A young woman walked through the large gates and up the stairs wearing a uniform that showed she was one of the few women that worked in the army. Taking large strides up the stairs she knocked on the door.
Whilst all this was happening a young girl was struggling with her responsibilities. Having been one of the first business woman in England at this time. Living in the year of 1876 was quite a struggle for females like her that wanted to make a stable life for themselves that did not include getting married.
She was going through another hateful letter as a response to her request in doing business together. People. Why were they so afraid of change? Honestly the girl did not know.
She lost her train of thought when she heard one of her maids come in to inform her she had a guest. This visit was rather... Unexpected. But when she came downstairs she saw something that brought a bright smile to her face here standing before her was none other than her sister, Lillia.
"you came!" she yelled out now happily pulling her sister into her embrace. Chuckling the rather butch woman returned the gesture quite happy to see her little sister.
"Well obviously I did, squirt." Lillia said using that annoying nickname of hers as a way of teasing the other girl, who were known by the name named Violet, like always.
"hey I thought I told you to stop calling me that!" the girl scowled as she said so.
Not fazed by her sister's anger she ruffled the girls hair and walked over to the kitchen. "You have anything to eat? I am starving." the woman truthfully spoke.
After 6 months of eating nothing but moldy, cold porridge you tend to crave actual food a lot of times.
Violet actually did not mind her sister's constant teasing she was just happy that she was back. Even having at times missed the annoying gestures. "yes in fact we do have food. I had the chef make us oatmeal cookies." she said a big smile plastered in her face.
Oatmeal cookies was something special to her and Lillia. As children their parents would always have some made the day before when they hosted a tea party which happened quite often.
Late at night the two would take some for themselves giggling and telling stories to each other as they ate the sweet treats. Not long after their parents would notice that and scolded them. They seemed quite angry.
They were always strict with the two girls until...
"oh thank heavens. I was so bloody hungry there." Lillia spoke grabbing a cookie from the bunch that were layed nearly onto a tray stuffing the whole damn thing in her mouth.
"it seems you not only were hungry but forgot your manners." Violet said scolding her sister. This was not quite uncommon. She was always the one to look after each other after what happened to their parents.
Lillian didn't want to take over the business so the girl took her place. Although the job was quite stressful but at times Violet enjoyed it. She would not give it up for the world.
"I see the business is doing well." the woman spoke crossing her arms a cocky grin present on her face.
"Well I would not say that but it is doing okay." the girl corrected her sister's assumption her smile faltering and being replaced by a frown.
People not only hated her for changing the way of living but she was struggling to make offers with other companies and estate agents all because of her gender. This was quite unfair in her opinion.
"So not that good huh?" the woman asked looking at the girl with sympathy in her eyes. Obviously she would be struggling this twisted world would not accept people like her and they never will. And even with this high struggle she most likely is getting called foul names by others.
Lilia having known her sister all her life knows for a fact that Violet was a sensitive and soft girl. She is not one that can handle the cruelty of others. She as well most definitely is not a fighter. But it was either she fights or she throws her life away marrying and being treated by her husband as a simple play thing.
The woman would prefer that her sister would live this stressful and difficult life other than giving herself over to society. It might be cruel to wish that but that was her true thoughts.
"hey don't worry you will get through this Violet. Do not give up." Lillia encouraged giving her a thumbs up whilst doing so.
"yeah I know." the girl spoke quite coldly offering her sister a heart warming smile she walked off back to her office. The office that she now spent most of her days trying to claw at some opportunity that might improve her wealth. She was about to give up when she picked up a letter from the pile of rejections to her offers that most companies have written on paper. This letter. It was her opportunity. This is all that she needed right now at this moment. "YES!" Violet yelled clutching tightly onto the letter and pumping her fist into the air as some sign of victory.
Hearing her sister yell from upstairs Lillian shook her head a small smile appearing on her face. The girl was still her hopeful self. Maybe a bit less but the woman for a fact knew that her sister would not go down without a fight.
She felt quite proud. Even after living with her parent's constant manipulation and lies Violet still grew up to be this wonderful and successful woman that she this today.
Grabbing the tray Lillian decided to bring the snacks along with her as she took a stroll around the rather large garden. After having joined the army the woman was somewhat of a restless person always needing to have some way of exercise.
Being very different from her sister who just wanted to curl up in bed with a good book. She scoffed at the thought. That little nerd.
