Rainbow felt awful for harassing Gary like that. She kept telling herself that she hadn't had a choice, but the truth was that she had. She had and chose to attack him like that. At least Barry was happy. For now anyway. She walked into the cafeteria to get something to eat and stared at the food miserably. She always had the same breakfast, but at least it was food. Barry came over to her and she stood up a little straighter, obviously nervous as to how he would respond.
"Good job RB!" He smiled and ruffled her hair on the top of her head. She stared at him confusedly, she had told him not to fight Gary hadn't she? Why was he so pleased with her? She smiled anyway, glad that he was happy with her efforts. "I mean I thought you'd gotten over that stupid photo though..." He joked pretending to seem down. Rainbow bit her lip worriedly, had she said something wrong?
"W-what? No! I-I just couldn't think of what to say so..." She tried to explain, her voice breaking off as she tried to comfort him. He grinned again once he had her wanting his approval again. Dimond sighed behind them. Why did he always make her jump through hoops to get his approval? Rainbow put some of the food on a tray and went to the till to pay for it, getting out a special card to pay.
They sat down at the table to eat as the other populars sat down with them, some of them having a second breakfast. Rainbow's phone buzzed and she picked it up and flipped it open, much to the amusement of Barry and Gabrielle. Her eyes lit up with excitement after reading the message, she had a new baby half-brother. Her mother had given birth successfully and was recuperating in the hospital. She smiled.
"My mother just gave birth to my new baby brother." She clarified, smiling. Dimond smiled too, glad that her aunt had survived yet another pregnancy. Barry rolled his eyes dismissively at her news. It was nothing new. Her mother was giving birth every other week.
"Another half-brother?" Barry questioned, highlighting her mother's reputation while implying that her family couldn't take care of the current members, let alone more. Rainbow's eyes dimmed at his comment. It was true. Her family was always expanding, but she was just happy that both her mother and new brother, were okay. She slumped slightly. Barry took a bite of his breakfast and then commented "That's not news. Tell us when she's given up her day-job." Barry laughed at his own joke, and the others agreed with him. Rainbow frowned slightly, realising that none of them actually cared if her mother had survived or not. She wasn't going to try to defend her mother's action, it was true that she could have gone into a lot of different jobs instead of this one. It was a waste of her potential, but it wasn't always that simple.
Rainbow stood up and left the table dropping off her tray in the tray station. She wasn't hungry anymore anyway. She sighed deeply, wandering through the other students who she doubted actually knew anything about her. She bumped into someone and gasped, quickly apologised, and stepped back. Why did it have to be him? Again? He probably thought that she was such a clumsy person... Then she realised that all the nerds were behind him.
"I'm so sorry for earlier Gary, but I've got to go so um... bye?" She mumbled quickly, trying to get away from the group, more specifically, the person she'd hurt. She had to remember that in front of the nerds she was "Rebel Rainbow" not the weak and pathetic Rainbow that she normally was. She grit her teeth and took a deep breath. She could do this! ...Right? The nerds were all watching her and Gary.
"I already told you that I had nothing to do with that stupid picture!" Gary exclaimed frustrated that she was making him look bad in front of his new group of friends. She rolled her eyes in a dismissive way, trying to take away his confidence.
"I guess you're a lier and a perv..." She added, playing with her roughed up nails and then giving him a stern look. "I need to get though here, you're wasting my time." She continued, internally cringing at her harsh treatment of someone that wanted to be her friend. She had to do this. For Barry.
