Welcome - Rainbow

Rainbow was heading downstairs to the assembly hall for the introductory assembly and welcome back. It was pointless really, they just said the same things every term and made them sit there listening for an hour. Dimond, Barry, Linda, Bradley and Gabrielle were all talking in a group outside the hall and it seemed to be getting heated.

"The head put the stupid new kid in my dorm!" Barry exclaimed, frustratedly as he ran a hand through his hair. Linda frowned and Bradley started laughing mockingly at Barry.

"That totally sucks! But you're still up for tonight right?" Dimond asked, wrapping her arms around his neck and leaning in to kiss him. He noticed Rainbow walking over to the group sheepishly and pushed Dimond off.

"Yeah, course." Barry responded softly, then he turned to Rainbow. "Look what the cat dragged in!" He shouted mockingly. Rainbow huffed and rolled her eyes, as per usual Barry was being an idiot.

"Who's the new kid everyone's talking about?" She asked, trying her best to ignore his previous comment and change the conversation. Barry smirked, knowing that she'd changed the conversation because she didn't have any comebacks.

"Of course you wouldn't know RB!" Dimond laughed, the others joining in with her. Barry grinned, glad that his girlfriend was joining in with their banter. She'd never teased Rainbow like that before and for him it was great. Rainbow frowned and held her arm uncomfortably, unsure of what to say or do. She stared at the floor hoping one of them would answer her question.

The bell went, signalling the start of the assembly, so everyone walked into the hall and found a line of seats at the back. Rainbow followed the others down a row of chairs and was about to sit next to Dimond when she got called out.

"What are you doing?" Dimond asked, immediately impatient with her.

"I'm sitting down next to my cousin?" Rainbow responded, nervously fiddling with her hair.

"I'm not sitting next to a loser like you!" She instantly came back.

By now everyone had sat down and was staring at them. Rainbow's anxiety was starting to spike at being the centre of attention. Dimond was giving her a death glare.

"Ok, fine, I'll go sit somewhere else..." Rainbow mumbled quietly, and headed down the asile a bit and sat on a chair by herself, stabbing her fingernails into her palms until they bled.
