Chapter 22

Sportacus felt a surge of anger boiling up as he traveled to The Loop. He was a very patient person, but what happened to Gemma just yanked his chain. He had been thinking about what to do in order for these people to leave her alone; Sportacus would give himself up and tell them who he was.

He sent Stefan a text telling him how much he appreciated his friendship and to make sure Gemma returned home safely when he could.

"You will not do what I think you're going to do?" Stefan asked, calling his friend on the phone. "There has to be another way. You can't give them your identity."

"I can't think of any other way," Sportacus said. "Gemma nearly drowned because she withheld the information people needed to expose me and who I am. Maybe they'll leave her alone if they got what they wanted without even having to open the file."

Stefan sighed. "Please don't do this, Magnus."

"I honestly can't think of another way," Sportacus said. "I care about Gemma deeply and I don't want to see her hurt on my account."

"She knew what she was getting into when she found out the truth," Stefan said. "Gemma knows the dangers behind knowing who you are. Even I do, but you kept me around, anyway." Stefan chuckled.

"I can't stop you from giving yourself up, Magnus," Stefan added. "I just want you to think of other ways."

"I know what I'm doing," Sportacus said with a heavy sigh. "Trust me."

"Always," Stefan said, then hung up.

Sportacus had thought about this heavily. If his planned worked, everything would be alright. He hoped.

Gemma was still pacing back and forth in the bedroom. She stared at the number with Stefan's name attached to it. She wasn't sure if he might know what Sportacus was thinking, but something inside her said it wasn't good.

"I can't just sit here and do anything," she said out loud. "There has to be a way for me to get to The Loop."

Gemma searched the house for the keys to a car she had seen in the garage. Eventually, she found the right keys in the kitchen hanging on the wall by the back door.

"I hope I'm not too late," she said, sliding into the driver's seat and pushing a button on the ceiling of the car that made the garage door open.

Sportacus stood there in Kim's office, his hands tied behind him and two large men on either side to make sure he wouldn't try anything. He held a smirk on his face and this seem to upset Kim.

"I knew putting Gemma in danger would make you show yourself," Kim said, sitting on the edge of her desk. "She seems to be very fond of you and a man named Magnus. Who I believe you are."

"What will you gain in finding out who I am?" Sportacus asked.

Kim gave him a glare and played with something on her desk. "Closure."

Sportacus titled his head in confusion and Kim laughed softly. She walked to him and just stood there, staring at him coldly.

"Magnus Scheving had worked with my brother three years ago," Kim said, watching his face closely. "His name was Scott."

"And what does this have to do with me?" Sportacus asked, not making any sign that he knew who she was talking about.

"Well, there was a time when my brother was working Magnus' scene at his studio and Scott needed help," Kim told her story. "Sportacus, I know you have a crystal that dazzles when there is danger. My brother ended up falling to his death, and you did nothing."

Sportacus' eyes grew wide in shock. And Kim gave him a smirk.

"I knew you knew who I was talking about. You were there, Sportacus, and yet you did nothing. You let him die." Kim pointed a finger at him. "And I know you are Magnus Scheving."

"What makes you sure?" he asked.

"Let's just say no one has ever seen Batman and Bruce Wayne in the same room," Kim said, taking a seat behind her desk. "My brother suspected you as Magnus when he went to work for him, I mean you, at the studio. He had moved to Iceland to get away from the crappy life he had here. He loved his job. Every day, he would call and tell me what he had done. Scott even looked up to you, Magnus. He worshiped the ground you walked on. And you let him die."

"I am sorry for your loss," Sportacus said.

"Don't give me your sympathy," Kim retorted. "Why didn't you save him?"

Sportacus sighed. He wasn't sure how to answer this question. He remembers a man named Scott who had worked for him at the studio. But he knew if he confirmed this, Kim would know one hundred percent that he was Magnus. Although she already suspected it. He was here to get Kim to confess that she had put Gemma in danger on purpose. He had no issue in escaping from his predicament. All he needed to figure out now was how to catch Kim off guard and to admit to everything she's done. Perhaps in order for her to admit it, he would need to confirm who he was.

Kim glared at him coldly with an icy stare. "Admit it, Sportacus. You're Magnus Scheving, the man who could've saved my brother but let him plummet to his death. You could've saved him, but you chose not to."

Sportacus sighed and stepped forwards an inch. "In all honesty, I'm not really sure on how to answer this question you have. Yes, my crystal lights up when someone is in danger. There might have been a chance that I was saving someone else."

"I don't want to hear your excuses!" Kim yelled, pointed her finger at him. "Admit that my brother's life meant nothing to you and admit that you are Magnus Scheving!"

"I'm having a hard time seeing the gain for you if I admit anything at all," Sportacus said. "What difference will it make?"

"I can expose you and ruin your life," Kim said with hatred flaring up in her eyes. "I will take everything you care about away from you. Even your precious Gemma."

"She has nothing to do with any of this," Sportacus said.

Kim scoffed. "Don't play dumb with me, Sportacus. I know she has a thing for you."

Sportacus arched an eyebrow. "And how would you know this?"

"I know love when I see it. I've been in love before," Kim said, looking at her feet. "Unfortunately, he passed away."

Sportacus rolled his eyes. "Can we talk about the part where you put Gemma's life in danger?"

"Which time?" Kim retorted, evil in her eyes. "My favorite part was the car in the water. That was a close call, Sportacus. If only you were that fast at saving my brother."

Sportacus chuckled, a spark in his eyes. "That is all the information I needed from you."

Kim looked at him, confused, as the phone suddenly rang. When she answered, a chilling grin crossed her face, and she laid the phone back down and looked at him. She then pushed a button on her desk.

"Bring her up," Kim said, locking eyes with a confused Sportacus. "Don't hate me but, it appears your little girlfriend was catch sneaking around trying to get in. And we might've ruffled her up a little."

Just then, a large man brought in Gemma. Her face had scares and fresh bruising. Blood was trickling down the left side of her temple. Sportacus tried going to her, but the two men on either side of him held him back.

"Did I say don't hate me? I won't blame you if you do," Kim said.

The man holding on to Gemma threw her down to Sportacus' feet. She laid there motionless.
