The Experiment

To everyone's surprise, there was no sudden eruption, splashes… or even anything. The piece of common bread just dropped into the pool of molten rock with a soft, barely audible "thud" and disappeared immediately.

No, perhaps the better description was that the bread started to burn upon getting hit by the occasional rocks that were "jumping" in midair, as well as the falling hot ash. By the time it hit the red magma, it was smaller than a pinky finger.

"That's odd…" Wolfe murmured, putting on a frown. "Why are there different reactions?"

"Because the bread doesn't have any special ability or aura to it," Juin explained as he stood up straight, took a step back from the edge of the volcano, and faced Luca and Wolfe. When Lucifer told him that there was something living in the walls of the volcano and that this thing grabbed the bead that they threw in earlier, Juin started devising a plan.
