her head in her hands, shaking as she sobbed. Then she caught a glimpse of the rubber band on her wrist. The populars had all made fun of her when the nurse had given it to her. She stretched it as far as it would go and then let go, squeezing her eyes as it hit her. It wasn't as good as cutting but it was something.
