Chapter 49

They stared down at the bed. It was empty. They looked around but couldn't find her.

"come on 1, this is not the time to play hide and seek" GMN-6 said

"guys we need to find her. We are running out of time"GMN-7 said

GMN-4 wiped his hand over his face. He was weary and exhausted and may have aged more in the last few hours than his entire life. It was like his brain was on factory reset.

"3 and 7 take the doctor there to…Mr Stone… I really don't know just go, we'll find her" GMN-6 said and they nodded. GMN-3 patted 4 on the shoulder before he left. It wasn't that he wasn't feeling the despair, 1 is his friend and he would even do anything beyond his power to get her back but he could honestly say none of them was feeling the weight as much as 4. he'd make sure they got that antidote even if they had to transplant Dr. Andrew's brain.

"4, you have very sensitive nose. Try sniffing her out" GMN-6 said

"shouldn't this building be wired with heat and motion detectors?" GMN-5 asked

"That's the smartest thing you've said all day. 9 get on it!" GMN-6 said and 5 rolled her eyes while 9 nodded.

GMN-2 patted 4 on the shoulder "we'll find her"

"you better hurry up" the head doctor said. He didn't fully understand what was going on but they had urgent matters to attend to.

GMN-4 took a deep breathe. He had a sense of deja vu. This had actually happened before.

"reduce the room temperature" GMN-4 said "we need the room very cold"

One of the nurses complied. GMN-4 took a deep breathe and followed his nose. He kept going and had to stop because he wasn't exactly trusting where his nose was leading him.

"I really can't detect much there, lots of stuff" GMN-9 said

"then find something you can detect!" GMN-6 said to 9. turning towards 4 she said "if the nose says go then go!"

GMN-4 nodded and continued. He had to move stuffs out of the way to make space for himself and he wondered how she could have gotten here. The temperature change hadn't gotten to this part of the room where they stacked equipment.

He followed his nose going where her scent was stronger. Then he felt her. He couldn't actually see her but he could make her out a little and could feel her when he stretched his hands. It looked like she was trying to cramp herself into the corner.

"I think I've found her" GMN-4 called out to the others. He shook her but there was no response. He called her still no response. She was very hot to the touch like she was having a really high fever. He couldn't carry her out because the space was too tight. He placed her head on his chest and proceeded to drag her out to a place with a little more space. When they got out of the tiny space she had somehow managed to slide into, he lifted her up.

She was extremely light and seemed to have lost more weight in this few hours. He could still barely see her just outlines that were flickering. He needed to get her to the part of the room that was already cold enough. He walked towards the rest.

The rest looked up at 4 who was carrying something or someone they couldn't really see. GMN-6 rushed forward. She could now make out outlines, it was really 1.

"quick put her on the bed" the head doctor called out. He saw the lad carefully carrying something out and assumed it was their missing patient even though he couldn't see her. He had heard of this phenomenon.

GMN-4 gently placed her on the bed. She was becoming more and more visible. The other staff present just starred, speechless. They couldn't comprehend what was going on.

"does this happen often?" the head doctor asked and 4 shook his head in negative.

Just then 7 came rushing in with a syringe. He handed it to the head doctor.

"he said to inject into a major vein" GMN-7 told them

"is that the antidote?" GMN-2 asked

"not exactly. They say it's complex but this should help and buy more time" GMN-7 said but the doctor had already injected 1 with the syringe. She reacted like someone in serious shock.

"what the hell is that thing!!!" GMN-4 was one inch from murder.

"calm down" GMN-7 was saying

"calm down!!?? the bleeding has started all over again!" GMN-4 roared grabbing him.

"that's the effect!" GMN-7 shouted. This guy was becoming more and more unreasonable. "it's trying to flush her blood stream. She'll be fine!" he was still talking when GMN-1 lurched forward vomitting a mouthful of blood.

"is she awake!" GMN-2 exclaimed.

GMN-1 fell backwards staining the sheets with blood. GMN 4 and 2 were beside her before the others could blink but she wasn't awake. 4 touched her.

"her fever is not reducing"he said

"i don't know man. I just delivered the stuff and the message. They are working on the second" GMN-7 said backing away from the bed. He didn't want to aggreviate the tension in the room by telling them what was happening in the lab. The rest better come from someone who knew more.

The other doctors hooked her up with the machines and continued monitoring her condition. They still wondered how she disconnected them without them noticing.

"her blood pressure is reducing" one of the doctor's said

"monitor her heart rate and brain activity" the head told the doctors. "ask Dr. Andrew if we can give her fluids"

"I told you. They are trying their best." GMN-7 said as GMN-4 made efforts to relax but couldn't fully relax.

"7 does this drive belong to you?" GMN-9 said, raising a flash drive up.

"no but I think 3 drop it beside the others things he brought" GMN-7 said

"what's in it?" GMN-5 asked

"i have no idea"

"can we at least focus!" GMN-2 shouted. He was getting pissed that they were being side tracked.

"calm down. They can't do anything for her" they were surprised when they heard 4 say this. Was his sanity returning? The guy had been like an aggressive bear since they returned. "find out what's in the drive, maybe it could help" he had finally realized he needed to take charge.

"can someone tell me what is happening!?" Williams yelled from a corner. He had been quietly observing everything but couldn't make out anything. He just couldn't understand what was going on.

The head doctor approached 2 and 4 who were beside 1.

"i think you better seat down. We need space to monitor her. Her condition is stabilizing and hopefully what they are working on will help her more. You need to calm down and find something that can actually help or just rest. You all look deadbeat" the head doctor said

"we are not leaving her" GMN-2 said

"feel free to stay in the room but not here" the head doctor said looking at 4. After a while 4 nodded and the two of them made way for them to do their job.

"could one of you kindly tell me what happened" Williams said and GMN-6 turned to face him and walked towards him. She bent drew a chair and sat down infront of him.

"explain your relationship" GMN-6 said

"I've already told you all, she's my sister. Now tell me what happened to her" Williams said

"how can a sister not recognise her own brother?" GMN-5 asked

"do you remember your life before all this?" Williams asked gesturing around with both hands. When their was no response he said "my point exactly"

"you don't really look alike. Are you really sure you are related by blood?" GMN-5 asked again. Williams gave a fustruated sigh

"why am I the one answering questions! Tell me what happened to my sister or I'm not telling you anything!" Williams said angrily. GMN-6 dragged her chair closer to Williams who leaned back in his wheelchair.

"My girl there has gone through alot today on account of family so I'm not feeling very charitable especially to people who claim to be related to her. The way I see it, answering our questions can help you keep that head on your neck" GMN-6 said seriously. Williams looked from one to the other. He knew something was really wrong so he decided to comply in hopes they would get around to what happened. He could see some of them were giving him divided attention and they looked serious and exhausted.

"She's my half sister. We share the same father Dr. Andrew Stone" Williams said

"i thought so!" GMN-5 exclaimed and when they fixed her with their stare she said "do go on"

"what do you mean she went through a lot on account of family?" Williams asked

"do you know her mother?" GMN-2 asked

"how come she didn't recognise you?" GMN-4 asked. He knew that whenever GMN-1 came across certain things or people she felt a tinge of familarity she couldn't explain which drew his memory to something. "9 remember the car we passed on the way, see if you can get anything on the driver" GMN-9 nodded and turned to his computer.

"Anabelle Stone, she has so many accolades as a doctor and as a b*tch and Rosetta didn't know about me. They kept me a secret from her but I knew about her" Williams replied

"you stalked her!" GMN-4 said at the same time GMN-2 asked

"why?"

"her mother is …" Williams said squeezing his face and fist briefly "a very difficult person and although I wouldn't call it stalking, it was the only way to get close to her"

"difficult wouldn't be the word I would use to describe her" GMN-5 said

"you know her? How?" Williams was surprised

"who the hell did you think did this!?" GMN-6 said angrily gesturing towards 1. Williams looked from her to where she was gesturing and back.

"what!!!???" Williams could only manage to say. He was so surprise and speechless. "it's impossible!!"

GMN-6 grabbed him by his collar. "does that look like an illusion to you or a joke!? my bestfriend is lying on that bed fighting and you say it's impossible!"

"6 easy. He's still recovering" GMN-7 said standing behind her. He could see the barely controlled rage lurking behind her eyes.

The pain Williams felt was blinding but the shock seemed to numb them a little. He shook his head in a negative way.

"you don't understand! She's dead!"
